Disney Magical World Blog

Nintendo has provided me with an advance copy of Disney Magical World, which comes out on April 11th for Nintendo 3DS. It has some gameplay similarities to Animal Crossing, while also featuring over 60 Disney characters. I'll be writing about the game and providing regular updates as I progress through the game. Please share this blog with other Disney fans or anyone else who may be interested.

Day 3: The Cafe Opens for Business

I headed into the castle to open the treasure chest, and it contained the deed to the cafe! The king confirmed that I am now the owner of the cafe!

How soon can I eat?
I quickly ran over to the cafe and talked with the manager. I was able to choose a name for the cafe, which had to be eight characters or less. I decided to name it "Roost," after the coffee shop in Animal Crossing. The manager cafe me a cafe uniform, but he said I'm not required to wear it since I'm the owner and not an employee. I then received my 11th sticker!

My next task was to decide on a menu for the cafe. Each dish will require food items that you've acquired in town or as rewards from other people. I saw I was able to make pancakes out of wheat fruit (which I already had), so that was a no-brainer! I want those pancakes right now! For a drink, I added a pink happiness smoothie to the menu. It requires a milkberry and a mini apple. No problem! Each dish (somehow) makes 50 servings, so each time a dish is sold, I'll make some money. Good deal.

The chancellor stopped by to become the cafe's first customer. He had a smoothie and he really enjoyed it. Huge success!

Thanks! The food is good too.
Word about the cafe had spread, and soon Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto met me outside. I told them I was the new owner, and then a flying camera named Cameron came by to take a picture of us all. This will happen automatically at certain points in the game (much like in Earthbound or Harvest Moon 64).

Cheese!
It saved the photo, but it can only be viewed within the game itself; you can't take out your SD card and access the picture. That's quite disappointing. But getting my first picture taken earned me my 12th sticker. The cafe was then officially open for business, and customers began entering and eating. Based on requests, I added some cookies to the menu.

I turned the game off for a little bit, and when I returned, everything was sold out! These people must have been starving! After making a new batch of food and drinks, the manager suggested putting in some new Hawaiian furniture. Furniture can be bought from McDuck's or made from Chip and Dale's workshop. But as soon as I left the cafe, I got a flying letter from Yen Sid: He's a magician that lives in the tower west of the castle. He summoned me, so I went up to meet him.

Uh...you're a good wizard, right?
He told me was looking for a magic-user to drive away ghosts. But I'm just a cafe owner! He gave me a magic wand and told me to go to Cinderella's world. He opened the gate for me, and I earned another sticker. I soon arrived in Cinderella's village. One of the women there asked me to dance with her. So a dancing mini-game launched! Using the touch screen, you have to touch stars (or slide them, etc.) at the appropriate times. It's a bit like Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.

Sorry if I stepped on your feet.
After speaking to everyone in the plaza there, I went to the forest. The quest mode then began, which is like a small action stage. Using A to shoot from my wand (and Y for a stronger attack), I had to defeat ghosts and recover a box for one of the villagers.

Who you gonna call?
I cleared the stage, but I was told I can re-enter the quest mode for a tougher challenge and better rewards. I returned the box to the guy who asked me to retrieve it, and he gave me a recipe for a royal outfit. He said I should wear this outfit the next time I go into a quest, and it will increase my health points. And with that, I earned my 15th sticker and I then ended my game for the day. There's only one more sticker to go before I'm out of the prologue section, so I'm expecting the game to open up more after that.

By the way, I've found out that Disney Magical World will indeed have a Miiverse community, once the game has been released. I'll see you all next time!
