Keep Forest Beautiful

Festivale left my town a mess after yesterday. Not only because of my duplicate Pave items and feathers, but also from the modified modern wood furniture I moved out to take that picture of the Pave set. You can see a small part of the clutter in this first picture. Big Top tried to tell me he was leaving town on March 8th, but I made him stay.

Big Top: It's settled. I'll stay put here in Forest. I guess we'll still be neighbors after all!Mayor Julianne of Fayette submitted a bunch of new QR codes, which I added to the site today. It includes a Hamtaro shirt, a Hufflepuff robe, a Gilligan’s Island shirt and dress, and a bunch of Doctor Who stuff, including this jacket. Check them all out on theย QR Codes page.

Wearing a Dr. Who jacket.I missed a planned meeting with Agent S, and she was so mad at me! I didn’t know she could even get this angry!

Agent S: I showed up at the correct time, but apparently you were just too busy! Where were you, anyway?Probably chowing down on some succotash, right? That is SO like you! Hmph! Whatever! This probably set back my chances of getting her picture by a couple months, haha. Anyway, I talked to Big Top, and he told me he had a dream of Liz from Pickle.

Big Top: So the other night, Liz from Pickle showed up in my dream! And even though I didn’t get a picture of what he said next, he said she was a real green thumb. Yeah, I could see how a pickle might look like a green thumb!

I made a quick trade with Max, and I like his green path!

Max's green path. After I was done with my daily tasks, I decided to do something mayoral. I went into town hall…and I did it. I officially changed Forest from a night owl town into a beautiful town.

Isabelle: OH! So you want to sign the Keep Forest Beautiful ordinance into law?
Do I look like a responsible mayor or what? ๐Ÿ˜€

It will go into effect tomorrow morning, although I’ll apparently still have wilted flowers tomorrow (that’s how it worked for Jessica).

Up at the Dream Suite, Luna told me my most recent dream visitor was T. Zelda from Hyrule. After finishing my shopping run, I returned to town and Nan asked me for an olive flounder. I caught one for her, and she seemed surprised at how healthy and energetic it was. What an odd thing to say.

Nan: Oh! Thank you! Look at how healthy and energetic it is!She rewarded me with a noodle tee. Delicious.ย I then went in my house, determined to put my modern wood furniture back inside. But Rolf had other ideas.

Rolf: Heh heh. I figured you wouldn't be real busy or anything! And later on, Heather from Caelum came over to catalog some of my leftover Pave items.

Heather from Caelum has just arrived in Forest.Heather catalogs my leftover Pave items from Festivale.Thank you for reading the blog!

By the way, if you want to see a random Animal Crossing picture I’ve posted, check out this link:ย www.jvgsjeff.com/random. It’ll give you a different picture each time you click it. It’s a pretty cool link, if I do say so myself. ๐Ÿ˜› That’s all for tonight, but I hope to see you again soon!

Festivale

Today is the day of Festivale, and confetti rains from the sky and villagers wear funny hats.

Big Top: When I woke up this morning, the sky was pouring confetti!Among the confetti, you’ll also find feathers floating around. You’ll want to catch them with your net.

I got a white feather! It's so soft and pure! But the star attraction of Festivale is Pave’ the fabulous peacock. He’s a dancing machine.

Pave: How can you stand next to the glory that is Pave and not be gyrating?!The object of Festivale is to collect the colored feathers and take them to Pave’. If you give him three feathers of the color he asks for, he will give you a piece of Pave’ furniture.

Pave: If you bring Pave woohoo feathers, you-hoo get woohoo too-hoo!Besides catching feathers with your net, you can also win them by playing mini-games with your villagers.

Rolf: Ha! Even an old, creaky man like me can shuffle his feet and pop a hip every now and then!As I was searching for feathers, I saw Phineas! He gave me the Refurbishing Expert badge for customizing lots of items at Re-Tail.

I got the Refurbishing Expert badge! I've entered the ranks of the top-class customizers! When I had three feathers for Pave’, I exchanged them for a Pave’ sofa.

Pave: You did good for Pave. Pave thanks you and gives you this Pave sofa!I also found a rainbow feather! It can be exchanged for a piece of Pave’ furniture at any time!

Yippeeeee! I got a rainbow feather! These are extremely rare!I updated my dream town and Luna told me that Bling from Bling was my most recent dream visitor.

Luna: According to the latest feedback, a client named Bling from Bling enjoyed your dream. Some of the animals looked really ridiculous in their Festivale costumes.

Teddy: All right! Things are gradually starting to heat up! Let's daaaance!Tom invited me over to his town, where it was nighttime. Pave’ was all lit up.

Spotlights on Pave.Tom was wearing the Festivale clothing, and he looked like Dame Edna.

Tom wearing Festivale clothing. After I returned home, I saw Phineas again! This time he gave me the Neighborhood Traveler badge for visiting lots of towns! I wouldn’t have taken that picture of my badges yesterday if I knew I’d be getting two more today!

I got the Neighborhood Traveler badge! I love to travel!Villagers will sometimes offer to trade feathers with you. So they may offer you a yellow feather in exchange for a green one, for example. Other times, they’ll ask to play a game with you. If you win, you’ll get a feather from them. But if you lose, they get to take one of your feathers.

Teddy: OK, let's do this! We're going to play...charades!I needed three pieces to complete my set, and fortunately Kim was around to exchange our duplicate pieces so we’d both have the full set. Thanks, Kim! Here’s a look at the full set.

