June Bug-Off 2025

On Sunday, Pascal popped up in the rain to talk about yoga poses.

Pascal: Downward-facing dog might be a yoga pose, maaan, but upward-facing otter is a way of life.

Bob sent me this letter on Wednesday, along with a gift. He found it under his bed while looking for candy, and he wondered if it was a piece of toffee…

Hey, boss! I was looking for a piece of candy I dropped under my bed and found this. It's hard as a rock! I'm pretty sure it's not the candy I dropped. Unless it turns out to be a toffee bar...then it is and I want it back. -Toffee-love Bob

But the attached item was actually coprolite. That’s fossilized dino poop! Wow, he’s lucky he didn’t lick it to taste what it was! Yuck! 😆

On Thursday, I dug up the daily glowing spot money, and then a zigzag pattern led me to three of the day’s four fossils! That was four of the five buried items all in one area.

A zigzag pattern led me from the glowing spot to three of the day's fossils!

When I visited Bones, he told me to pick a color. He said he would tell me what food I’m most like. I picked red, and he compared me to a “hababa-ben-erioh” pepper. He’s wrong, of course, but I thought it was cute how he struggled to pronounce habanero. 😛

Bones: Red! That means you're fiery like a hababa-ben-erioh pepper! One taste of you and everybody's jumpin'!

I know some of you have had issues with Joy-Con drift, and I’ve been having issues with Pro Controller drift for a while. I sometimes don’t get the full amount of bells from money rocks, because the controller wants to move my character down. And the problem is getting worse, too. The other day, I walked into Nook’s shop and my character left the store by himself! 😆 It’s annoying, but I don’t want to buy a new Pro Controller when I’ll be getting Switch 2 within the next few months.

Today, the June Bug-Off was held, and I participated in one round. But as I was trying to catch a drone beetle, Static was in my way and I kept talking to him by mistake!

Static: Kiddo, this here's a bug-catchin' contest, not a jaw-flappin' contest. Get back in there and compete!

But despite the setback, I still ended up catching 14 bugs…which was good for 16 points.

I caught a common bluebottle!

I sold my 14 bugs to Flick for 4,110 bells, and then I redeemed ten of my points for a bug wand.

Due to the Bug-Off, there was no K.K. Slider concert tonight. Here are a few other quick notes about the past week:

  • Last Saturday, K.K. performed “Marine Song 2001” for me, Ketchup, Peanut, Agent S, and Bones.
  • Ketchup was sick on Sunday, so I gave her some medicine. In return, she gave me an attus robe.
  • On Tuesday, I helped out Wisp and he gave me a portable record player.
  • On Wednesday, I had a whale of a fishing day; I caught three whale sharks! And also a great white shark, a saw shark, and a coelacanth! 💰💰💰
  • Yesterday, I helped out Gulliver; he sent me a tubeteika in the mail today.

I recently posted my latest New Horizons Moments video. Check it out!

Dino Drivers, Mermaids

On Tuesday, Pascal popped up to ask for a scallop I caught. He then spouted some dizzying logic, wondering why dinosaurs are bad drivers if dinosaurs turned into the oil that powers cars?

Pascal: If dinosaurs turned into oil, and oil is what makes cars go, why are dinosaurs such bad drivers?

Who says they are bad drivers? Is this about Yoshi in Mario Kart? This is not one of Pascal’s better quotes, in my opinion. Unless I’m just missing the joke?

On Wednesday, Wade the penguin was camping at the campsite.

Wade, at the campsite: I've got my tent, jammies, pillow, blankie, and my stuffed best friend, Bugface, for cuddling.

I did not recognize him, because Wade is a villager that I’ve rarely seen before. I might have seen him in a friend’s town on New Leaf, or possibly in a dream town, but those would’ve been many years ago. And it seems that the only time I’ve even mentioned him on this site was when I listed the new and returning villagers in Welcome Amiibo in 2016!

At any rate, he is cute, but I did not ask him to move in.

Yesterday, Peanut asked me to visit her house, and I agreed to stop over. She talked and talked, wanting to know everything about me. It was a bit much.

Peanut: Tell me about your fashion hits AND misses, every piece of music you've EVER heard, secret superpowers...

