Duck, No Cover

On Wednesday, Leonardo the lion was camping out at the campsite. He wanted to play a game with me, but it involved me buying something from him (potentially at a high price), so I declined the request.

Leonardo, at the campsite: Oh noooo! This is such a fun game to play...

On Thursday, Molly asked me to play a game of hide-and-seek with her. She assured me that she was really good at hiding.

Molly: It might surprise you, but I'm quite good at hiding!

She gave me 15 minutes to find her, Rolf, and Inkwell.

Molly: If you can find all of us within 15 minutes, you win!

But within seconds, I had already found Molly! The starting banner hadn’t even disappeared off-screen yet. And Molly was the one that was so sure she was good at hiding! I guess she quacked under the pressure.

I spotted Molly seconds after the game began.
The duck forgot to cover.

Since I had a lot of time to search, I took my time and stopped to catch an eel over near Lolly’s house. But I spotted something else in the background…Inkwell!

I caught an eel! Things just got REAL! 47.20 in.
Seconds later, I also caught a big orange squid.

And with 11 and a half minutes still on the timer, I found Rolf trying to hide behind the instrument shelter! That was still a quick win, even though I wasn’t rushing. They were just really bad at hiding this time. 😆

Rolf peeks out from behind the instrument shelter.

Molly gave me a kiwi stool as my prize for winning.

Molly: to thank you for playing with us, we're giving you a kiwi stool!

Hornsby approached me and told me that he spent all of his money on a chocolate fountain. Easy to do. 😆

Hornsby: So, uh, cupcake. I spent the last of my pocket money on a chocolate fountain.

He wanted me to buy it for 1,760 bells. I meant to say no, but I guess I clicked the wrong thing and ended up buying it anyway. Oh well.

Yesterday, Hornsby sent me a racer 6 tee in the mail. I decided to put it on, just to wear something different.

Cube wanted me to visit his house, so we had to schedule a time (6 p.m.). I don’t normally agree to these, but I make exceptions when I still need a villager’s photo.

Cube: Yo, Mr. J! This is short notice, but wanna come see my place?

Moments later, Cube asked for a new catchphrase. I told him to say “it froze,” although that choice hasn’t paid off just yet.

I shook a nearby tree, and a bathtub fell out! Oops! I hope it didn’t belong to Agent S or some other squirrel who lived up there. 😛

When 6:00 rolled around, I ran over to Cube’s house.

Cube: Welcome to my home! I hope you like it as much as I do, it froze.

He didn’t give me any gifts, but he did ask if I wanted to buy anything. I ultimately bought his astro CD player for 2,150 bells. After ten minutes of pointless, repetitious chat and standing around, I left.

This morning, Cube sent me a letter talking about my visit yesterday. He sent me a gift, but it was just an hourglass. Clearly he’s mocking me for all the time (the years, really) that I’ve been trying to earn his photo. 😛 ⏳

Jeremiah seemed like he wasn’t fully awake yet. He said the sun was so bright that it felt like lasers were shooting into his brain. Maybe he had a late night of club-hopping. 😛

Jeremiah: Plus, the sun is so bright, it feels like lasers are shooting directly into my brain, hip hop.

Tonight, I made a rare trip up to Club LOL. K.K. Slider was around, so I asked him for a random song. He performed “Only Me” for me, Hamlet, and Hippeux.

(Well actually, Dr. Shrunk was in the back shaking his booty too.) 😆

Irreplaceable Bucket

On Sunday night, the fireworks festival was held. (This happens on every Sunday night in August, of course.) I stopped to enjoy the sights at several spots around town. Even in the low resolution of the 3DS screen, the fireworks are so pretty! 🎆

Over at the event plaza, Isabelle gave me a heart bopper. I promptly put it on and posed for a photo.

I also decided to buy one of Redd’s cookies for 500 bells. After eating it, I found a “sparkle prize” inside.

Redd's Cookie: Congrats! You got a sparkle prize!

I redeemed it for a miniature car. Since it came from a cookie, I guess that makes it a sweet ride. 🏎️

On Monday, Mira asked me for a peach, and I gave her a perfect one. She rewarded me with her photo. (I’ve already had one of those, but she gave me another.)

Mira: Hee hee! Take my treasured Mira's pic!

I also found a lost item on the ground, and I returned it to its owner, Molly. She too gave me her photo! That’s two photos, both from “M” villagers, on the same day!

Molly: Thank you so much! Please take my Molly's pic as a token of my appreciation.

When I played today, Cube told me that he was going to move out on the 20th. That’s just five days away! I asked him to stay, but that was a fairly close call.

Cube: I'm leaving this month on the 20th. Take care, cool guy!

However, I’m starting to wonder if letting him go might be the best way to get his photo. He has been in town for four years now, and his photo continues to elude me. If I’m feeling brave next time he asks, maybe I’ll just let him go and hope he sends the photo with his goodbye letter. But for now, he’s sticking around.

Inkwell told me he’d like to replace his bucket with something else. I agreed to help out; I’ll just add that request to my bucket list. 🪣

Inkwell: I've been thinking about replacing my bucket.

Re-Tail didn’t have anything, since “somebody” filled up the flea market spots with gems. 😆 So I tried giving Inkwell a garden faucet that I bought from Harvey…but Inkwell wouldn’t accept it. He needed something that could be set on something else. So I tried giving him an eel, and that was too big.

Inkwell: Yikes! This is too big...

I went over to T&T Emporium, and Tommy told me about some bargains on the top floor.

Tommy: Today the boutique on the top floor is having a bargain sale!

However, the shop owners have a different view of a “bargain” than I do. 😛

Gracie: It's your lucky day! I happen to be throwing a little sale today, so I can part with this for 240,000 bells!

The middle floor didn’t have any tabletop furniture either. So I decided to try a fortune cookie from the first floor. I was thinking maybe one of those Nintendo items would fit on a table. However, my cookie ticket was not a winner.

Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look any better. (#4)

Tommy gave me an electric guitar as a consolation prize, and it might sound like a decent piece of furniture. But Inkwell wouldn’t accept it either, because it can’t be placed on a table. Oof, this bucket is proving to be rather hard to replace!

So I figured I’d just have to catch a fish, but a small fish. I ended up with a sweetfish, which is definitely small enough. When I went back to Inkwell’s house, he seemed to be getting tired of seeing me!

Inkwell: Hey! Buddy! You planning on moving in or something, in ink?

However, he was (finally) happy with my gift.

Inkwell: Sweetfish training is something I always wanted to try! Haha! This is going to be awesome!

My reward for helping out? That bucket, of course.

Inkwell: Oh! I might as well give you my old bucket as a reward!

Except that I don’t think I need a bucket either! Hmm, what could I replace it with…?
