Surprise Party and New DLC

Even though this isn’t my real birthday, I entered my character’s birthday as July 1st. So when I started up the game today, Aurora quickly dragged me away and took me into her house. SURPRISE!

Aurora: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!That’s right, Aurora threw me a surprise party!

Aurora: Welcome to your surprise party, J-bot!Aurora and Big Top are two of my three favorite villagers, so it was really nice that they remembered my non-birthday. But wait… why is Katt here?! Party ruined. Just kidding…maybe.

Aurora, Big Top, and Katt throw me a surprise birthday party.I then had to blow out my candles…by literally blowing in the 3DS microphone. The problem is, I don’t know where the microphone is! So I started blowing all over my system until my character blew out his candles. This party is a really cute addition to the game. But when I was done partying and wiping the spit off my screen, I headed back outside.

Happy birthday to me! It's always nice getting to celebrate with good cake and good friends. In the mail, I had letters (with gifts attached) from Mom, Aurora, and Big Top.

The new month brings new DLC, so I headed to the post office to check out what the new item was. It’s a palm-tree lamp.

Pelly: Sorry to keep you waiting! I hope you enjoy your new palm-tree lamp. That was the regular DLC for this month. But Best Buy also has another DLC item available: the cat tower.

Pelly: Sorry to keep you waiting! I hope you enjoy your new cat tower! Here is a look at both the palm-tree lamp and the cat tower. They’re both tall items.

My new DLC items for July 2013, the palm-tree lamp and cat tower. After that, I went to work at the cafe. My notes are paying off, as I was able to get Big Top’s coffee perfect today.

Big Top: Ahhhh, that hits the spot! This is just what I wanted to drink. And I also got Aurora’s coffee just right too. I’m glad I could repay them both for their kindness earlier.

Aurora: This is wonderful! You have a real talent for brewing coffee. Brewster is lucky to have you working here.As for the other two customers, I got their orders partially correct, but not perfect. But Brewster still gave me some superb coffee beans for my work.

After that, I headed back outside and found my four fossils. I took them up to the museum, but all four were duplicates. When I went into Club LOL, I gave Shrunk a peach and he taught me the mischief emotion. I like this one a lot.

Shrunk: Psych! Gotcha! After I finished my shopping run, I ended my game…for the moment. But since it’s July now, that means there are lots of new summer bugs (and fish) available. So I opened my gate tonight to do some late night bug-catching. But once again, disconnections were a problem tonight.

First, Nick came over. Then we got disconnected. I reopened; Kyle, Wendy, and Lauren came over. Wendy made me a Jif peanut butter logo pattern.

Mabel: That design is by Wendy from Oakville. It's called Jif.We caught some bugs and showed them off near the top of my east ramp.

Wendy, Lauren, and I show off our bugs we caught, as Nick walks by, not seemingly interested.Unfortunately, we soon got disconnected and lost those bugs. When I reopened, Wendy, Pelon, and Marcey came in. Pelon had asked me if he could have the funny glasses when I first mentioned them in a blog entry from June 3rd. At first though, he didn’t even remember. But I gave them to him and he tried them on.

Pelon tries on the funny glasses I gave him.A bit later, I saw someone running around wearing a sombrero and a gas mask; that’s an odd combination. I didn’t know who it was!

A visitor of mine wearing a gas mask and a sombrero.
That would be a good combination if you were eating Mexican food.

Turns it out it was Pelon. He actually gave me a silver axe as a gift. With a silver axe, stumps will have special patterns (like the butterfly stump I had before). I cut a tree down with it, and it had a heart symbol.

I cut down a tree and find a heart pattern using the silver axe that Pelon gave me.We also dug holes around the stump so that we could fall from the stump into the holes. But because there was so much lag tonight, the people who fell into the holes didn’t struggle at all. They just stood there motionless in the hole! It was an odd sight to behold.

Pelon motionless in a pitfall.A bit later, we saw Katt. So naturally, we tried to kill her.

Pelon: Kill it before it lays eggs! And shortly after that, Aurora asked me to find her some perfect fruit. Yeah, okay. I’ve only seen one perfect piece of fruit in two months, yet she expects me to give her some.

