Another Jock Frog

Yesterday, Filbert told me that he is now over his cold. He thanked me for the medicine I gave him last week, and he gave me some diner tile (flooring). He felt the need to remind me that the medicine was vile, though. 😛

Filbert: Uh huh huh huh! That medicine you gave me was vile, dude.

Today, it was Truffles that was sick with a cold! So I gave her some medicine too. These colds can be annoying in the older games, when the sickness just moves from one animal to another.

I noticed a new house, and I went inside to meet my newest neighbor: Frobert!

Frobert: Hey, nice to meetcha! I'm Frobert! You're Jeff, right?

He’s pretty cool! And I thought it was interesting that Drift was replaced with Frobert. I traded one jock frog for another!

Another surprising thing was that he was already unpacked. So that means he actually moved in yesterday, but I didn’t notice! I apparently walked right by his house without realizing it belonged to a new villager. Oops. I wish villagers’ house lights were always on when a villager is home, like they are in City Folk. In Wild World, the lights are off in the daytime, so it’s easy to miss someone.

I spotted Wendell in town, so I went back to my house to grab the gar I had saved for him. I took it over to him, and he gobbled it down. He loved it!

Wendell: Ahhhhhhhh! Mmm...burp! So very delicious! So very full and happy!

As expected, he gave me the “overhead view D” pattern. It’s part of the Nazca lines, and I now have three of the four pieces to it. I had to replace one of my road patterns, but that’s alright. I wasn’t planning on using them anytime soon anyway.

Three of the four overhead view patterns from Wendell.

Unfortunately, I’ll have to wait (at least) until next summer to complete the Nazca lines set. That’s because I need a giant snakehead for the last piece, and those are out of season until next June.

Speaking of fishing, I caught a few big (or valuable) fish in the rain tonight…but not a coelacanth, sadly. However, I reeled in a red snapper, a king salmon, and a blue marlin.

Drifting Away

Today, I found a goodbye letter from Drift in the mail. He has hopped out of town without warning. Was he upset that I didn’t use his song as the town tune last week?

Hoo-ha, Jeff, I'm moving. I have my reasons. No worries, yo! I'm sure you'll remember me fondly. Keep pumpin'! See ya! -From Drift

When I spoke with Pippy, she referenced the fact that two people live in my house. Villager is the other person, and I only created him to unlock spotlight items at Nook’s shop.

Pippy: Whaaaaaaaaaat?! There's only two of you in that house?!

She then went on to assume that Villager is cute?

Pippy: I'm guessing from your smile that the person you're roomin' with is cute!

She wanted me to introduce them, but that’s probably not going to happen.

Over by the museum, Truffles mentioned that Blathers wanted to be a pro archaeologist.

Truffles: Well, I heard that he once wanted to be a pro archaeologist!

She then said it seems like everyone has skeletons in the closet. And that made me wonder what was so wrong about wanting to be an archaeologist? But then, it hit me. Maybe she was making a pun. After all, it’s reasonable to think an aspiring archaeologist might literally have skeletons in their closet.

Truffles: ...Boy, seems like EVERYONE around here has skeletons in the closet, snoutie!

Filbert was sick with a cold today, so I gave him some medicine. Get well soon!

Later, I headed over to the Roost. K.K. Slider performed “Imperial K.K.” for me.

K.K.: All right, get ready to dig the riffs on this ditty: Imperial K.K.!

Before wrapping up my game for the night, I decided to make a few laps around the “lake,” to look for a gar. On about my 5th trip around, I caught one!

I caught a gar! ...Nose like a GARden hose!

I’ll be saving this one for Wendell, so I put it in my house for now. Hopefully I’ll remember it the next time Wendell shows up.

Name That Tune

Saharah was in town on Wednesday, and I helped her out with a couple of deliveries. I took carpet packages to Blathers and Pelly (for Phyllis) for her. Saharah rewarded me with a blue tarp.

Caroline told me that she found Blathers sleeping standing up in the museum (not a surprise). She also mentioned that he can spin his head in crazy directions.

Caroline: On top of that, he can spin his head in all sorts of crazy directions!

I knew real owls could do that, but it would be funny if Blathers actually did that in the game. 🦉

Filbert asked me for a fossil “with legs” (because of his catchphrase), so I gave him a dimetrodon torso. He was very happy with it, and he put it on display right away.

Filbert: It's the smell of...history! It's so cool, with legs!

He thanked me with a lunar rover, which is a pretty cool reward.

On Thursday, it was raining in town. Truffles randomly announced that she’s not into judo when it rains. I’m pretty sure she’s not into judo when it’s dry either, so I don’t quite understand her point. 😛

Truffles: Helloooooo! Know what? When it's raining, I'm just not into judo...

Today is La-Di-Day, the day villagers will sing songs in hopes of having their song being chosen as the new town tune. Drift was the first to sing to me…

Drift: This little song is about how real men love to walk around!

However, his song didn’t stand out to me. I didn’t hire him, but Whitney was also nearby…

Whitney: You're about to hear a singing sensation live! Whitney, all night!

She sang the Mario theme for me, and I hired her…even though I’ve used the Mario song as my town tune before. However, I didn’t keep it very long. Robin also performed a song for me, and it sounded familiar (though I’m not sure what it was). I hired her, and her mystery song is now Forest’s town tune.

Robin: Yeah, I guess it's totally obvious. I'm the Melody Queen of this town!

A few minutes later, a 4th animal sang to me…but not for a town tune. It was K.K. Slider, and he performed “K.K. Dirge” for me at the Roost. I guess we are getting closer to Halloween time, after all.

K.K.: All right, get ready to dig the riffs on this ditty: K.K. Dirge!

Filbert came down with a cold, so I gave him some medicine Thursday and again tonight. Get well soon, little guy!

I wrapped up my night at town hall, where I checked out the notes for the new town tune.

If any of you want to try it out, feel free! Of course, town tunes work in any Animal Crossing game, not just Wild World. Maybe you’ll recognize what it’s from!
