Weathering the Storm

On Monday, I received a goodbye letter in the mail from Admiral. He has set sail for a new adventure somewhere else.

Dear Jeff, Well, my streak continues... I just can't seem to settle down in any town for long. This is kind of odd, because I've said so many goodbyes, but this one actually hurts... Goodbye... Admiral

Over in Acre B-5, I found a new house just north of Puck’s house. Rocco the hippo (the overgrown construction sign himself) has moved in. I’ve seen a lot of Rocco throughout the series in multiple towns, although he hasn’t lived in GameCube Forest since 2013.

Rocco: So I'm Rocco! Got a problem with that?!? 'Cause I'm real good at fixing problems, you get me?
He’s as cheery as ever.

His arrival also means that both of my temporary villagers are hippos, with Lulu being the other one. I can confidently say that a hippo will be moving out next month, although I don’t know which one it will be.

Genji reminded me that there will a fishing tournament every Sunday in June, and there will be a prize for the winner. But he doesn’t care about the prize itself, he just cares about winning.

Genji: All I really want...is to win! That's all that matters to me! Win! Win! Win! Win! Win!

Over at the dump, I was surprised to find an asteroid! Wow, even space junk is ending up in the dump! It must have really cratered in value.

Finding an asteroid in the dump.
It once lit up the skies,
now it attracts only flies.

Today, there was a treasure hunt underway! I saw on the bulletin board that someone buried an ivory piano in one of the “C” acres!

Free ivory piano for whoever finds it! It's buried somewhere in the C acres. Hurry up! It may already be gone!

A piano is a big prize! But I know I’ll be able to find it if I just calm down and compose myself. 🎼

Anyway, it was raining pretty hard in Forest today. Candi thought the rain was miserable, but she admitted it must be great for snails. 🐌

Candi: Y'know, I was just thinking... For snails, this miserable rain must be like, the best thing ever, sweetie!

She even said she was a bit jealous of the snails! That’s a weird thing to say.

Candi: ...I think maybe I'm a little jealous of those snails...

Puck wasn’t a fan of the rain, either. He said he usually just goes straight to bed when it rains like this!

Puck: You can usually count me out once it starts raining. I go straight home and go to bed, brrrrrrrrr.

I would have thought penguins would enjoy the rain, but Puck is the polar opposite.

Baabara was down in the dumps too, but not because of the rain. It looked like she must’ve had an argument with Candi. Yeah, speaking to Candi can do that sometimes. πŸ˜›

Baabara: ...It's all so overwhelming.
Baabara: I can't deal with talking to anyone right now. Just leave me alone...
I can relate to this feeling. πŸ˜›

Surprisingly, Belle seemed to be the happiest villager in town! She even said she enjoyed seeing me!

Belle: Y'know, even if it's raining, seeing your face totally mellow me out. I'm not even kidding, cuddles!

It’s rare to see Belle in such a good moo‘d! You know it feels like a weird day when Belle is happy, and I could actually relate to Baabara! What’s going on today? πŸ˜›

But then a few minutes later, I ran into Lulu, and she insulted my clothes.

Lulu: Do you really feel like yourself in that outfit? I mean, not to be a snoot, but it doesn't really wow me.

And with that, order was restored in Forest. πŸ˜›

But to be fair, Lulu actually gave me a free outfit (a stormy shirt). It seemed to fit the situation, so I decided to keep it and I later put it on.

Over near the police station (behind the town map to be exact), I found the buried treasure of an ivory piano!

Check it out! I dug up an ivory piano!

Score! I won the grand prize!

Sometimes you have to just weather the storm and tune out the noise to make it through. Hang in there, fellow Animal Crossers!

See you next month!

Update: I recently posted my latest GameCube Moments video, so I hope you’ll check it out:

Cherry Blossom Festival 2025

I played last week (on April 6th) during the Cherry Blossom Festival. But before I headed over to the wishing well, I checked my mail. Mom sent me a cute letter about moving a painting.

My dear Jeff, I tried to move this painting yesterday, but, instead, it moved me! True story! -Your art-loving mom

At the event, I found that Hank was this year’s dancing fiendβ€”just like he was on the same date 14 years prior.

Hank: Yee-haw! Yahoo! They can't teach you moves this good, Jeff!

Lulu and Kody were seated at one table, and Kody wanted to party down, catch petals, and get funky! πŸ˜†

Kody: I just wanna keep yelling stuff and catching petals! Party down! Get funky!

