Leap Day 2016

Happy Leap Day, everyone! As I started up the game today, I got Mott’s goodbye letter in the mail. He said his biceps are too big for one town, so he’s taking them on tour.

Mott's goodbye letter.Of course, February 29th doesn’t come by every year. Believe it or not, this is just the 2nd Leap Day to pass by since the release of the game. A message is posted on the bulletin board that points out the relative rarity of this date.

~ Leap Day ~ Today is February 29th, the day that comes but once every four years! Do you feel like you gained a day?Villagers may also mention that it’s Leap Day. For example, Static was wondering why February wasn’t over yet.

Static: I was just wondering why February wasn't over yet, but that explains it.Alli said that she loves Leap Day, even though it’s not really a holiday. She suggested that we should make it a holiday and name it after her. I’m not exactly sure how that would work.

Alli: I love February 29th... It's a day that happens every four years, yet it's not really a holiday.Tutu wanted me to find her some trendy furniture; she says I’m the only one that can get it for her. She said not even the internet can help!

Tutu: Only you can get me my furniture. Even the internet can't help me!But when I tried giving her some furniture I found in the recycle bin, she said it wasn’t trendy enough. Oh well, I guess you’re not getting furniture from me then.

After I went up to Able Sisters to change my path pattern to green bricks, Chow asked me to play a game of hide-and-seek. I had ten minutes to find him, Twiggy, and Static. About 90 seconds into the game, I found Chow hiding behind Tutu’s house.

Static peeks out from behind Able Sisters as I talk to Tutu. And with two minutes left to go in the game, I found Twiggy hiding in the worst spot of all: Behind a sign post! It’s rather comical how animals think they won’t be found there.

Chow: Win you did! I'll give you a mega quazoid!

Mott’s Goodbye

The snow of winter melted on the 25th, and the grass is green once again. Unfortunately, Able Sisters was already closed for the night when I started up my game. So I was unable to change my icy blue brick paths just yet.

Green grass has returned!Mott the lion hasn’t wasted any time in finalizing his moving plans; he was already all packed up and ready to go. So we said our goodbyes. I could have told him I’d miss him…but then I’d be lion.

Mott: Oh, yeah! I just remembered I'm bailing out of this town! It’s Saturday night, so I headed to the Roost to check out some music. I asked K.K. for a sad song, and he played K.K. Western for me. Not exactly what I was expecting.

K.K.: Here's a jam that'll shine the blues clean off your shoes... It's called K.K. Western.I listened in on a conversation between Broccolo and Marina. As he discussed plans for a picnic, Broccolo’s eyes turned yellow! He had yellow eyes! So help me, yellow eyes!

Broccolo: Hey, I've got a great idea! Let's have a picnic!I took a bus out to the city, where it was raining. I found an open passage to the Reset Surveillance Center, so I went inside. Mr. Resetti himself wasn’t there, though: He went off to get a massage, his brother Don told me.

Don: My brother Sonny just went off to get a massage.

Winter’s Colorful Goodbye

Mott told me that he wanted to move out of town, and I didn’t try to stop him. He didn’t know what day he’d be moving, but it’ll be soon.

Mott: I've talked it over with myself, and I decided to move out of town.I overhead a conversation between Static and Chow this evening. Chow was talking about how much he loved coffee cake, and he said he just had some at a restaurant with his niece. Static apparently saw them at the time, but he didn’t know the girl was his niece. He figured Chow must have been blackmailing the girl to have lunch with him! Ha!

Static: That was your niece?! I figured you must be blackmailing that poor girl to have lunch with you!I visited Benedict, and he told me that he recently had a cold, but that he didn’t take any medicine for it. Uh, what? I definitely gave him medicine last time. But he didn’t seem to remember that at all, so he didn’t thank me or give me a gift. Maybe he needed more than one dose, I suppose. But still, there have been times I’ve given animals medicine just once and they still thanked me for it. Hmm.

One of my villagers gave me a hint that the skies would be colorful later on tonight. And sure enough, after 11 p.m., I spotted an aurora up in the sky–along with a nearly full moon.

Northern lights in the sky.
If you look closely, you can spot Benedict peeking into Chow’s door.

Since Benedict was there, I had a chat with him. He seemed to know this was the last time we’d be seeing the northern lights for a while.

Benedict: I don't know when I'll get to see something like this again, so I have to burn it into my brain. The snow will be all gone by tomorrow morning. Bring on spring! I’ll be back with another entry later this week, so I’ll see you then!
