The Last Boss & Ending

SPOILER WARNING: This blog entry discusses the final boss fights and the ending of the game. If you don’t want the ending to be spoiled, turn back now.

Okay. So I went back to the Sealed Gate and went through the Gate of Time to go back into the past. Ghirahim was at the bottom of the crater with Zelda, casting a spell to revive the demon king. He put up barriers so I couldn’t just jump down to him, so I have to circle around the entire crater. And he released hordes of enemies to keep me busy on the way.

Lots and lots of enemies.Once I reach Ghirahim, he launches Zelda into the air, where she just hovers. He then makes some floating platforms for us to battle on. I have to knock him off each platform.

Fighting Ghirahim on floating platforms.Eventually, we end up back on the ground as we continue to battle. Before long, I defeat him. He actually seemed easier to beat this time than he did in our previous fights…including the first dungeon! But he then informs me that even as we fought, the spell was working its magic (so to speak) and the demon king was being revived. And then a familiar toe foe (The Imprisoned) pops out of the ground and seemingly starts to absorb Zelda’s spirit.

Demise absorbs Zelda's energy.Zelda’s body is flung through the air, but fortunately Groose is there to catch her. The Imprisoned goes through a transformation, turning into Blanka from Street Fighter II Demise.

DemiseHe seems to turn Ghirahim into a sword, effectively killing the demon lord. For a tough guy, Demise sure is nice; he lets me off the hook to come back and fight him later. This gives me a chance to return to Skyloft and refill my bottles before I go back for the final battle. So I did that and returned, ready to fight.

Final battle.Throughout the course of the battle, I only used one heart potion ++ (it contains two doses) and I had defeated Demise. I am shocked at how easy that was. That’s it… no Ganon this time around, even though IGN spoiled that for me long ago…not in a preview, but on their main Wii page! Lame! Anyway, the scene shifts to the Sealed Temple. Impa, Zelda, and Groose are there, thanking Link. Then Smurf-Fi pops up and tells me that her job is done and it’s time to part ways.

Fi says goodbye. She has me seal away the Master Sword (with her inside it, of course), where it (and her) will sleep forever. But right after one goodbye comes another. Impa says we must return to our time (the present) while she stays in the past. Zelda gives her a bracelet to remember her by, and Impa says they will meet again someday. We then go through the gate back to our own time. The Gate of Time disappears and the old woman there reveals a bracelet…the one Zelda gave her thousands of years ago! The old woman is Impa!

It’s a happy reunion as Impa says “See? I told you we’d meet again.” But the happiness doesn’t last; Impa immediately then disappears (apparently dying), leaving only the bracelet behind. So the ending has three sad goodbyes within a few minutes time. The doors of the temple swing open. Sunshine and peace await. The credits roll and that’s about it. One last scene shows that Zelda wishes to live her life on the surface, not up in Skyloft.

With that, I have beaten the game. But I am not done. There are still treasures I want to get and side-stories to complete. So this blog is not over yet! There will be more blog entries (and my review of the game) still to come in the next week or two. I will say this much… After being disappointed by Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword restored my faith in the series. It’s definitely not perfect, but it is a great game. Thank you all for reading my blog, and stay tuned for more.
