Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog

Hello, and welcome to my Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog! I'm Jeff and here you can follow along with my adventures in the game. Unlike other Animal Crossing games, Happy Home Designer does not run in real-time. So each blog entry will usually cover multiple "game days." If you'd like, you can start from the beginning or just jump right in!

Day 55

I finally bought my first pack of Amiibo cards today. But I wasn't exactly thrilled with the cards I got: Muffy, Tiffany, Gigi, Pudge, Eugene, and Tom Nook.

Muffy is the black sheep with a clown face, Gigi looks like Jambette's sister, Pudge is making one of the most awkward smiles I've ever seen, Eugene is my mortal enemy, and Tom Nook is...well, Tom Nook. Yes yes.

What an attractive bunch of animals.

I decided to try out one of my new cards by using the Amiibo phone. I'm not sure why, but I called up Eugene. He wanted a space for self-reflection. He's so full of himself that he probably just wants to stand in front of a mirror and stare at himself all day.

I decided to stick Eugene high on a mountaintop in winter, where he can't frighten anyone and he may freeze to death. I made his home into a mushroom, only because I wanted to surround him with fungus. I also gave him a barbed-wire fence--we don't want him to escape! And we don't want any innocent critters to accidentally stumble in to see him, either.

Koalas eat leaves (normally eucalyptus) to survive. So I gave Eugene a bunch of leafless stumps.

Indoors, Eugene insisted on a director's chair and a TV camera. Does he think he's a movie star or something? Ha! Well, I decided to be nice and give him something that would keep him entertained 24/7: Mirrors. Lots and lots of mirrors. He can enjoy staring at himself for a long, long time. As for me, I couldn't bear to look. I've seen enough.

After the montage, he taught me the mischief emotion. The project code for his house is 0893-7785-021.

Day 56

I used another of my Amiibo cards to call my boss, Tom Nook. At first, he asked me what type of house I would like! I wish! Once he learned that I would be the one building a home for him, he was happy that I would be serving him. Uh, what?

Tom Nook then came down to the office and introduced himself to me. I am Nook, hear me roar. Dude, I work for you. You hired me.

Tom Nook told me the design style was up to me. I'd actually rather have a theme to work with, to be honest. But before I got into the house design, I decided to stick Tom Nook up in the mountains too. I painted his roof red, but I didn't make any other changes to the outside of his house. I gave him a few trees and a sidewalk, though.

Indoors, I decided to make his house look like Nook 'n' Go. The first row of products has saplings and seeds, and the second row has medicine and stationery--although I had to use four-leaf clovers (books) for the stationery. Unfortunately, I had trouble stocking the back row. Normally, that's where you would find carpet, wallpaper, and tools. But I haven't unlocked any of the tools, and carpet/wallpaper can only be installed, not displayed. So I pretended it's Halloween time and just filled that row with candy. As for the furniture items, I used Tom Nook's blue golf bag, a campfire, and a double-neck guitar.

A raccoon figurine stands in for Tom Nook behind the counter.

When I was done, Tom Nook taught me the agreement emotion, yes yes. If you'd like to visit, just Nook 'n' Go to project code 0608-7781-001.

See you next time!
