Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog
Hello, and welcome to my Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog! I'm Jeff and here you can follow along with my adventures in the game. Unlike other Animal Crossing games, Happy Home Designer does not run in real-time. So each blog entry will usually cover several "game days." If you'd like, you can start from the beginning or just jump right in!

Day 7

Isabelle was already in the office when I arrived today, and we quickly headed over to the school for the grand opening ceremony.

It played out much like the ceremonies in Animal Crossing: New Leaf when you build a new public works project. Isabelle says a few words, then you are given the chance to say something (Congrats, everyone!), and then everyone pops some party poppers. It's a nice touch, but there's not much to it.

Isabelle then offered me a tour of the school. Apparently Muffy is a teacher!

Isabelle told me that as town develops, there will be more people enrolling in school. It sounds like I'll be expanding the school again later on. A new button on the touch screen lets me change the roles of the villagers in a public facility. I decided to make Ribbot the teacher.

For reasons unknown, Mr. Ribbot started sweeping the floor. Maybe this is janitorial school?

You can also add characters using amiibo cards, although sometimes the character won't take the role. For example, I was unable to add Luna to the classroom.

When I went back to the office, Carrie the kangaroo came in. She said she wanted to buy a plot of land that was advertised out front. She wanted a house that had playground equipment in the yard for her future joeys. Lottie told me we needed to make a land proposal, and she handed me a map.

I was able to choose virtually any spot on the map! That included locations on the beach, in the forest, near a river or waterfall, in the mountains, or in a desert. I chose an area up on a cliff above a forest. For the first time, I'm designing the exterior of the house and the yard (in addition to the interior). These jobs are becoming increasingly more complex. I am able to put furniture outdoors, and I can also choose to put in trees, bushes, and flowers! You can even put rugs outdoors. I put in a swing, a sandbox, some other toys, a tulip topiary, and a number of orange tulips.

Indoors, I chose a playroom wall and a panel carpet floor with a medium playroom rug. This will be a nursery of sorts, so I tried to add a number of items appropriate for a child. That includes a teddy bear, a potty, and a music player for lullabies.

Once I was all done, I learned the sighing emotion. Probably because that was a lot of work! Doing both the indoors and outdoors made it seem like a bigger project than even the school!

Day 8

Today, Lottie informed me that her uncle Lyle has invented a telephone. But not just any telephone, one that can use amiibo cards to contact new clients directly. I must say, the music playing while Lyle explains the amiibo phone is utterly horrendous.

Lottie also told me that I can now take on remodeling or new house requests from previous clients. Since Luna is the only amiibo card I have, I gave her a call.

She came down to the office and we started discussing her house.

I picked a plot up in the mountains for her. She didn't have a theme for me to work with; she said she was leaving it up to me! I'm able to select the house shape, as well as things like roof color, door, and fence. I made her house look a bit like the Dream Suite.

On the inside, I used a black square rug and a sleek wall. Luna surely loves sleeping and dreaming, so I'm trying to make it a comfortable room for getting a nice rest. A large rococo bed is a must; I also added in a comfy chaise lounge. An aroma pot and perfurm bottles make for nice accessories to put on a table. A zen cushion on the floor provides a nice place to sit while meditating perhaps.

When I was done, Luna taught me the distress emotion. When I returned to the office, Lottie told me that Tom Nook called and he wants to see me in the morning. We'll see what that's all about next time.

Maybe I just wasn't in a designing mood today, but the game is starting to feel a bit tedious already. It's disappointing that there's no reward for doing a really good job. So there is a temptation to just throw a room together quickly just to get it done with, at least when a certain theme (or lack of theme) leaves you without any inspiration. Or maybe I just feel this way because I couldn't find enough suitable items that fit in with my idea of Luna's house. Hopefully I'll be more into the designing spirit when I continue next time.
