First Major Update Arrives

The very next day after deciding to move out, Marcel was all packed up and ready to go today. In previous Animal Crossing games, villagers still stuck around for about a week (or up to ten days in New Leaf) after deciding to move, so I’m not sure why Nintendo made such a dramatic change in New Horizons. Regardless, I made sure to say goodbye to the moving mime Marcel.

Marcel: I hope the new island as a buncha yummy foods too! I'm gonna put everything I find in my mouth!

Nook’s Cranny had a paper tiger for sale, so I bought it and placed it in front of Claudia’s house. I think I may do something similar for many of my villagers, at least once my catalog of items has grown enough to the point where I have more animal-themed furniture items.

Able Sisters had a jester’s cap for sale, so I decided to use my tailor’s ticket for it. Now I can be Jeff the jester…or Jeffster, for short.

Saharah was in town, and I bought some wallpaper from her for 3,000 bells. She gave me the “kisses wall,” which is just a bunch of lips. I promptly gave the wallpaper a kiss goodbye and sold it to the Nooklings.

Apparently Jambette has a new job, making wallpaper.

Midge taught me the “fearful” reaction, and it seemed fitting considering that a scary creature was walking by, right behind her!

Midge: My point is, don't be Fearful to shake things up if you're scared!

Cat from Outset came over to adopt Marcel…or at least that was the plan. But it turned out Cat had a full town of villagers, so Marcel wouldn’t move to Outset. As of this entry being posted, Cat is still trying to move someone out, so I’ll update this entry later.

Later on, the new update for the game arrived (a day early). After installing the update, I received a letter from the Bank of Nook stating that the interest rate on savings accounts has been reduced. And I didn’t even have a chance to take advantage of the previous rate since I’m still in debt. 😛 Greedy Tom Nook! But as a consolation, he sent a bell-bag rug. Exciting.

There was also a new letter from Nintendo, thanking me for downloading the update. A world map was attached to this letter. Here is a look at both items.

More importantly, Blathers announced that he will now accept works of art for display in the museum. Yay for art! 😛

Blathers: Thus, I am considering adding fine works of art to this fine institution's repertoire.

I also noticed that the infamous “kindess” typo has been fixed.

The previous 'kindess' typo has been corrected to 'kindness.'

Louie asked if I was interested in a treasure hunt, and I said yes. He gave me six minutes to find the buried item, but I found it in just 35 seconds. The gift was some cyber shades, which I put on…for now, at least.

By the way, I have posted my obstacle course video that I recorded yesterday. Enjoy!

Have a great day, and I’ll see you all next time! 🙂

Update: It took all evening, all night, and into the wee hours of the morning 😂, but Cat finally made room for Marcel. So Marcel is on his way to the island of Outset. Good luck in your new town, Marcel!

Tiger Trap

There was no entry yesterday, so here’s a quick recap of what happened.

  • My western bridge was completed.
  • I entered in a code for a Nick Chubb Browns jersey and put it on.
  • I shared my pitfall seed design to the QR Codes & New Horizons Designs page.
  • Gulliver was on the beach, so I collected his communicator parts for him.
  • I shot down a balloon present that contained a whopping 30,000 bells! 😮

Claudia was outside, so I set myself a tiger trap. 😉 Now she’s officially a Forest resident. 😉

After that, I continued work on my obstacle course. Shari, while seemingly lost amongst the pillars, even commented on the work I did.

Shari: Why didn't you tell me you were gonna do road work yesterday?

Today, Gulliver sent me a pagoda in the mail. I was really surprised to see how big it is!

I ended up putting it on my northeast peninsula.

Marcel told me he wanted to move out of town, and I did not stop him. The only bad thing is that he didn’t mention a moving date, so I have no idea when it will happen.

Marcel: Maybe if I went to a new place, I could meet new bugs, eat new snacks, and learn to be real cool. / Good luck out there...

Tom Nook finished the expansion on my house, so I have a room on the right now. At town hall, Tom informed me that I owe him 758,000 bells now. Ouch. On the bright side, he told me I can now order replacement doors for my house.

C.J. was in town today, and I caught three large fish in a row to complete his challenge.

I finished up my obstacle course, and I had a few 2-person groups come over to compete and try it out. Thanks for joining in, Chris, Mega, Logan, Max, Alex, and Benji! I hope you all enjoyed the obstacle course! I plan on posting a video that shows the entire course tomorrow.

Jeff: Ready... set...

For anyone that hasn’t already heard, New Horizons is getting a new update on Thursday. Leif is returning for Nature Day, and bushes/shrubs are returning. But more importantly (well, to me at least), Redd is returning…along with an art gallery at the museum! He’s called Jolly Redd instead of Crazy Redd now, and his boat docks at the private beach on the north coast of our islands.

New Horizons is certainly missing a lot of things from previous games, but it’s good to see Nintendo has begun adding them back in.

See you tomorrow! 🙂

Treasure Hunt

Claudia has officially moved into town today. And I officially do not like her. 😛

Claudia: And who might you be? A pleasure to meet you. I just moved here today myself. Call me Claudia.

She instantly becomes my 2nd-least favorite villager; only Rizzo is worse. Claudia didn’t mention coming from another town, so maybe she was just a random move-in. But if she mentions a previous town she lived in, I’ll be sure to post it in a future entry.

I paid off Lloid, so that my new bridge can be completed by tomorrow. 🙂

Lloid: May I have 1 bell as a donation, friend?

Over by my first bridge, Marcel taught me a new reaction: bashfulness.

I learned the Bashfulness Reaction! Uhuhuhuhuh...

I also inquired at town hall about moving Tia’s house. I wasn’t sure if it could be done when the bridge was unfinished, but it can! Tom Nook just needed 50,000 bells to do it.

Tom Nook: Around here our motto is 'You want it? You fund it!' So let's try this again when you have the money.

We had to check with Tia, but of course, she was fine with it. In fact, a little too fine with it.

Tia: Moving my entire home sounds like it'd be thrilling! I'd love to have you move it, oh banana.

I’m making her move her entire house, just about 20 feet away, and she’s thrilled with it? They’re such pushovers in this game. Why can’t she at least be a bit annoyed by the inconvenience? Let me just say that I’m not a fan of the dialogue in New Horizons. In fact, from what I’ve seen of the game so far, I’d say the dialogue is the worst in the series.

Anyway, I found Midge on the beach, with a thought bubble above her head. She asked if I wanted to play a treasure-hunting game! I sure do!

Midge: How'd you like to play a treasure-hunting game with me right now?

The original GameCube game had treasure hunts, where an animal would bury an item somewhere in town. They would post a message on the bulletin board telling which acre to look for it in. This is a bit different, since the villager doesn’t give any hints…but they do give you a time limit to find it. Midge gave me six minutes, but I only needed about one.

I found treasure!

When I returned it to Midge, she gave me a do-rag as a prize.

Midge: Jeff, your prize is a do-rag!

I later ran into Wisp on the cliff, and I collected his five spirits for him. When I returned them, I asked Wisp for something new.

Wisp: OK! You got it! Something new... Something you don't have yet...

So I was surprised that he, too, gave me a do-rag!

Wisp: Here, have... a do-rag!

Wisp must be a liar, because his “expensive” rewards aren’t expensive (remember my cardboard box?), and his “new” rewards aren’t new.

After that, I began working on my obstacle course for a while. I’m having a lot of fun making it! I got it at least half-way done, but I could only build as far as Tia’s house. (It will apparently be moved by tomorrow morning).

Have a great day, and I’ll see you next time!
