Activating the Power Nodes

I continued my progress in the desert. The second power generator I reached had a mini-dungeon like the first one did. I got through it and activated it.

Power generator. While looking for the third one, I found a crack in a wall and bombed it. A path opened up that let to a heart piece.

Bombing a crack in the wall.Searching around for a while, I eventually found the third power node and activated it. Fortunately, this one wasn’t in a mini-dungeon.

Fi: Master Link, all power nodes have been activated.I made my way back to the generator. I just needed to solve a simple puzzle.

Power generator.Once everything was up and running, a large building rose up out of the sand. It’s the Lanayru Mining Facility.

Lanayru Mining FacilityIt appears to be the third dungeon. I was about ready to save my game, but decided to go inside and look around. There was a large room, but the door that led further wouldn’t open and I didn’t see any clear way to progress. I decided I would figure it out next time and saved my game.

The Desert

Venturing into the desert, I came across this little guy. I helped him out and then he rewarded me by upgrading my beetle.

As thanks for saving me, I will upgrade that for you.It now has pincers that be used to pick up and drop items (such as bombs).

Upgraded beetle.I used it to drop some bombs into some basketball-style buckets to proceed. And of course just using the beetle anyway is fun to look around and see things you otherwise couldn’t see. Eventually I met up with my Goron friend at what apparently is the Temple of Time.

Goron: This place is known as the Temple of Time.He saw Zelda and that mysterious woman go inside, but an explosion made the temple inaccessible. So I have to find another way inside. Another little guy I ran into told me that the Lanayru Mining Facility is connected to the Temple of Time underground. I reached the power generator for the machine that opens the gate for the Mining Facility, but I first have to activate three power nodes. I activated one of them, but then I saved and quit my game. I’ll get the others next time.

Power node.

Lanayru Mine

Now with plenty of space in my wallet, I set out on my bird for the islands that have glowing spots marked on my map. One of them contained a silver rupee, which is worth 100 rupees. I went to the other island and I had to use a bomb to blow up rocks that were in the way. A treasure chest was revealed, but there was a problem. It wouldn’t let me open it.  I tried the front and the back and no “open” option appeared. Perhaps I need something else before I can open it.

A treasure chest that couldn't be opened. Also, while flying around, I saw another bird. I’m not sure what that’s all about…if it was just someone else from my town or if it’s something else.

Someone else flying around?Anyway, I proceeded to the new opening in the clouds. It took me down to Lanayru Mine. The area is all dark and dingy. I eventually got to a huge blue gem. I hit it with my sword and big changes occurred.

Lanayru MineEverything turned into a brighter color. Mine carts started hovering above their track. Creatures that had appeared dead or petrified came to life. Smurf-Fi had some news for me:Apparently, a time shift had occurred in this area. When I hit the blue stone, I essentially traveled back in time to when the area was active with mining activity. Quite interesting.

With the help of the now active mine carts, I proceeded through the mine. This area has some new hazards such as quicksand and enemies that shoot out electricity.

ss60I ended up getting stuck quite on one area, all because I forgot a certain move. I went back and forth several times looking for something I missed, and I was about to give up for the night. And right before I did, then it hit me. I had completely forgotten that I could roll (or “bowl”) bombs! So I rolled one over a long quicksand area and a new blue stone appeared that let me get out of the area. Once out of the mine, I was now at Lanayru Desert. I saved my game there.
