Disney Magical World Blog

Nintendo has provided me with an advance copy of Disney Magical World, which comes out on April 11th for Nintendo 3DS. It has some gameplay similarities to Animal Crossing, while also featuring over 60 Disney characters. I'll be writing about the game and providing regular updates as I progress through the game. Please share this blog with other Disney fans or anyone else who may be interested.

Day 5: 100 Acre Wood

Last time, I enabled my SpotPass settings, so I now receive 3DS notifications when someone has visited my cafe. And when I go to Castleton Air Travel, I have the option of welcoming my guest. It shows a hot air balloon landing, and the avatars of people who visited get off the balloon and hang out in my town!

Princess Jennifer has arrived.
I spoke with Goofy, and he told me he had a hole in his trousers, right over his behind! That's too much information, pal. And then he told me not to stare! As if! He asked me for some fabric so he could patch it up. I already had some denim leaves in my pockets, so I handed one over. Completing his request earned me five milkberry seeds.

You couldn't just say you needed fabric?
I then returned to Cinderella's village to tackle the second quest. I was asked to defeat the ghosts that were threatening to interfere with Cinderella's ball. So I entered the forest and start shooting at ghosts.

I ain't afraid of no ghosts.
The path winded around and some pathways were blocked, until I cleared the way by hitting a switch or defeating all of the enemies in the area. I made my way to the boss enemy and defeated it without much trouble. I found many items throughout the quest, including types of wood, cloth, leaves, and flowers. These items will come in handy for the making of furniture and clothing. I also noticed that the summary page of the quests says "fishing hole: no," which seems to indicate that some quests will have their own fishing holes. Interesting.

As the chancellor of Cinderella's village was thanking me, Cinderella herself showed up!

I sure did!
After thanking me for saving the day, I was invited to attend the ball, although I'm not sure when it will take place. For now, another quest opened up. I had to go on another ghost-busting mission in the forest to find a cute marble button for a woman who needed it for a dress. Once I completed the quest, I earned a sticker for clearing three episodes. However, I can't go on the next quest until I've earned 28 stickers, and I only have 20 right now. So with the action part of my day done, it's time to head back to see what other stickers I can earn.

As I entered Castleton again, I saw quite an unusual sight: Winnie the Pooh was flying by, holding a balloon! Where he could be going? And how does a regular helium balloon support his weight? I know Pooh likes the honey. As I headed over near Daisy's tailor shop, I saw him again!

Can't you just let go? You're not that far up...
He asked to be let down, but the balloon continued carrying him through a gate. I followed him through, and I found myself in 100 Acre Wood. A new fishing area was located here, and I caught my fifth type of fish, which earned me my 21st sticker. I soon ran into Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, and Rabbit. Each of them had close encounters with Pooh, but none of them were able to bring him down. By the time I ran into Piglet, Pooh was caught in a tree long enough for me to climb up and get him down.

I was now able to plant seeds in Rabbit's garden. I planted a beginner seed, two milkberry seeds, and a mini tomato seed.

How does your garden grow?
I watered them, and in just a few minutes, I was able to harvest them. That earned me my first gardening sticker. So from now on, I can plant seeds that I find around town or buy at the shop. When harvested, I have food ingredients to use to make dishes at the cafe or to fulfill requests. Very cool. This unlocked some new episodes, including one where I am asked to cultivate some honey for Winnie the Pooh himself. He was starving, so he asked me to hurry.

Same.
I had to plant some special honeyflower seeds, which would attract bees. The bees would then make a special kind of honey, which can be found in trees every half day. The flowers took ten minutes to bloom, and when they did, Pooh found the honey he was after. But eating so much of it made his stomach grow, and he was stuck in the hole in the tree! After pulling him out, I earned a sticker for completing five episodes.

I returned to Castleton and saw that a fortune teller's shop had opened up. I went inside and saw Miss Teri; she deals in sparkles. Yes, sparkles. They literally make your character sparkle. There are different shapes of sparkles to choose from: Prism orbs, blue energy, superstar sparkles, a Mickey aura, and I'm sure others will be unlocked later on. Using sparkles while having a picture taken will make the picture turn out great, she told me. There seems to be some advantage to doing that, but she wanted it to be a surprise for me. You can purchase them with "nice points," which are the thumbs-up or "likes" you get from villagers who like your outfit. For now, I purchased the Mickey one. Acquiring my first sparkle earned me my 24th sticker.

Does this make me a vampire?
At this point, I ended my game for the day. If you haven't seen it yet, here is Nintendo's trailer for the game. (view on Youtube)
