8 Years a Mayor

Today is the 8th anniversary of the day I started Forest and became mayor, and Isabelle greeted me as I started up the game.

Isabelle: I almost can't believe it, but it's been 8 years to the day since you became our mayor!

She rushed me off to a special ceremony at the town tree. Blathers, Hornsby, and Molly joined us. Isabelle said a few words, I said a few words, and Isabelle gave me another sapling clock for the occasion. We then fired off some party poppers…even though I didn’t time the screenshot very good, haha.

Blathers, Hornsby, Jeff, Isabelle, and Molly celebrate the anniversary of Forest.

Anyway, there was another camper in town today: Merry the cat. She may be cute, but she’s not of my favorites, so I did not invite her to move in.

Merry: This trip was SO last minute, but I'm totally glad I listened to that little voice inside my head!

But something even more rare than a camper occurred today: Lolly and Inkwell were both walking around town. 😂 I didn’t have to search for them in the museum or Main Street for hours, so that was a welcome change. 😛

Lolly and Inkwell greet Jeff.
I got to talk to them until they were sick of me.

Rolf asked me to catch a tiger beetle for him, so I took a trip out to the island to find one. I know they can be caught in town, but it always seems easier on the island. Besides, it gave me a chance to hear Kapp’n’s songs; it’s been a while.

Kapp'n: Do sunflow-ers need lots of sun to grow? I guess maybe that's just a superstition.

I caught the bug and returned to town. I gave Rolf the bug, and he only rewarded me with a blue diamond shirt. That was a lot of effort for just a shirt, but that’s the chance you take. 😀

Rolf: I know it's not really enough, but please take my lovely blue diamond shirt!

A couple things I noticed, since I’m more used to playing New Horizons. For one thing, New Leaf villagers ask for a lot of favors! By the time I talked to all nine of my villagers, I had about four favors to complete! Favors seem so rare in New Horizons.

Another thing is the bug-catching. It’s harder to catch bugs (especially ground bugs) from the lower camera angle. In New Horizons, I always switch to the higher camera angle to see the bugs better.

According to Luna, my most recent dream visitors include Lilac from Island and Yoshi from Oideyo. Thanks for stopping by!
