Explorer’s Day 2016

Today is Explorer’s Day (Columbus Day), and I found Isabelle over at the event plaza. She was handing out sailboat models for the occasion.

Isabelle: It's a sailboat model! With it, you can really get into the excitement of Explorer's Day!There was also a three-person face-cutout standee for Explorer’s Day. I grabbed the front spot and took hold of the map. Meanwhile, a treasure chest looked through its telescope, and the border of my town tree waved goodbye…to its lunch.

Julian asked me to make a delivery to Big Top for him. So I tracked down the elephant and handed him the package. Inside was a gift that Big Top had intended for me: a mummy shirt! Even though it is Halloween season, I didn’t really want to put it on. Sorry, but I’m wrapped up in other things.

Big Top: It's a mummy shirt! I thought it might look good on you, J-bot!But speaking of Halloween, Beth submitted a design for some Halloween dungarees. If you’re interested, you can scan it from the Halloween QR Codes page.

After making my rounds, I deposited some money into my account. My balance reached 83 million bells. I’m slowly making progress towards my goal.

Your current balance is 83,020,000 bells.

Pashmina’s Potatoes

Thursday night, Agent S asked me to catch an ocean fish for her. I rarely (if ever) turn down requests like this, since they’re pretty easy to complete. It’s the requests for specific fish or bugs that are a pain.

Agent S: Oh, what I wouldn't GIVE to have one of those salty critters of my own, in a sack!I caught a sea bass for her, and she rewarded with a gelato tee.

Last night, Beth came over for a short visit. Pashmina asked me about potatoes, and we ended up discussing french fries. She mentioned putting vinegar on fries, which is something I love. But then she said “yum-diddly-um,” as if she was Ned Flanders. So the boost in her coolness was very short-lived.

Pashmina: Ever tried 'em with a little sea salt and vinegar? Get that salty-tangy thing going? Yum-diddly-um, dude!Beth and I got some coffee and sat on the bench. Then I stood up and released a butterfly on her head.

~ Fishing Tournament Results ~ Winner: Big Top. Second: Pashmina. Third: Agent S. Great work, everyone!Chip: It's all over now, though. You should really join in next time! I'll be there!Since it’s October 8th now, the Roost is back on its normal schedule for employees. However, I was still unable to work because of the fishing tournament. But tomorrow, at last, we can work again!

Announcements

I have a couple of announcements. First, Friday Night Forest will not be held next weekend. Instead, I will be opening on Friday, October 28th. There won’t be a designated outfit for visitors like there was last month, so feel free to wear whatever you like. Come in costume if you’d like, since it will be the weekend before Halloween!

And secondly, the time has come to scale back the frequency of blog posts. Instead of three new entries each week, there will be two. Of course, some weeks might still have three entries, but two will be the new norm. Disney Magical World 2 is coming out next week, and I’ll be preparing a new blog for that game.

And just for fun, here’s a picture of Resetti in Mario Kart 8 (after using a filter on it).

Amiibo Camera Feature Coming to New Leaf

The New Leaf update coming later this fall will have a new Amiibo Camera feature. You can scan up to four Amiibo Cards, and those Animal Crossing villagers will appear in photos you take with your 3DS camera! Here’s an example that was shown on Nintendo’s Japanese site.

Isabelle and Digby in an Amiibo Camera picture. This feature is coming to Animal Crossing: New Leaf in fall 2016.It’s quite reminiscent of the 3DS AR Games, which is a free app that comes with 3DS systems. It combined real photos with Nintendo characters like Mario, Link, Samus, and Kirby. Tomodachi Life also has an AR camera item, which allows you to take real photos with one of your Miis in the picture.

But this time you’ll be scanning in your Amiibo Cards instead of AR cards to add Animal Crossing villagers. While it’s nothing groundbreaking, it sounds like it will be a lot of fun!

You could use the Amiibo camera to make it look like you’re flushing an ugly villager down the toilet. Or you could pose a character next to your Animal Crossing Amiibo figures or plush toys. Maybe even make Isabelle sit next to your real-life dog? Or maybe she could even ride on your dog’s back! Leave a comment below and share your ideas for how you plan to use this Amiibo camera feature! 🙂

Meanwhile, in Forest…

Yesterday, Agent S asked me to bury a time capsule for her. I wonder if this is really a time capsule, or if she’s just tricking me into burying her nuts for her before winter comes.

Agent S: I want you to bury a time capsule that has my note inside. Will you help me and Future Agent S?

I took it up to my usual time capsule spot (the very northwest corner of town) and buried it in a hole there. Doing it this way makes sure it’s very easy to find when the time comes to dig it up.

Burying a time capsule in the northwest corner of town. The scent of the freshly buried acorns must have drawn all the squirrels to Forest, because Filbert showed up at my campsite today. I wasn’t interested in asking him to move in, even though I do have a free spot right now.

Filbert at the campsite: You're from this town, aren't you?And another squirrel showed up on Main Street for the first time. It was Cally, who moved out of town in July of last year. Her time in Forest was something I was trying to block from my memory, but that’s not possible now that she’s back.

Cally: Well, hello! You're looking great! I thought I might run into you here. WHEE!
Go away. You drive me nuts.
