Catching a Coelacanth

It was raining in town, and I was okay with that. But the rain seemed to put Hopper in a poetic mood.

Hopper: Rain tonight... Rain rain rain. My soul! It cries the tears of a million storms!

Static was still sick, so I gave him some medicine once again. He seemed very grateful and full of snot.

Static: Thanks for bein' there, J-rock.Big Top asked me what he should have for his after-dinner beverage. Before I could answer, he said RAIN…in his ears! Ew! Never drink rain water out of your own ears! Or anyone else’s ears, for that matter.

Big Top: What should I have for my after-dinner beverage tonight? RAIN, in my ears! When I visited Rhonda, I saw that she was all packed up and ready to move out of town! I’m not a big fan of Rhonda or anything, but I didn’t want her to leave this early. It’s only been a month. I haven’t had a chance to bug her much yet.

Rhonda: Maybe I should stay after all... bigfoot.I spotted Dr. Shrunk in town, and he offered to teach me a new emotion. I chose sorrow.

Shrunk: Particularly when I think about...all the bugs his open mouth must've caught.I took advantage of the rain by fishing for a coelacanth. And eventually, I actually caught one!

Message after catching a coelacanth: Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! I caught a living fossil! After donating it to the museum, I continued fishing and bug-catching. I didn’t catch another coelacanth, but I did catch some other valuable fish and bugs. I was finding a lot of atlas beetles in particular.

When I was done, I took the money from my catches up to town hall. I made my largest mortgage payment yet, an even 100,000 bells.

Making a 100,000 bell mortgage payment at town hall in Animal Crossing: Wild World (ACWW).

Kiki, Baabara Impressions

Static was still sick with a cold tonight, so I gave him some medicine once again.

Static flips as he takes some medicine in Animal Crossing: Wild World.Crazy Redd was in town again, but he wasn’t of much help to me. That’s because he had the same art (the lovely painting) that he had last week! Since I already have the real one in the museum, I had no need for this one.

Redd: You like it? You like that lovely painting? Hee hee hee!
Hee hee hee yourself.

Outside of the museum, I listened in on a conversation between Kiki and Baabara. Kiki performed her impression of Baabara…to Baabara! She made fun of how insulting Baabara can be. It was pretty funny.

Kiki, doing her impression of Baabara: "What's up with your hair? It looks like someone left you out in the rain!"But then Baabara wanted to do her impression of Kiki. In her mind, Kiki apparently wants to be a “pretty princess” like Baabara! Ha!

Baabara, doing her impression of Kiki: "Baabara is such a pretty princess! I wish I could be more like her!"Kiki didn’t understand, so Baabara said it was her impression of the “inner” Kiki.

Baabara, doing her impression of Kiki: "Oh, no! What if Baabara sees me wearing these old rags! She's so fashionable!"Baabara: It's OK. I understand. How could you NOT want to be me? I mean, look at me!This angered Kiki, and she stormed off, ending the conversation.

Kiki: Every conversation we have ends up with you making fun of my clothes! After making a 40,000 bell mortgage payment, I headed down to the beach for some fishing and bug-catching. I managed to find one new bug, the giant beetle.

Whoa! I caught a giant beetle!

After donating it to the museum, I wrapped up my game for the night.

A Shark, Rainy Night

Big Top had his belongings all packed up in boxes tonight. He was planning on moving out of town, but I made him reconsider.

Big Top: Wow. I wasn't expecting that response... Maybe I'll think it over once more.Static was sick with a cold, so I gave him some medicine. He said I was so nice to him that he regrets calling me names. 😛

Static: You're so good to me. I shouldn't have called you all those names.
And yet we both know you’re gonna do it again.

It was raining in town, so that limited some of the bugs that appear. But I was still finding some good ones, and one new one: a dynastid beetle. When I went to the museum to donate it, I saw that Blathers had more dialogue once again. Wow, Wild World really does so much for character development and back stories for the non-playable characters (NPCs).

Back when Blathers was at university, he was asked by his professor to help out one day. He had to hand out exams and check for cheaters. But the room got a bit hot, so he opened up a window. That was a mistake, because a fly flew into the room!

Blathers: Hoo, what a tragic error! A single fly flew into the exam room... Vile thing.

Due to his fear of bugs, he couldn’t take his eyes off the fly. He kept grinding his beak, and that eventually gave him a cramp in his face muscles. Poor guy.

Blathers: But the constant beak grinding had given me a cramp in my face muscles...Once I had spoken with all of my villagers, I went down to the beach. Going from side to side, I kept an eye out for good fish and bugs. I caught a number of good ones, and when I was done, I was able to make a whopping 65,000 bell payment on my mortgage at town hall.

I returned to the beach to catch a few more bugs and fish, and there I caught a shark! Even though I’ve caught a hammerhead before, this was my first regular shark.

I caught a shark! It was a shark attack! After donating it to the museum, I ended my game for the night. I’d have to say it was a pretty good night. A new bug, a new shark, a large mortgage payment, and I saved Big Top. Now I’m going to go play some Splatoon 2. 🙂
