Gracie Two-Ball

By Wednesday, Rolf was over his cold. He thanked me again for the medicine, and he gave me a wet roadway sign.

Rolf: Anyway, I'm back and better than ever.

Today, I shot down three balloon presents. They gave me a daffodil table, a lovely chair, and a cream sofa. I found it hard to believe that I haven’t shot down enough for the golden slingshot yet! So I (just now) searched through my previous blog entries… Including the three balloons from today, that makes a total of 15! So that means my very next balloon should be the golden slingshot! 👍

Peanut is the latest villager to catch a cold. I swear, this town can’t go more than two days without someone being sick. Fortunately for Peanut, I had some medicine to give her.

Peanut: Is that medicine? Or am I hallucinating? GET 'EM OFF ME!!! Oh, like, whoa...

Rolf was packed up and ready to move today…but I’m not letting him go until I get his picture.

Gracie was in town, so I took her fashion quiz. I used my normal strategy, which is to answer how I think Gracie herself would answer…and it paid off again. I earned my Fashionista badge, and I then paid her 5,000 bells for some new fashion. In return, she gave me a two-ball shirt.

Gracie: Ready...and GO!

Surprisingly, there was no accessory this time. 🤷 I confirmed this by trying to remove the accessory that I wasn’t wearing. The game promptly told me that I have nothing.

You have nothing!
Thanks for reminding me.

Bunnie asked me for a new catchphrase, and I normally don’t bother with these requests. But she was now using Big Top’s catchphrase of “villain,” and I really don’t like when villagers use catchphrases that are meant for someone else. 😛 So I told her to say “hop to it” instead.

Bunnie: Hop to it! Hop to it! Hop to it! Hop to it!
I may regret this decision real soon if she keeps repeating it this much.

Just before wrapping up my day, I found a green counter in the recycle bin at town hall. But despite that free gift, it was kind of a disappointing week. Pascal didn’t show up, so I never got my golden axe. And I didn’t get my golden slingshot either, although I now know I’m very, very close. So next week should be better. Hope to see you then!

Taste Terrible

It was raining in town as I started up the game tonight. It was x:x6 (9:36), so I quickly rushed up to the north of town with my slingshot out. One minute later, the UFO flew overhead! It’s hard to believe that the UFO is showing up more than Saharah or Pascal lately.

I shot it down without much trouble, and then headed to the crash site to wake up Gulliver. He shared the secret of long life with me.

Gulliver: The secret to long life! Taste terrible.

Tasting terrible. I guess that means Nintendo Switch game cards will live forever. 😛

Gulliver: Space monsters have very refined palates. They won't eat anything disgusting.

He asked me to collect his UFO parts, so I kept my eyes open for them as I played.

When I got back home, I found a letter from the mayor in the mail. He confirmed my Bug-Off win, and he sent me my 2nd bug trophy.

I eventually found all five of Gulliver’s UFO parts, and he was happy to get them back.

Gulliver: You have my gratitude, my small, potato-headed alien friend.

He rewarded me with a Tower of Pisa, which you can see here in my mush room.

These Gulliver items are adding up, so I may consider moving them to the room on the left, where I currently have a bunch of hybrid flowers.

Rolf was still sick (of course), so I bought some medicine for him once again.

Rolf: Oh! You actually thought of me, eh? Wow, grrrolf?

Peanut was all packed up and ready to move, but I’m obviously not letting her move out this soon.

I’ll be back with more later in the week. Hope to see you then!

Tissues, Scallop, Bug-Off

I was surprised to find a letter from town hall in the mail today. They congratulated me for saving a million bells! Even though I have saved up a million bells before, I never left it in my account overnight. Previously, I immediately donated the million bells to Boondox.

Dear Jeff, In honor of the 1,000,000 bells you've saved, please accept this small token of our appreciation! -Forest post office

A box of tissues was enclosed, and I placed it on my mush table near my bug trophy and compass.

The Bug-Off was underway, but I had some business with Tortimer to attend to first. The mayor was surprisingly happy to see me!

Tortimer: ...Goodness! Why, what in the world do we have here?! Well, HEL-lo there, darling...

But fortunately, he wasn’t talking directly to me. He was talking to my massage chair.

Tortimer: Oh, not you, Jeff! I'm talking to your massage chair!

He not-so-subtly hinted that he wanted it, and of course I handed it over. In return, he gave me a scallop that he found.

Tortimer: Yes, it's a scallop... I found this by the shore earlier. I don't know who dropped it.

And that’s what I’ve been waiting for! Now there’s just one more step to getting the golden axe: Giving the scallop to Pascal!

With that taken care of, I got my net out and started hunting bugs for the Bug-Off. Tortimer said that Goldie was currently in the lead with a 68-mm robust cicada. I caught a jewel beetle, and gave it to Tortimer. But it was only 37 mm. Rarity doesn’t matter in Wild World Bug-Offs, it’s all about size. And I just wasted a 2,400-bell bug.

A few minutes later, I caught a robust cicada that was 70 mm big. I took over the top spot, and Tortimer rewarded me with a modern sofa. But my lead was narrow, and there were still hours to go, so I tried to improve my score.

As I was hunting, Bunnie pinged me. She wanted me to buy something, and I declined. So of course, she called me a meanie and said I hate the earth. 🙄

Bunnie: What? You big meanie! You won't help me recycle? You HATE the earth! MEANIE!

Eventually, I caught an emperor butterfly. It measured 106 mm, and Tortimer gave me a cabin wardrobe. With that score, I felt much better about my chances, and I turned the game off for a while.

Shortly before 6:00, I started up the game again. Tortimer said my score remained unchallenged. As the 6:00 hourly tune chimed, Tortimer told me the Bug-Off was over. He said the results would be posted to the bulletin board…although it may be hard for me to see through my tears (implying I lost?).

Tortimer: Though it might be hard to see through your tears! Heh heh HOORF HOORF HOORF!

After that, a screen popped up informing me that the Bug-Off was over, and then Tortimer was gone. So that little bit of dialogue must be relatively rare, since you can only see it for about 10 seconds or so until the hourly chimes are done ringing.

Anyway, the bulletin board was not updated yet. So I guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow for official confirmation, but there’s no way anyone could have beaten me.

Two other quick notes about today: I shot down another balloon present, and I found a Mr. Flamingo inside. I also bought some more medicine for Rolf.

See you all next time!
