Flooded Faron Woods

I hopped into the Groosenator and Groose catapulted me into Faron Woods.

Groose flinging me into Faron Woods. The entire forest was flooded.

Flooded Faron Woods.I went to see the water dragon, and she was creepier than ever. She got all up in my face. Yuck, fish breath.

Water dragon getting up in my face. She saw by my sword that I was the real hero. But she didn’t want to just tell me the part of the song she knew, she made me work for it. She took the music notes (called Tadtones) and threw them all over the flooded woods and I had to go find them all. Not an easy task with these swimming controls I don’t really care for.

Swimming for Tadtones.Once I found a certain number of them, the elder called me over. He then allowed me to dowse for the remaining Tadtones. Collecting all of them still took quite a while, but I did eventually catch ’em all. I returned to the water dragon and she sang the song for me. Oh joy.

The water dragon singing for me.As she emptied the water from the woods, she told me how all this excitement has been rather draining. I then searched out two goddess cubes in Faron Woods that had been eluding me for a while. After that, I saved my game. Next stop, the volcano. Again.

You Again?

Off I went to the thunderhead, where I looked for Levias. And looked. And looked some more. I didn’t see him anywhere. But then I remembered the instructor told me something about a guy at Pumpkin Landing who makes pumpkin soup for Levias. So I headed there.

"This is the best batch of pumpkin soup I've ever created!"The guy there whipped up a huge container of pumpkin soup to take to Levias. Smurf-Fi called in the robot to carry it and I again headed back to the thunderhead. I was told to drop it off on the island with a rainbow above it, so I did. And then, Levias appeared.

Levias appears!I hopped on my bird and took out some obvious targets. I eventually figured out I then had to land on Levias, where I fought the parasite that was inside him and controlling him.

Fighting a large parasite. After I was done, Levias returned to being his usual self. He told me that to find the Triforce, I had to collect each piece of the Song of the Hero. Each of the three dragons had a piece, so I have to revisit them all to get them. Wow, this game has a whole lot of backtracking. Then, I’ll have to return to Levias, who will combine them with the part he knows to reveal the Triforce.

This Song of the Hero quest is where a known glitch can mess up your game save so that you can’t complete the game. Although Nintendo has since issued a patch that fixes the problem, I would rather avoid it. And the easiest way to avoid it is to save the desert portion for last. So I decided to go to Faron Woods first to visit the water dragon at Lake Floria. But I was unable to land anywhere in Faron Woods except for near the Sealed Grounds. And when I did, guess who got free again?

The Impisoned beast, yet again.Unbelievable. I had to fight “The Imprisoned” beast for a third time (and second in two days). This is getting ridiculous. He was harder this time, because every time he fell, I couldn’t get around his body to get to his head. Not until he got nearly up the crater did he fall in such a way that I could get to his head. He then started flying! I had to use Groose’s cannon to shoot him down. For the final blow, Groose had to shoot me on top of his body to drive the spike in. I sealed him away yet again.

Die, already!I went back in the temple. The old woman said she had to close the gates to the woods to keep the land from flooding for some reason. She didn’t know how I could get in…but then Groose came up with the idea of shooting me over the gate into the woods, using his Groosenator. So that is where I’ll pick up next time. I saved my game and quit for the night.

Link to the Past

I went back to Skyloft and did some shopping. I upgraded some of my equipment, bought potions, and just prepared for the next part of my journey. When I was done, I went down to Faron Woods. I didn’t go straight to the Sealed Temple. I did a little bug-catching and exploration for a bit. But then I did go inside the temple and saw Groose there.

Groose at the Sealed Temple. He put up rails around the Sealed Grounds so that a cart could move around the top of the large circular crater-type hole. The old woman then told me it was time to strike the Gate of Time with a Skyward Strike. (Skyward Strike is the official name for what I usually call a charged-up sword attack). But just as I charged up my sword, the ground shook and that large beast I sealed up had broken free once again.

The large beast returns! We ran outside and Groose told me more about his track. It is used to toss bombs at the beast to stun him. He called it the Groosenator. But he said it wasn’t quite ready yet, so I had to go down the crater and fight the beast by myself at first. If you remember, this is the huge enemy with the vulnerable toes. So I got out my toenail clippers sword and started attacking the beast.

He’s more difficult this time, because he shoots out waves of electricity with every step he takes. That makes it hard to get to his little piggies toes. I did the best I could, until the beast started to climb up the crater! Not good. But that’s when Groose told me his weapon was ready. By pressing up on the control pad, I could switch to him and shoot a bomb at the beast.

Groose shoots bombs at the beast.Hitting him with the bomb stunned him, allowing Link to beat up on his toes. When his toes give out, the creature falls backward and Link has to drive the spike on his head back into his head. The whole process had to be repeated a few times, and then I, once again, sealed the beast back into the ground.

Sealing the beast away. Again.I made my way back up to the top and went inside the Sealed Temple. I had to try again to strike the Gate of Time. As I stepped onto the pedestal, a sound effect signaled that Smurf-Fi had an important message for me:

Fi: Master, the batteries in your Wii remote are nearly depleted. My batteries were low. I hate when games have to announce it to you, especially when it interrupts the flow of the game. So I swapped out batteries and continued. I struck the gate and it came to life. This began what is essentially a long cinema/story scene.

The gate comes to life.Walking through the Gate of Time took me far into the past. But Zelda and Impa were there waiting for me. They had a lot of explaining to do.

"I think it's time you learned the whole story."They told me a lot about what was really going on. This included one shocking revelation (wow) that I won’t spoil here and an emotional moment. My Master Sword was upgraded again and is now in its “ultimate form,” whatever that means. I went back through the gate to the present day. To make a long story short, I now need the Triforce. The old woman said it is thought to be hidden in Skyloft, so I had to go back there for clues. Groose said he was going to stay on the surface to protect the old woman and the temple.

In Skyloft, I found out that my best lead was Levias, who was in the thunderhead near the Isle of Songs. But he is apparently possessed by something, and I need a special move for my bird to knock some sense into Levias. But before I can use it, I had to undergo some training. After a couple tries, I passed the test and I’m ready to go see Levias…but that will have to wait until next time. I saved my game and quit for the night.
