Bright Nights

As I started up the game tonight, I was informed that Bright Nights are underway. Yay! 🙂

Hey, everybody! The Bright Nights are here!I caught a glimpse of lights on Kiki’s house, but I quickly headed over to town hall. This was my first time experiencing Bright Nights, so I wanted to chat with Tortimer to hear what it was all about. I figured he would explain what’s going on.

He asked me if the lights were gorgeous or lame, and I said they were gorgeous. He then asked me which house looked the best.

Tortimer: Then perhaps you could tell me which house looks BEST?

I hadn’t seen a good look at any of them yet, so I wanted to decline the question for now. But there was a problem: I couldn’t exit out; Tortimer forced me to pick someone. So I picked Kiki, figuring I could probably change it later (like you can change your mind during La-Di-Day).

I began my walk around town to look at all the lights. Many of the cedar trees have lights on them (much like on New Year’s Eve), and all of the villagers’ houses are also decorated, whether they were home or not. It’s like Christmas in February! 😛

The lights may be on the front of the house, the fencing around the house, and/or the roof of the house. The lights even made Yuka’s house look nice!

Yuka's house decorated with lights for Bright Nights.Static, who still lives in Forest after a close call last time, was standing near town hall. He was boasting about how great his lights were.

Static: My lights are awesome, huh, unlike you?I checked the bulletin board, and a notice mentioned that the Bright Nights run through next Monday. But another post, the message of the week, was more interesting. It said you only get one first chance…unless you have amnesia. 😛

*Message of the Week* You only get one first chance. Unless you have amnesia! All of the houses looked nice, and it was hard to decide on a winner. Here’s a look at Puddles’ house.

Animated GIF of Puddles' house during Bright Nights. After I circled around town once, I noticed that animals were talking about Kiki’s house. Apparently, the word has spread about my initial decision. Static said he wanted to go check out Kiki’s lights for himself.

Static: I hear they're not too pathetic, unlike you.
Why did I save you from moving?

Ultimately, I decided that Rod’s house was probably the best. I chose it not just because of the house, but also because there was a decorated tree out front. Even though that was just a coincidence.

Rod's house lit up with lights for Bright Nights. A cedar tree out front is also lit up.So I went back to Tortimer, but there was another problem. I was not able to tell him my choice again! Apparently, the answer you give him when you first speak to him is final. That’s an odd decision by Nintendo. He should have said something like “go check out all the lights and then come back to tell me your favorite.”

I guess that message of the week was more applicable than I realized. Oh well. At least now I know what to do next time. Enjoy the win, Kiki.

Tortimer: You don't happen to have a little crush on Kiki, now do you?
Oops. Is it that obvious?

I went inside town hall to make a 30,000 bell mortgage payment, and then I went home for the night.

Bright Nights is pretty cool, and it’s probably my favorite Wild World exclusive event so far. I would love to see them bring the decorated houses to other games in the series, whether it’s for Bright Nights or just during the holiday season.

If you have Wild World, you have until Monday, February 13th to check out Bright Nights for yourself. Just remember not to talk to Tortimer until you’re done seeing all the houses. 😉

Nookington’s Grand Opening

Shortly before 11:00, I started up the game and quickly made my way over to Nook’s shop. There it was: The newly upgraded Nookington’s!

Nookington's department store in Forest.Today was the department store’s grand opening! Tom Nook welcomed me in.

Tom Nook: Welcome! Yes, welcome to the grand opening of Nookington's!Not only is there a second floor full of merchandise, but there’s a new hair salon on the first floor too. This was the first appearance of Shampoodle!

The entrance of the Shampoodle hair salon inside of Nookington's.I didn’t get a haircut today, but I still went inside to take a look and meet Harriet, the stylist. She told me that she’s like a fairy godmother that can make my follicle fantasies come true.

Harriet: Cute, nice, or spicy! We can make any follicle fantasy you have come true, sugar!I may get my hair styled another day, but for now, I just wanted to take a look around Nookington’s. The second floor looked much like it does on GameCube, but it has additional furniture along the south wall, where the GameCube game has clothing.

The second floor of Nookington's in Animal Crossing: Wild World. Before I could decide if I wanted to buy anything or not, the clock struck 11 o’clock, and Timmy and Tommy rudely forced me out.

Tommy: Yes, so would you please help us out and leave? ...leave?As you may know, the original DS version of Animal Crossing: Wild World required that a player from another town had to shop at your store before you could upgrade to Nookington’s. Fortunately, that requirement has been removed from the Virtual Console version on Wii U. So that’s why I was able to unlock Nookington’s even though there’s no online play.

Anyway, I then resumed my normal walk around town. Static was all packed up in boxes, ready to move out of town! That was not acceptable, so I kept talking to him until I got him to reconsider.

Static: Thanks for sticking with me. It's nice to be wanted. Maybe I'll reconsider...A message posted on the bulletin board complained about an unrealistic movie in which two hedgehogs fall in love. This seems like something Phyllis would write.

-Talking to Myself- I just saw this movie where two hedgehogs fell in love! The ending was so cliche! Bah! Unbelievable. The flea market was held today, where you can (try to) buy furniture from your villagers, and they may want to buy some from you. Moe welcomed me to his market, but he refused to sell me his skeleton! I have a bone to pick with him now. What are you scared of? Don’t be so spineless.

Moe: And that's quite the nice little piece, eh? Well, you can't have it.I then headed over the Roost to check out some live music. K.K. performed K.K. Dixie for me (and gave me the aircheck). Next, I went to town hall, where I found a turntable in the recycle bin.

I was about done playing, but I wanted to put my new song in my stereo at home. But as soon as I entered my house, Baabara barged in! She asked about buying my outdoor bath, and I told her she could have it for just 9,999,999 bells. That’s my special price just for Baabara. 😉 She declined the offer.

Baabara: NO WAY!
Your loss.

I didn’t want to wait around, so I just ended my game. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, everyone!

Moe Moves In

Even though today is Groundhog Day in America, Wild World does not celebrate the occasion.

I found Gracie outside of town hall tonight, and she was more than happy to insult my clothing.

Gracie: You are in need of some SERIOUS fashion first aid, STAT!So…I vandalized her car. Don’t try this at home.

Hitting Gracie's car with my shovel (animated GIF).The bulletin board nearby had an interesting notice: Bright Nights start next Monday! This will be a new event for me, and it already sounds more interesting than La-Di-Day or Yay Day.

-Bright Nights Notice- Bright Nights will start next Monday! Who will win the treasured crown of best light decorator?I found a new house in town, and I went inside to see who my new neighbor was. Turns out, it’s Moe the blue cat. I’ve never been a big fan of Moe; his eyes are so huge that they kind of creep me out.

My new neighbor Moe the blue cat.I did a little fishing with the intention of earning some extra bells. But to my surprise, I caught some new fish that I apparently hadn’t caught before! One after another, I caught a pond smelt, a squid, a sea butterfly, and a bitterling. I promptly donated them all to the museum.

After that, I did catch some other fish that I was able to sell. When I went into Nook’s for the last time tonight, Tom Nook had some news for me. He told me that the shop will be closed February 3rd (tomorrow) as the store expands.

Tom Nook: Yes, yes, Jeff, I want you to know we'll be closed February 3rd.

My fish money, along with fossil money and bells from the money rock, allowed me to make another 25,000 bell mortgage payment at town hall.

I’ll be back on Saturday with another entry. Hope to see you then!