The Pave furniture set.Wendy also came over to visit. She was catching feathers while I was redecorating my house for the picture above. I then helped her out on her search.

If you’re wondering how Festivale compares to the City Folk version, I’m going to tell you. ๐Ÿ˜› I did not like the City Folk version. It used candy instead of feathers, but the object is essentially the same. The biggest difference is the ability to catch feathers randomly flying around town. This is an improvement and it adds to the fun, for sure.

However, the items Pave’ gives are still random, and you will receive many duplicates before completing the set. And you’ll likely end up stockpiling tons of feathers of certain colors, only to have Pave’ repeatedly ask for colors you don’t have. The whole thing is still tedious and extremely time-consuming.

If you’re trying to complete the furniture set, it can easily take hours…or all day, depending on how lucky you get with the items Pave’ gives you. This holiday is still a frustrating, colossal pain in the neck. It remains my least favorite holiday.

Travel Day

I nearly forgot about Joan this morning; it was about 11:56 a.m. when I turned the game on, and I still needed to get money out of the bank. Once I did, I had trouble finding Joan. I found her at 11:59, and the clock struck noon as I was buying my turnips. The good news is that she was selling them for only 90 bells apiece, which is the lowest I’ve seen. I bought 1,100 of them for a total of 99,000 bells.

Joan: So 1,100 turnips comes out to be... 99,000 bells altogether. Do you wanna buy them? After putting them into storage (except for one bundle, which I keep to remind me to check prices), I checked my mail for the day. Teddy and Molly sent me letters, and so did Gulliver. He sent me this conical straw hat from Vietnam.

A conical straw hat.Festivale is tomorrow, and Agent S told me I’ll get to see her amazing dance moves!

Agent S: Tomorrow is Festivale, and I am SOO excited! Just wait until you see my amazing dance moves!Copper told me Phineas was in town, and I had no idea why. But when I tracked him down, he told me I earned a new Expert Angler badge because I’ve caught a lot of fish.

I got the Expert Angler badge! It's proof I've caught a TON of fish!I guess that 45 minutes of fishing for Teddy yesterday wasn’t a total loss after all! Now I feel a bit guilty for drowning him.

Here is an up-to-date look at my badges.

My badge collection as of March 2, 2014.Skye asked me to check out her house, so I reluctantly agreed. But not before dragging her to the pyramid for a picture!

Standing with Skye near the pyramid.Once we got to her home, she was telling me about her wharf roach.

Skye: What do you think of my wharf roach? It's not just a pet!She told me she’s learned a lot from the roach! I was afraid to ask what exactly she’s learned.

Skye: I've already learned a lost from it, awoooooo. After taking a short nap on her bed, I left and headed up to Main Street. Luna told me that Scott from NYC was my most recent dream visitor. And at Able Sisters, I bought a Festivale tank. I’m hoping I don’t need to wear this Festivale clothing, but I’m equipping it on my mannequin for now–just in case.

The Festivale clothing on a mannequin.Tiffiny was looking to go on some island tours, so I joined in. Bre and Kelsi were also there at Tiffiny’s town.

Tiffiny, Jeff, Bre, and Kelsi.First, I stopped at her Re-Tail to sell some perfect peaches. I had ten baskets, which I sold for 270,000 bells. After a brief walk around town, we headed off to the island.

The four of us taking the boat to the island. We went on a bug-catching tour, a hide-and-seek tour, and a fishing tour. I did okay at the hide-and-seek one (finding two of the four villagers–and a tree!), but I did very bad at the fishing and bug-catching ones. But it was still fun and we all earned some medals.

Celebrating an island tour success. After that, I returned home. I was selling an item to Melly, so I headed to her town Rotledge. I didn’t see much of her town, but I definitely liked what I saw. She had patterns of a river (or brook or stream or creek, I don’t know) and some flower bed patterns too.

Melly's town of Rotledge. She also has flowers lining the river. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have a dream address to visit, but her town looks great from what I saw.

The town of Rotledge.Later on, Wendy asked if she could sell some stuff in my town. She also invited me over to her town, where she put down a yellow brick path.

Wendy's yellow brick path. She asked to borrow my gold axe, which she needed to cut down the trees that were in the way of her path. So she cut the trees down and I was the designated digger.

Jeff: Designated digger? At one point, I “accidentally” stood in a blank spot as she was trying to lay the path down. She kept trying, but she ended up putting the tiles down everywhere except where she wanted. I joked that Oakville will have a roundabout.

Wendy has trouble placing a path in a certain spot. After that, I returned home and ended my game for the night.

One other topic I’ve been meaning to mention: I’m considering switching from a night owl town to a beautiful town. The main reason of course is that I wouldn’t have to water my flowers. That would save a lot of time and effort. There are negatives though, of course. Naturally, stores would be closed earlier than I’m used to, which could be very inconvenient for a night owl like me. Also, flowers won’t wilt, which means I can’t create new gold roses. Also, fewer weeds will appear, making the weed badge much harder to get.

Ultimately, I think I will switch between the two ordinances. For summer, which is prime bug season, I’d definitely want those night owl store hours. Night owl would also be good for rainy seasons, where the beautiful ordinance wouldn’t be as helpful (since I wouldn’t need to water every day anyway). But for those dry days of autumn, I’d definitely want the beautiful town ordinance. I haven’t made a switch yet, but I think it’s just a matter of time.