But the interesting thing wasn’t what she said, it’s what Wendy did in the background. She ran across the bridge, but apparently because of lag, her legs did not show up! She looks like a happy ghost, floating across my bridge! Take a look!

Aurora: So if you find some perfect fruit, would you please share it with me?Wendy decided to go hide somewhere in town, and she told us to find her. Marcey was the first to find her; she was on my private beach. I joined them, but Pelon couldn’t–he didn’t have his wet suit with him.

Me, Wendy, and Marcey standing on my private beach. But before long, we got disconnected again. So I lost some bugs and the silver axe. But that’s okay, because I prefer to get the silver tools on my own anyway. I was done in Forest at this point. But Wendy invited me over to see her police station, so I went to Oakville to take a look at it.

Copper: Good day, citiz-- Er...visitor! Welcome to the Oakville police station!Unfortunately, Copper wouldn’t let me take items from the lost and found.

Copper: There's no way any of this stuff is yours--you're from out of town!Back outside, I saw Kabuki. He asked how much I liked my town, and I said I liked it a lot. So he said he may have to check it out sometime.

Kabuki: Ho ho! That good, huh?! Well then, I should really go check it out for myself sometime!Wendy also showed me her wind turbine, complete with sound effects.

Wendy and I stand by her new wind turbine. And she had so many colors of flowers around her house that it looked like a box of Froot Loops threw up.

Loads of colorful flowers around Wendy's house. And inside, the demon cow admired her house.

Balloon Presents Changing Paths

Today, Molly told me that she borrowed something from Rolf a while back and hadn’t returned it yet. But I don’t know how that’s possible, since Rolf just moved in yesterday!

Molly: Well...I borrowed something from Rolf a while ago and never returned it.And Fuchsia told me that she’s moving out of town on the 4th of July.

Fuchsia: Anyway, I need to get out there and experience stuff like this. So next month on the 4th, I'm leaving!I didn’t try to stop her.

Fuchsia: Hah! I get it. You're playing it cool. Trying your best not to cry. It's OK.Over on the bridge, I ran into Benedict. He wanted a new greeting, so I told him to say “buhk buhk.” That was Hank’s catchphrase in the GameCube version of Animal Crossing.

Benedict: Buhk buhk! I love it! It's so cool sounding. And then I heard a balloon present flying by overhead. By the time I got my slingshot out, I saw something strange. The balloon was moving vertically (well…to the south). It confused me for a second, but then I saw it resumed its horizontal path (to the east). The reason? There was a house in the way! It altered its path to go around the house!

A balloon present alters its path to go around a house!I did not know balloons would do that. So I didn’t shoot it down right away; I followed it to see if it would happen again. And sure enough, when it encountered a tent, it moved south one space to fit around the tent. It does not go back north to resume its original path, though; it stays on its new path. With no further houses in its way, I then shot it down before it went over the river.

Shooting down a balloon present. POP!After that, I went to go work at the cafe. Thanks to my previous notes (and the process of elimination), I was able to get Isabelle’s order correct. It’s funny how they never give the full details of how they like their coffee until after you’ve already figured it out.

Isabelle: I don't want to drink anything but mocha coffee with plenty of milk and sugar! It's my favorite! In addition to good coffee beans, Brewster also gave me a siphon. I really don’t plan on filling my house with coffee-related items, but it was a nice gesture.

With my work done for the day, I headed up to Main Street for my shopping run. I usually start at the museum on the far left of Main Street (to identify and donate any fossils), then move left to right from building to building. I update my town at the Dream Suite for an easy 5,000 bells, and then stop in Club LOL for an emotion (if I’m playing early enough in the day). Today, Shrunk taught me the surprise emotion; it’s the exclamation mark that appears over your head.

Using the surprise emotion I got from Shrunk in Club LOL.I’m still hoping for shock or disbelief, but surprise is a decent (but less dramatic)  alternative to those. Looking at my list of emotions, it seems I only need 11 more of them to complete the collection.

After finishing my shopping run, I decided to move forward with another town project. I decided to build the pyramid that Tex suggested to me on Friday.

Pyramid PWP: 698,000 bells. It really would have been ideal if you could build it on the beach, since an Egyptian style pyramid like this should be around sand. But unfortunately, no projects can be built down there. If you even try going down the ramp, Isabelle will stop you.

