New Year’s Day

Pete met me outside of my house today and gave me a letter from Nintendo. It contained a new DLC item, which is another Japanese item called a kagamimochi.

Pete: I have an express delivery for you from Nintendo. There was also another DLC item, a sunrise lamp, available at the post office. Here is a picture of both items; the kagamimochi is next to me and the sunrise lamp is on the wall.

January 2014 DLC: The kagamimochi and sunrise lamp.Fortunately, both items can be re-ordered from the catalog. As I made my way around town, I talked to Tabby. She told me that her new year’s resolution was to be more sparkly. I guess she’s turning into a vampire.

Tabby: Happy New Year! Got any resolutions? One of mine is to be more sparkly this year!Rolf asked me for an orange, so I gave him a perfect one. He liked it so much that he almost choked on it.

Rolf: ...Urk! HACK HACK COUGH! I got so excited, I swallowed some the wrong way!He gave me a rubber tree as a reward. Over by the event plaza, Isabelle was standing there once again today. She started talking about horses, and I didn’t understand why at first. But then I realized 2014 is the year of the horse in the Chinese zodiac.

Isabelle: Horses work so hard for us, but they don't really get a special day just for them. She then gave me a zodiac horse to mark New Horse Year’s Day.

The zodiac horse.
Look at my horse. My horse is amazing.

Today was my day to build a snowtyke, so I did. The snowtyke and the snowman seem to be the easiest snowpeople to build, at least for me. He commented on how his mom looks weird, and she immediately grounded him.

Snowtyke: Mom looks a little weird, but other than that we're a great snowfamily! That’s actually a good thing for me though, because it means I should be getting a different item from him in the mail tomorrow. But we’ll see. Here is a picture of the full snowfamily.

The snowfamily in town.Late last night, I was (indirectly) reminded on Tumblr that I could purchase extra hats from Crazy Redd. Not everyone has the same color hats in their towns, so I thought buying a few extras would be a good idea. For now, I put one of each up for sale in my Re-Tail. So any of my Wi-Fi visitors can buy them if they need them.

New Year's hats on sale at Re-Tail.Later on, Wendy and I played on Wi-Fi for the first time in quite a while. First, she visited my town. She sold some fruit and went shopping. I’m starting to buy some items just for the purpose of having them listed in my catalog (even if they can’t be ordered from the catalog). So I bought these cow clothes and Wendy and I both had the same idea.

Jeff and Wendy, in unison: Moo.And we took a picture over at the New Year’s Day face cutout standee. What a couple of firecrackers.

Using the New Year's day face cutout standee.I noticed it was almost 8:00, so we waited a minute or two for the modern clock to come to life. Happy New Hour!

Jeff: Happy new hour!We then headed to Wendy’s town, Oakville. I went to her Re-Tail and sold 54 perfect peaches for 162,000 bells. I talked with Kabuki a few times; I want to steal him, but Wendy won’t let me.

Kabuki: I'm happy I get to start off the new year by seeing your energetic smile, Jeff! Glad you're my friend! After hanging out for a while, I returned home to Forest and ended my game. I hope your New Year’s Day was a good one! I’ll be back with more tomorrow, so please visit again!

New Year’s Eve

Today was New Year’s Eve, so I went over to the event plaza to check everything out. Crazy Redd had a stand where I could buy party poppers, yellow New Year’s hats, and green New Year’s hats. All of his items were 300 bells each.

Wearing a green New Year hat that I bought from Redd. And of course Isabelle was there, next to the big countdown clock. She was handing out sparkling cider.

Isabelle: You can't ring in the new year without sparkling cider, am I right?I took a sip to try it out.

Drinking some sparkling cider. But the big event was still hours away, so I walked around town to do my normal tasks. I spotted Phineas, and he gave me the Villager of Honor badge for playing 500 hours!

I got the Villager of Honor badge! Has it really been THAT long?!I built a snowman and got a new bingo card. I also spoke with the snowtyke, who was on his last legs. So to speak. He asked me not to step on him.

Snowtyke: I'm kinda small, so please try not to step on me!I went up to Main Street for my shopping run, and Luna told me that Jamie from Whimsy was my most recent dream visitor. After I was done, I turned New Leaf off for a while. But after 11 p.m., I started the game up again. When I would talk to villagers now, they would put on their New Year’s hats.

Teddy: Haha! Hats look good, right? And Tabby laid some words of wisdom on me. Well, not really. Just another of her Tabby-isms.

Tabby: We're gonna party like it's the year previous to the current year that it is right now, ice witch!I opened my gate at 11:30 and Patty came over to visit. But we got disconnected soon after. So I changed some router settings and reopened my gate; she came to visit again. She stayed a little bit, but had to go shortly before midnight. Right as she was about to leave, we got disconnected once again.

I reopened again, but nobody else came. I noticed the outdoor villagers started to gather over by the event plaza.

My villagers gathering at the event plaza. The clock counted down the final seconds of 2013. Three, two, one…HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Fireworks go off in the sky, spelling out 2014.The fireworks began and I finished off my cider.

I drink my sparkling cider as fireworks go off in the background. As Isabelle said, LONG LIVE FOREST!

Isabelle: LONG LIVE Forest!Even though I didn’t have any human visitors, I still kept getting disconnected from time to time. And that’s not something that used to happen, so these connection problems are getting really frustrating lately. Eventually, I gave up on opening the gate and just sat on my bench to enjoy the fireworks.

Fireworks spell out 2014 as I sit on my bench.Have a happy new year, everyone! I hope you have a great 2014!

A Tootoid for Club LOL

Kidd approached me, offering his expertise in slinging his noodle around. Uh, no thanks.

Kidd: Unless you want my expertise. I've been known to sling a noodle or two in my day.I dug up a tootoid today (that’s the farting gyroid). I decided to display it in Club LOL, so I headed up to Main Street to make the change.

Swap out this gyroid? While I was in the shopping district, I stopped in the Dream Suite to update my dream. Luna told me that Kacey from Twinkies was my most recent dream visitor. And T&T Emporium was starting to look like Best Buy, with two TVs on display right next to each other.

Two TVs on sale, right next to each other.Back in town, I went looking for snowballs. I was trying to build a snowboy this time…and I did. But it wasn’t a good one.

Snowboy: Ohhhhh! So close! I was almost a perfect snowboy...And my snowtyke was talking about how much he admired child actors.

Snowtyke: I really admire child actors. My face-cutout standee was still displaying my gravestone, which was really out of season. So I decided to make a new one for New Year’s, where your head makes the zero in 2014. I’m not very artistic, so it doesn’t look all that great, but at least it’s not a Halloween decoration. 😛

As I was making one last stop at Re-Tail, I spoke with Skye. She told me she saw a cloud that reminded her of gingerbread. I think she was just hungry.

Skye: Just a moment ago, I saw a cloud that really reminded me of gingerbread.
