Zodiac Rat 2020

Last night was New Year’s Eve. Isabelle was standing next to a large countdown clock at the event plaza, and she gave me a glass of sparkling cider.

Crazy Redd was also there, and I bought a blue New Year’s hat from him.

However, I didn’t stay for the final countdown. But I picked up the game again today, and Isabelle was again standing at the event plaza. She said she’s been thinking about mice, so she got some mice decorations.

Isabelle: This year, I had mice on my mind, so I got some mouse decorations to celebrate. Hey, why not?
Are you sure you’re a dog, not a cat?

So she gave me a zodiac rat; 2020 is the year of the rat on the Chinese zodiac. This is what it looks like:

At the event plaza, the countdown clock from last night has been replaced with a face-cutout standee that shows four people celebrating the new year.

Jeff pretends to celebrate the new year by sticking his head into the faceboard on New Year's Day.

My villagers were also talking about the new year. Boots told me he would be hugely successful in 2020.

Boots: So 2020 is the year I'll be hugely successful! I won't let you down!

But then he stopped to say that he’s actually successful every year. 😛 Typical Boots.

Boots: Well, I'm actually pretty successful every year! Ha ha!

Claudia told me about her new year’s resolution to sell her own workout video.

Claudia: One of mine is to finally market and sell my revolutionary workout video!

It’s called Fidget Yourself Fit.

Claudia: It's called Fidget Yourself Fit! You mostly just chew your fingernails and tap your feet. Feel the burn!

Even a caged tiger wished me a happy 2020!

Rolf, seemingly in a cage: Great to see you here in the mighty year 2020, J-bot!

According to Luna, my recent dream visitors include Jack from Evermore and Lydia from Pearl. Lolly also mentioned Velia from Grandesa. Thanks for stopping by, and have a great 2020, everyone! 🙂

Toy Day Trouble

Today is Toy Day, and I made sure to pick up the rest of the Santa outfit before the shops closed. I even bought the Santa boots (unlike last year).

Jeff wears the Santa outfit on Toy Day in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

After that, I met up with Jingle the black-nosed reindeer. He gave me Santa’s sack of presents, and I immediately looked through the items. The three wallpapers made me nervous, so I went to the Emporium to look at them in my catalog.

The astro wall, cheese wall, and paw-print wall in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Which was yellow, which was orange, and which was beige? I honestly wasn’t sure. I thought the astro wall looked orange (and the astro set is orange), so I felt pretty good about that one. And even though I thought the paw-print wall looked more yellowish, I generally associate cheese with the color yellow. So I decided to go with cheese as my yellow wall.

But Boots was the first villager I visited as Santa. He wanted some gray electronics, so the TV with VCR was an easy choice.

Boots: Yes! A TV with VCR!

Lolly’s request was for a blue umbrella. So I gave her…the blue umbrella. Clues can’t be any more clear than that. 😀

When I ran into Agent S, I felt like that was the moment of truth. She wanted yellow wallpaper, and I was relieved to see she was happy with it.

Agent S: A cheese wall! Exactly what I wanted! I am, like, totally freaking out right now!

So I felt pretty confident as I continued making my gift deliveries. But…not for long. I went to give Rolf his present, and he wanted a green doll. I had a hula doll and a garden gnome, and I hadn’t looked them up in the catalog. However, I associate gnomes with the color green, so I gave him the garden gnome.

Rolf: Ah, a garden gnome? Oh, no. It's nothing! Thanks!

Oops. I was wrong. Apparently the gnome is red, and the hula doll is green. That also meant that Aurora’s gift was wrong as well.

Aurora: It-it's a hula doll.

