Toy Day (Christmas Eve)

It’s Christmas Eve day, better known as Toy Day in the world of Animal Crossing. Even though my villagers have seen me wearing my full Santa suit for a while now and still knew who I was, today they think I’m Santa.

Teddy: Waaaah! Is that really you, Santa? You're a little early, aren't you? I don't think I'm ready for this!Jingle doesn’t appear until 6:00 p.m., so you can’t deliver the presents until he arrives. So I decided to find my snowballs and try to build a snowboy. I built one, but it wasn’t well-balanced. So the little guy is useless to me.

Snowboy: Ohhhhh! So close! I was almost a perfect snowboy...I then went up to Main Street for my shopping run. I found out that Paige from Moontown was my most recent dream visitor. And I saw that Able Sisters and Kicks carry the full Santa suit today. So if you didn’t buy them ahead of time, it’s no problem.

Tabby: I'm having, like, a total brain freeze right now. And NOT the yummy ice-cream kind! After 6:00, Jingle showed up and introduced himself.

Jingle: Happy holidays! I'm Jingle, the black-nosed reindeer! Isn't this the best time of the year, kid?He also listed the things he loves about this time of the year.

Jingle: Snow everywhere, fuzzy hats, and steaming mugs of hot cocoa with mushrooms by the fireplace!Mushrooms? (He meant marshmallows). Since I was dressed up as Santa, he asked me to help him deliver presents. And by “help,” he meant for me to do all the work while he does nothing. So he gave me the Santa bag to carry.

Jingle: That Santa bag is a magical sack filled up with presents for everyone here in town!It contained everyone’s presents; you can check it in your inventory to see which items are inside. Hopefully you took notes of what your villagers wanted for Toy Day, because you definitely need them now.

Big Top, who had asked for orange wallpaper, gets the astro wall.

Big Top: It's Santa! I can't believe it's really you! This is the most amazing day of my life!My list of clues wasn’t complete, however. Apparently each villager can give you two clues–but I only had both clues for Teddy, Big Top, and Kidd. For most of my other villagers, I only had one clue. But that was usually enough. For example, Benedict asked for a doll and the only doll-like item in the bag was a Papa panda.

Benedict: A Papa panda! I'm so happy! How did you know exactly what I was wishing for?Molly asked for plants, and there was only one plant in Santa’s bag. So clearly, she gets the jasmine bonsai. But she had some nerve calling me short! Look who’s talking!

Molly: Santa! It's really you! But you look a little shorter than I pictured...Skye asked for something white, and there was only one white item to give away. So the cream sofa went to her. I think she suspected something though, because she said I reminded her of her friend Jeff.

Skye: You're so kind, Santa! You remind me a little of my friend, Jeff.Using the process of elimination, I also correctly delivered a small spotlight to Aurora, a gelato umbrella to Rolf, a lemon table to Kidd, and a purple tie-dye tee to Teddy.

Things were going well up to that point, but I had a huge problem. And it relates to my dislike of Tabby and Tammy. I don’t talk to them as much, so I only had one clue from Tammy and literally no clue what Tabby wanted. The only thing I knew was that Tammy wanted something green. My last two items? A leaf umbrella and a retro fridge. They’re both green.

There was something else I had written down about Tammy. She mentioned eating something fluffy and sweet on Toy Day. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was a clue or not. So because of that, I had decided to give the retro fridge to Tammy (since a refrigerator relates to food) and the leaf umbrella to Tabby. I went around looking for either of them. I saw Tabby first, and gave her the umbrella…

Tabby: A leaf umbrella? Uh...thanks! Did I ask for one of these? Who cares? I love it anyway!Fail. She was disappointed with the gift, and Tammy was equally disappointed with the retro fridge. I’ve made a huge mistake. I then made the long walk of shame back to Jingle. I told him I was done and he mocked me. Despite the fact that he did nothing to help except hand me a bag.

Jingle: I mean, I probably would have been more careful to give the right gifts to the right people, but oh well.He did give me a festive wreath however, so I put it in my house.

My new festive wreath in my icy main room.I’ve noticed that the holidays in New Leaf seem to be designed with just one player in mind. They’re not well suited to Wi-Fi online gameplay. By contrast, City Folk’s holidays worked better with multiple players. In ACCF, you could all work together to search for Jingle, and then everyone could get furniture from him.

But on the bright side, Christmas Eve on New Leaf can be completed pretty quickly and doesn’t take all night. And it is nice to have something new to do instead of just repeating the old festival all over again.

Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!