But I chatted with her repeatedly, I used her workbench, I watched cartoons on her TV, and I played a game of High Card, Low Card with her. I lost. After about five minutes, I left her house. She chased me down in the doorway and gave me a copy of “Forest Life” on my way out. It was kind of cute how it went down.

Today, I listened in on a conversation between June and Peanut. Peanut was talking about fashion, but June didn’t understand a word. Peanut said she was just trying out some small talk, so June gave that a try too. Except she was talking about how she thinks mermaids really exist. 🧜‍♀️

June: Most folks say mermaids are only manatees mistaken for fantastic creatures, but I believe they exist!

If mermaids are real, that makes me wonder where Pascal is getting the mermaid’s clothing that he sometimes gives out! 😮

Later, I listened in on another Peanut conversation. This one was with Louie, and he told her how he’s going to start signing his autographs once his pro surfing career takes off. It included a catchphrase I taught him a while back. 😆

Louie: Never stop flexing, I'm cranky! -Louie

But Peanut liked it so much that she’s going to start using it too! This is what she plans on saying when she becomes a pop star:

Peanut: Stay sparkly, I'm cranky! -Peanut

Silly villagers. 😆 Anyway, here are a few other quick notes about this week:

  • On Tuesday, I shot down a balloon present that contained an old-fashioned alarm clock. I must’ve really clocked that balloon, but the reward was alarmingly good. ⏰
  • Wisp was in town, and he gave me a school desk. He must be really dead-icated to learning.
  • Yesterday, I returned a lost item (a shopping bag) to Bones, and he gave me a cycling shirt to say thanks.
  • I sold 30 bugs to Flick for 156,750 bells.
  • Tonight, I sold seven fish to C.J. for 117,000 bells.

Have a great weekend, everyone! I’ll be back with more next week, including a new episode of New Horizons Moments. Never Stop Crossing!

Peanut’s Birthday

Sunday (June 8th) was Peanut’s birthday, and I certainly didn’t want to miss her first birthday in Forest! I headed over to her party, and I found another cute, short, peppy villager there. No, not Agent S, but Ketchup.

Peanut: Hey, lollipop! Thanks for coming to my birthday party!

I gave her a customized iron garden table that I crafted, and she seemed to love it. (Not that they ever admit to hating a gift.) 😆

Peanut: I'm going to take SUCH good care of this! Lollipop, you are seriously the best at choosing gifts.

On Tuesday, I ran into Pascal in the ocean while diving. He said it’s OK to be scared of stuff like sharks. Me, I just want to catch the sharks for bells. 🦈

Pascal: It's OK to be scared of stuff you think is scary. Like sharks. Sharks scare me, and that's OK.

Bones asked me to play a treasure hunt game, and he gave me six minutes to find the buried item. It took me all of five seconds to find it! Fastest treasure hunt ever! 😆

Digging up the treasure as the starting banner is still on-screen, with 5:55 remaining on the timer.

The treasure was a maxi shirtdress.

I spotted a double rainbow up in the sky, although it was a bit faint.

Looking up at a rainbow in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

On Wednesday, a villager had a new nickname for me. Merengue wants to call me biscuit, in a pie. That’s a lot of food words…in fact, it’s a mouthful!

Merengue: I'm so glad you like it! Looks like I'll be calling you biscuit from now on, in a pie.

Yesterday, my savings balance reached 115 million bells.

Savings Balance: 115,000,000 bells

Leif was in town, and Bob wondered what kind of flowers he had…for an ugly. 😆

Bob: I got a tip from my bug friends that Leif is here! They want me to find out what flowers he's got, for an ugly.

Today, I went over to Harv’s Island to have Katrina tell my fortune. As the camera zoomed in, a bird flew up, nearly at the camera. For a split second, it appeared to have landed on my head. Heads up!

It appears that a very large bird is resting on my head as I speak with Katrina.

Katrina just said that my luck with health will improve. Anyway, here are a few other quick notes about this week:

  • On Monday, Peanut sent me a silk floral-print shirt to thank me for the birthday gift.
  • I sold 12 fish to C.J. on Tuesday, and he paid me 199,500 bells for them.
  • Gullivarrr sent me another pirate outfit on Wednesday.
  • Tonight, K.K. Slider performed “K.K. Adventure” for me and Merengue.

See you all next week!
