Tabby Tourist

Last Monday, June asked me for a new catchphrase to replace “in snow.” I’m a bit tired of winter and snow myself, so I decided to look forward a bit. Her new phrase is “in spring.” Hopefully we’ll get there soon. 😛

June: Thank you so much! I feel like I've discovered a whole new side of myself, in spring.

Because of all the crafting I’ve been doing lately (for the donation box submissions), I’ve also started going to Kapp’n’s islands again to stock up on materials. Believe it or not, weeds are one of the materials I’ve been frequently running out of.

On Tuesday, I ran into another unwanted tourist in Forest: Tabby! She even called herself a gorgeous tourist! Wow.

Tourist: Despite appearances, I'm not an A-list celeb, but a gorgeous tourist by the name of Tabby!

Of course, I just had to pitfall her. She almost dropped her sandwich. 😛

On Thursday, Klaus was camping at the campsite for the 4th time. I keep getting ugly campers and they keep coming back again and again. 😛

Klaus, at the campsite: Ahoy. Klaus is my name, and traveling, making playlists, and dance are my passions three.

On Friday, Pascal popped up after I caught a scallop. He told me he had a nightmare that a scallop was eating him!

Pascal: I had a nightmare once that a scallop was eating me. But when I woke up, I thought about it, and...fair play.

Over the past week, I’ve led three new tourists to the hotel: Bluebear, Anchovy, and the super cute duck, Molly. 😍

Standing with Molly at Leila's desk at the hotel.

I’ve put them all in standard rooms. I know I’ll need to design more rooms at some point, but I’m not in a rush right now.

Yesterday, one of the bonus items at the shop was a pile of cash! I decided to make one to see how much it would sell for. It requires three 99k bags of bells to make it (297,000 bells). I crafted it and took it over to Timmy and Tommy. But even with the double bonus price, it sold for…297,000 bells. So all I did was break even. 😛

Timmy: A pile of cash! I'll give twice the usual amount, so... 297,000 bells. Is that OK?

I suppose it would be a different story if you had the bell boom ordinance. And that would work particularly well now that we can multi-craft items. But in my case, there was no benefit.

Today, Static was sick with a cold. I used his own workbench to craft him some medicine (using materials from my storage). He took the medicine and started to feel better right away. He thanked me and gave me a patchwork tulip hat.

Here are some other quick notes about the past week:

  • I returned a lost item to Kid Cat last Tuesday, and he thanked me with a peacoat.
  • C.J. was in town, and I sold him 32 fish for 251,250 bells.
  • I recovered Wisp’s spirits for him, and he rewarded me with a bathroom sink.
  • I helped out Gulliver on Wednesday, and he sent me an elder mask.
  • Friday, I played a treasure hunt game with Bob. I found the item in time, and I won a pleather trench coat.
  • I returned a lost book to Ankha, and she said I should have some head bandages! 😛
  • Last night, K.K. Slider performed “K.K. Flamenco” for me and Bones.

See you next time!

Take Tourists to the Hotel

Last Monday, I received the other three video game systems I ordered: The Famicom, NES, and Nintendo Switch 2. The Famicom plays Clu Clu Land (which was also in the GameCube version of Animal Crossing), and the NES plays Ice Climber.

Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch 2 does not play a game. When you turn it on, it plays the “Switch” sound effect and displays a red screen with the Switch 2 logo. So even though New Horizons has eight video game systems, there are just six playable games in total.

On Wednesday, a tourist had a thought bubble above his head. It was Clay the hamster, and he was enjoying his visit but didn’t have a place to stay for the night. I had the option to invite him to the hotel, so that’s what I did.

Clay: Hm? the hotel? You mean you're gonna help me find a place to stay?!

Leilani suggested that I put him in a VIP room. I chose the amusement park theme, so Clay got a fun place to play!

The amusement park themed VIP hotel room I designed for Clay in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

But then he said he was going to have the best sleep ever in here. Um…oops. Not only is it likely to be very loud in here, but I didn’t actually give him a bed. 😆

Clay: thank you so much! I just know I'm gonna have the best sleep ever in here, thump.

With that task done, I earned 500 Nook Miles in a new category: “Take Tourists to the Hotel.”

Take Tourists to the Hotel: Sometimes tourists visit the island without booking a room. If you'd be so kind as to take them to our hotel, we'll give you some miles as a thank-you!

I’ll have to do this quite a few more times to complete it, but at least I know what that (formerly) empty space on the Nook Miles page is for.

I later ran into another tourist. It was Rizzo! He has some nerve to show his rat face in Forest again, after I spent a whole year trying to get rid of him! So I grabbed a pitfall seed from storage and buried Rizzo once again. Stay out!

Rizzo struggles while in a pitfall.

Hans was camping at the campsite for the third time, and I still didn’t want him. Strike three, you’re out!

Hans, at the campsite: See you around!

On Thursday, I ran into Pascal after finding a scallop in the sea. He told me some words of wisdom about trash and recycling bins before giving me a pair of pearls.

Pascal: One otter's trash is another otter's recycling. Blue, green... It's so hard to tell those bins apart, maaan.

There was another tourist without a place to stay on Friday. It was Leopold the lion, and I led him to the hotel. But I didn’t want to design another VIP room, so I put him in a standard room instead. But that didn’t stop him from thinking he was getting star treatment.

Leopold: Can you believe this place? Finally, my star power pays off!

I only earned 50 hotel tickets for putting him in a regular room, but I didn’t mind. It still counted as progress towards my next “Take Tourists to the Hotel” goal. 👍

Yesterday, I decided to go ahead and pay for my final storage upgrade. It cost a whopping 1.8 million bells this time! So the total cost of going from 5,000 items to 9,000 items is 3.3 million bells! 😱

As of today, my storage is maxed out, as Tom Nook confirmed for me.

Tom Nook: As I've already mentioned, this is the final home-storage expansion we can offer you.

Here are a few other quick notes about Forest over the past week or so:

  • Last Monday, I sold 25 bugs to Flick for 117,000 bells.
  • I crafted a bunch of DIY items for the donation box, but I eventually hit a bottleneck. They needed items with certain hybrid flowers that I didn’t have, so production halted.
  • I recovered Wisp’s spirits on Thursday, and he rewarded me with a striped maxi dress.
  • Last night, K.K. Slider performed “K.K. Swing” for me, Ankha, Kid Cat, June, and Bob. I like when there are several other animals enjoying the show with me. 🙂
  • Today, Moe was the latest tourist without a place to stay. I put him in a standard room, which ended up being Room 4 (the kiddie room).
