July Bug-Off 2025

I was diving in the ocean on Tuesday, looking for Gullivarrr’s phone. When I found a scallop instead, Pascal popped up. I got this screenshot of both special characters in the background, and I like how it turned out. 🙂

Me, as Pascal and Gullivarrr show up in the background: I got a scallop!

The 2nd Bug-Off of the year was held today (Saturday, July 26th). I started up a round, and I caught a rare Queen Alexandra’s birdwing 40 seconds into the competition. Nice!

I caught a Queen Alexandra's birdwing! Gotta keep this up!

I caught 11 bugs (for a total of 13 points), but I felt like I could’ve done better. Mainly because I wasted too much time chasing a darner dragonfly that sent me on a wild goose chase back and forth across the river. 😆 Still, those 11 bugs netted me 10,080 bells.

So I decided to play another round…but I again caught 11 bugs (and scored 13 points). Even though I caught my last bug with 5 seconds on the clock, my net still exploded as time expired. Oof.

The game, as my net fell apart: Bug-Off is over!

I quickly went to shoot down a balloon present that I saw during the timed competition…and then my slingshot blew up too. Oof.

Oh no! It's the end of the line for my trusty slingshot...
Don’t judge me, Bones.

To add insult to injury, the present only contained five pieces of clay. 😛

After crafting some new tools, I went back to Flick. I sold him this batch of 11 bugs for just 4,020 bells this time. But I also redeemed 30 of my 33 points for prizes: a toy centipede, a bug wand, and a toy cockroach.

The Bug-Off was stressing out some of my villagers, especially poor Peanut here.

Peanut: I meditated...but not enough!
You’re doing great, Peanut!

My two “A” named villagers (Agent S and Ankha) were the only two not outside participating in the event. Ankha told me that she thinks wallpaper is back in style, and I wondered if she meant hieroglyphics. 😛

Ankha: Some people might disagree, but I think wallpaper is back in style.

Here are a few other quick notes about this week:

  • On Tuesday, Static was sick with a cold. I gave him some medicine, and he rewarded me with some full-body tights. That’s kind of a personal gift, but me and him are really tight. 😛
  • Gullivarrr sent me a pirate barrel on Wednesday.
  • C.J. was in town Wednesday, and I sold him 21 fish for 352,500 bells. 💰💰💰
  • On Thursday, I sold 32 bugs to Flick for 231,000 bells. 💰💰

Chasing Time Away

On Monday, I went out to Harv’s Island to get my fortune told. Katrina gave me some bad news, saying that my luck with health will diminish.

Katrina: Well, something unfortunate might happen today...

I paid the purification fee of 10,000 bells…not to improve my luck, but to get her lucky item in the mail.

Over at the campsite, I found Muffy the sheep camping in town for the 2nd time. She certainly has a unique look, but I did not ask her to move in.

Muffy: I kinda came out here on a lark, but this place seriously rocks.

I found Pascal while diving, and he wondered what we may be doing to chase time away. Who knows? Maybe we are. 🕰️

Pascal: If time is always running out...are we doing something to chase it away?

On Tuesday, I received my expected letter from Katrina. She sent me another power stone this time. Cool item, but I already had one.

June was thinking about leaving town, but I got her to stay for just one bell! Or at least that’s how her catchphrase made it sound. 😆

June: Honestly, the idea of leaving here was making me sad. I'm glad you convinced me to stay, for 1 bell.

On Thursday, I had another camper in town: Shep the dog! (It was also his 2nd time camping in Forest.)

Shep, at the campsite: Hey, you're a local, right? The name's Shep. Ha HA! That's how I laugh.

Even though I like him a lot, I didn’t ask him to move in. Perhaps I should have at least seen who he would have replaced, but oh well. Maybe another time.

Tonight, K.K. Slider was in town and I asked for a random song. He performed “K.K. Marathon” for me and Bones. It’s not the best song, but at least I got to hang out with my dogs.

K.K. Slider performs for Bones and Jeff.

Here are a few other quick notes about this week:

  • On Sunday, K.K. Slider performed “K.K. Robot Synth” for me and Static.
  • Monday, I gave Agent S some medicine for her cold. She gave me a samurai hakama in return.
  • I helped out Wisp Thursday, and he rewarded me with an analog kitchen scale. Sounds like a fair trade… I helped his lost spirits find eternal peace, and he helped me weigh spaghetti.
  • Today, I returned a lost item to Louie. He thanked me with a camo tee.

Bob’s Cobbler Dream

Wednesday (July 9th) was Static’s birthday. For his gift, I gave him a throwback race-car bed that I purchased at Nook’s Cranny.

Static: A throwback race-car bed? This is one mighty generous gift!

Even though Static attended the birthday of fellow squirrel Agent S last week, Agent S did not return the favor. Instead, Ankha was Static’s other party attendee. And she was giving mixed messages about how much she was enjoying it. 😛

Ankha: I LOVE celebrating birthdays, don't you, I hate it?

On Thursday, Merengue was talking about moving out of town. But of course, I made her change her mind.

Merengue: Honestly, the idea of leaving here was making me sad. I'm glad you convinced me to stay, in a pie.
In a pie, where you belong. 🍰

The summer fishing tournament was held today, and I found three of my villagers all huddled up and fishing in the same spot: Ankha, Bob, and Merengue.

Merengue, Bob, and Ankha fishing together during the tournament.

Maybe they should space out a bit. Bob told me that it was a great day for fishing, because the water was wet and the sky is up. Classic Bob logic. 😆

Bob: It's a great day for fishing! The water is wet and the sky is up! A huh huh huh...

I participated in one run of the tourney, and I caught seven fish in the three-minute time limit, including two red snappers.

Catching a 2nd red snapper during the fishing tournament.

My seven fish earned me a score of nine points, and I sold the fish for a total of 12,375 bells. I then redeemed ten points for a fish print.

Later on, I found a scallop while diving. Pascal popped up to ask for it, and he told me that getting framed sounds like a good thing.

Pascal: Getting framed sounds like it oughta be a good thing. Like they're hangin' your photo up in the hall of fame.

He gave me a pearl for the scallop.

I listened in on a conversation between my purple friends, Static and Bob. Static asked Bob about his future plans for when he grows up. Bob replied that he dreamed of building a house made out of peach cobbler!

Bob: I wanna build a great big house made out of peach cobbler!
Bob the Builder?

Static wasn’t on board.

Static: What kinda cockamamie dream is that? Talkin' to you wears me out...

Here are a few other quick notes about this week:

  • On Sunday, a sick Bob gave me a jinbei after I gave him some medicine.
  • Wisp gave me a purple camo wall after I gathered up his spirits for him.
  • On Tuesday, I sold 13 fish to C.J. for 198,000 bells.
  • Flick was in town Wednesday, and I sold him 17 bugs for 111,000 bells.
  • I helped Gulliver yesterday, and he sent me a veil in the mail.

See you next time!