I actually felt bad that I messed their gifts up. I was so concerned with getting the wallpapers right that I didn’t bother to check if there were any other troublesome clues. At any rate, I got 8 of 10 correct. here is the full list of what I gave everyone:

  • Agent S: yellow wallpaper – cheese wall ✔️
  • Aurora: red doll – hula doll ❌
  • Big Top: orange wallpaper – astro wall ✔️
  • Boots: gray electronics – TV with VCR ✔️
  • Claudia: beige wallpaper – paw-print wall ✔️
  • Hornsby: green carpet – green rug ✔️
  • Lolly: blue umbrella – blue umbrella ✔️
  • Molly: colorful food – candy jar ✔️
  • Rolf: green doll – garden gnome ❌
  • Vivian: gray furniture – tall lantern ✔️

I returned to Jingle, and he made a snide remark saying that he would have been careful to hand the gifts out correctly.

Jingle: I mean, I probably would have been more careful to give the right gifts to the right people, but oh well.
Listen pal, this is your job, not mine.

He still gave me a festive wreath for helping him out.

Well, at least most of my villagers were happy. And Lolly in particular was so excited that she got to meet Santa himself. 😛

Lolly: A present delivered by Santa himself! I should have known better than to doubt the North Pole crew.

My recent dream visitors include Dean from Range and Sammy from Kalos. Thanks for stopping by, and have a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season! 🙂

If you happen to get New Leaf for the holidays (either for the first time or for a 2nd town), remember to use the face guide here on JVGS to start out your character with a face that you like!

Winter Solstice 2019

On Wednesday, I headed up to Able Sisters to swap out my green brick path for my icy brick path. I always use it during winter. You can see it here, as Aurora gives three cheers for our friendship (aww).

Aurora: Three cheers for our friendship, Mr. J! In igloos! In igloos! In igloos!

Lolly and Molly were hanging out together at Molly’s house. Maybe I should check here the next time I have trouble finding Lolly! Anyway, Molly told me that her socks keep coming off her feet at night, and her feet feel like ice. So she came up with a possible solution:

Molly: So I'm thinking of using duct tape around my ankles to keep my socks from slipping off in bed.
Don’t you mean duck tape? 😉

I spotted the first igloo of the season, and Peewee was inside. He can stay there, though. I just like the exterior appearance of the igloo. 🙂

An igloo appears at the Forest campground.

On Thursday, I gave Claudia a new catchphrase.

Claudia: Now the only question is, how long until everyone starts copying MY catchphrase, if I died?

Today is the winter solstice, and in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, that means the sun never comes up all day. Hornsby was freaking out from the daytime darkness.

Hornsby: I'm freaking out, J-bot! The sun hasn't come out all day! I think the sky is busted!

Isabelle was standing at the event plaza, handing out glow wands.

Isabelle: Hello, Mayor! Today is the Winter Solstice! It's so chilly today!

I did a little ice skating…well, fake ice skating in the face-cutout standee.

Jeff pretends to ice skate at the Winter Solstice faceboard in ACNL.

Aurora told me that she wanted a doll for Toy Day…one with pretty hair, to be specific.

Aurora: I really hope Jingle brings me a doll. One with pretty hair!

I kept talking to my villagers today until I got all of my Toy Day clues. This is what everyone in Forest wants:

  • Agent S: yellow wallpaper
  • Aurora: red doll
  • Big Top: orange wallpaper
  • Boots: gray electronics
  • Claudia: beige wallpaper
  • Hornsby: green carpet
  • Lolly: blue umbrella
  • Molly: colorful food
  • Rolf: green doll
  • Vivian: gray furniture

I better be careful with those wallpapers…one yellow, one orange, and one beige? That could be tricky, especially for a colorblind person. 😛

So I’m all set for Toy Day now…except for the Santa outfit. I bought the Santa hat today, but I still need the other pieces.

According to Luna, my recent dream visitors include George from Werthers, Burrito from Marvels, and Amelia from Lakeside. Vivian also mentioned someone named Crisfer, but she didn’t specify a town.

I might be back with another entry on Christmas Eve, but we’ll see. Happy holidays, everyone!