Isabelle: What's the matter, Mayor? Let's finish our work first! But I did the next best thing: I put it just to the right of the ramp, just one space from the edge. So you’ll be able to see it from the beach (if you press up on the control pad) and even from the dock. So I’m looking forward to seeing that. Unfortunately, it’s a very expensive project–698,000 bells. So it may take some time to pay it off.

That’s all for today, but of course I’ll be back with more tomorrow. I know some of you may be close to getting Shampoodle in your towns, and I just want to remind you of my Animal Crossing New Leaf Hair Guide. It will come in handy when you’re ready to get the hairstyle (and color) that you want.

Modern Clock

Today, the money rock gave me gems instead of money bags once again. This is the third time. (So take a good look!)

Ore from today's gem rock.I spotted Phineas in town, and he gave me a Skilled Diver badge.

I got the Skilled Diver badge! It's proof I've found lots of things in the sea!He also gave me a Good Samaritan badge for helping out my neighbors a lot.

I got the Good Samaritan badge! It's proof of how I never turn down a request to help!I now have a total  of six badgers badges. As I continued my walk around town, I saw two of my favorite animals fishing on the river bank, on opposite sides of the bridge. How cute.

Aurora and Molly fishing in the river.I heard a balloon present above, but it was no ordinary balloon present. It was a silver slingshot!

A silver slingshot floats by on two silver balloons.I shot it down, and now I can start shooting two pellets at a time.

On the bulletin board, there was a message from T.I.Y., advertising an extremely rare wall-mounted monitor. Sounds interesting. I’ll check it out later.

Important Announcement: Today we have an extremely rare wall-mounted monitor for sale! So rare, it's magic! The fruit Wendy brought me a few days ago really paid off today, as they were all producing fresh fruit! Here you can see two of my lemon trees. Stay away, Shelbyville!

Two lemon trees in Forest.I then saw Katrina’s tent and went inside. Katrina talked about a row of golden model homes. But the key to this fortune was a royal crown. Nevermind. As if I have a million bells to spend on a crown.

Katrina: Royal crown...Not far away, I spotted a new house. Rolf has moved in!

Rolf: Anyway, starting today, I'm a resident of Forest as well!Forest now has ten villagers for the first time!

And back outside, I saw Katt. She wanted me to get her some fresh fruit. I had the perfect fruit to give her: a lemon! Unfortunately, she seemed to enjoy it.

Katt: Mmm, tasty! Can't beat fresh fruit! She even gave me a blue-trim wall as thanks. But enough about that. It was time for the ceremony commemorating the completion of the modern clock!

Isabelle: Welcome to the grand completion ceremony for Forest's vital modern clock project! But the modern clock wasn’t the only new clock I got today. From Ireland, Gulliver sent me a shamrock clock. I hung it on the wall of my museum exhibit room.

A shamrock clock from Gulliver hanging on the wall.Try to ignore those balloons. I’m in the process of splitting that stuff into two separate exhibits. But while I was up on Main Street, I took some fruit to Shrunk. He thanked me by teaching me the “worry” emotion.

Shrunk: The other day, I was walking around and I saw an older lady trip and fall before my very eyes! After that, I went into T.I.Y. to check out the wall-mounted monitor. I bought it and tried it out in my house. It’s basically just a TV, but it’s flat and hangs on the wall. And it’s not in color…

The wall-mounted monitor hanging on my cheese wall.At this point, I was done playing. But later on, in the evening, Wendy asked to use my Shampoodle to try out the color contacts. So she came over, only to find that Harriet did not give her an option for color contacts. I tried it myself and got this message:

Harriet: I'm booked with appointments for the time being, so I'm afraid I only have time to do your hair right now.Apparently, you can only get color contacts in your own town (when the gate is closed). It seems weird that visitors can have their hair done, but not their eyes.

And before I ended my night in Forest, I showed Wendy my modern clock. I noticed that it looks a bit like a guillotine, so I asked Wendy to help me get Katt into it. 😉

Jeff, to Katt: I has guillotine. But I think Katt knew what we were planning, so she quickly headed off to another part of town. That’s all for tonight, but I’ll be back with more tomorrow!
