Day 4, Part 2 – Fishing for a Bigger House

I started up the game again tonight, determined to earn enough money for that next house expansion. So I did some fishing…and as I fished, I caught two cans. Interestingly, Reese at the Re-Tail store actually charges you money (80 bells) to dispose of cans! You’re charging me to recycle? I think you have this a bit backwards, Reese.

Reese: Oh, an empty can? I can't buy this item, so you'll have to pay a disposal fee to dump it...So I just hung on to my cans for now and continued fishing. I saw Yuka also fishing…but not catching anything.

Yuka fishing.I caught a red snapper in the ocean, so that helped a lot. And with five minutes (and five bells) to spare before Nook closed up shop, I made my payment.

All loans on this account have been paid in full.So I went in to see Nook and he confirmed the payment.

Tom Nook: Yes, yes, I have to say I do feel a slightly larger home would suit you much better, hm?I’ll now owe him 98,000 bells, but my house will be expanded again by tomorrow morning.

Tom Nook: The work will be fully completed by tomorrow morning. I'm so sure you must be very excited, yes, yes! That’s kind of crazy that my house only lasted this size for one day. But the generous money rocks make it easy to make money in New Leaf.

Day 4 – I Got My House!

I started up the game today by coming out of my house. Wait, how is that possible? Apparently Nook built the house around me as I slept. At any rate, I’m glad I’m not homeless any more.

My brand new house!I had a letter from my Mom in my mailbox; she sent me a modern wood sofa. As I went inside to check out my house, Isabelle barged in. She said she had some wallpaper to give me as a housewarming gift. That was nice of her. Unfortunately, my pockets were full, so she said she’ll mail it to me instead. That situation makes so little sense when you imagine it happening in real life.

Isabelle: That reminds me! I brought over some wallpaper to celebrate your new home!I still put my sofa and kart down to see how they looked. The kart has a parasail, like the karts from Mario Kart 7.

The sleeping blue alpaca, Cyrus.I then headed over to Nook Homes on Main Street. He told me I owe him 39,800 bells now. Considering how generous the money rocks are in this game, that shouldn’t take me long. He also told me that I’m required to sign up for the Happy Room Academy inspections. He said they will come over to my house and inspect my house…and my hygiene?! That sounds really invasive. What are they going to do? Inspect my teeth and sniff my armpits?

Tom Nook: The inspection is a comprehensive look at your room and furniture layout, your hygiene level, et cetera.
“Please turn to look at that filthy wall…and cough.”

I then went to Nookling Junction. Oooh, a bug net! I had to buy that. And every fancy house simply must have a steamroller, so I bought that too.

A bug net and steamroller on sale in Nookling Junction.I then bought my fortune cookie with two Play Coins. At first, he told me it wasn’t a winner…

Tommy: Awwww... I'm sorry to say, but Number 16 is not a winner...But he was faking me out. He said as a consolation prize, I get…a steamroller. WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I just spent 4,000 bells on a steamroller! UGH!

Tommy: Please accept this item, a steamroller, as a consolation prize! So close!I guess the moral of the story is to buy your fortune cookie before you buy anything else. But still, what are the odds?

Anyway, I went outside to try out my bug net. My first bug was a yellow butterfly.

I caught a yellow butterfly! Now to catch a toastfly!I caught five bugs in total. While walking around, I saw a construction site. It looks like Fuchsia is going to be moving in tomorrow. A quick web search reveals that Fuchsia is a pink deer. Well, at least she’s not Jambette or Elise.

Isabelle told me to sell things at Re-Tail to improve my rating. Of course, I have been selling things at Re-Tail. Perhaps a certain monetary amount must be reached.

Isabelle: Well, you already own a house, and according to a recent survey, your approval rating is 65 percent.I then did a little fishing. I saw a balloon present floating by in the distance.

Fishing in the ocean as a balloon present floats by in the distance. After I was done there, I headed to the museum to donate my catches and have some fossils identified. And then I noticed something. You can have Blathers identify multiple fossils at once! Likewise, you can donate multiple items at once too! Wow! This is seriously a huge improvement, since previous Animal Crossing games made you do these tasks one painstaking item at a time.

Blathers: Hoo hoot! Oh, several things, I see!I was about done playing, but I made one last stop at home. I put my steamroller (well, one of them) in the middle of my house. So fancy, right? The HRA is going to love me now. Well, assuming I keep my ears clean.