Ursala and Sydney were seated at the other table. Ursala called herself a “discriminating glutton,” as Hank appeared to be almost ice skating in the background. This event has such a fun, festive atmosphere!

Ursala: During flower viewing, I become quite a discriminating glutton.

After I was done schmoozing and dancing, I continued on with my walk around town. Of course, Candi wouldn’t let me go without demanding to know what I was doing. πŸ˜›

Candi: Hey, wait up a second! Where are you going? By gum, I'm MAKING it my business, sweetie!

I eventually made my way back around to the wishing well. Tortimer was there this time, despite not being around the first time. I’ve never been sure why he does this, but I’ve noticed it at events many times before. At any rate, he was happy to see everyone having a good time.

Tortimer: Heh hehh hehhh hoorf! Eveyone's so happy, sprout! I'm so happy to see my townsfolk...so happy.
A typo…or maybe he’s just drunk and slurring his speech. πŸ˜›

I played again today, and I found a goodbye letter from Boris in the mail. He must have been Russian to get out of town. πŸ˜‰

Jeff, Sorry if this throws you for a loop, but I'm ditching this one-human town, and I may not be coming back. Thanks for being tolerable. Maybe we'll meet again sometime. Sincerely, -Boris

When I spoke with Candi, she gave me a free pear. That in itself isn’t all that remarkable, until you pear it with what happened next: Less than a minute later, Puck gave me a free cherry! That’s two foreign fruits in under a minute! Now that is probably a record for me, although there’s obviously no way to verify that.

Puck: Whoa! You don't mind that I found it on the ground? That's where bugs live!
JEFF = Jeff Enjoys Foreign Fruit

Thanks, Candi and Puck!

Boris’s replacment was Admiral, who seems to live in an underground bunker. He was just staring at a static-filled TV screen when I entered his house.

Admiral staring at a TV in his underground bunker.
“They’re coming…”

When I went up to talk to him, he did his Robert De Niro “You talkin’ to me?!” routine.

Admiral: What are you looking at? Were you talking to me? I don't see any other people around here. So were you?

I later ran into Baabara, and she assured me that I’ll never be as popular as her. Aw, what a shame. πŸ˜›

Baabara: For example, I've heard from a good source that you'll never be nearly as popular as I am, daahling!

She continued to tell me that Pelly and Pete may be dating, but I found a mistake in her dialogue. The second sentence in this part doesn’t start with a capital letter. πŸ˜›

Baabara: But Pelly is so quiet! she won't give me any of the juicy details.

Shortly after that, I returned home and wrapped up my game for the day. I hope to see you all next time!

Pete Drops In

Today, I found some airmail from Bangle the tiger. She has moved out of town, unfortunately.

To Jeff, I'm leaving town, and I'm not telling anyone where I'm going, but don't you worry! I'm off on a grand adventure that's totally going to rule! Wish me luck in my new life. Don't forget me! -Bangle!

I just happened to be playing around 5:00 p.m., so Pete dropped in right after I finished reading my mail. He said that I can’t just give mail directly to him, I have to take it to the post office.

Pete: If you want to mail a letter, you can't just give it to me. Take it to the Post Office.

And he even told me what Phyllis makes him do in the middle of the night!

Pete: Sometimes, Phyllis even needs me to deliver mail in the middle of the night! That's the worst!

At the lake, I ran into Baabara. She said that every time it rains, the weather gets warmer. I don’t think that’s true at all; I think she’s just trying to pull the wool over my eyes. πŸ˜›

Baabara: They say every time it rains, the weather gets a little warmer, and I guess it's true, daahling.

Actually, there seems to be a series of lies dialogue about the cherry blossoms that start appearing in early April.

Static: Now that I think about it, most of the trees in town are starting to put out little flower buds.

Several of my villagers were talking about the upcoming cherry blossoms. Puck wanted to have a picnic beneath them, and that sounds like such a cute idea.

Puck: Have you ever had a picnic beneath the cherry blossoms? I'm already looking forward to it, brrrrrrrrr...

I ran into Bangle’s replacement, Lulu the hippo. She previously lived in Forest back in 2011, and she also currently lives in my other town, Ohio. I’m not a big fan of her, but this Lulu actually did seem pretty nice so far. She gave me a free cherry!

Lulu: I totally picked this one cherry tree clean, but I can't eat that much fruit myself, yaaaawl.
I think you could.

Over at the wishing well, Belle was heartbroken to learn that I caught a coelacanth before she did.

Belle: Sigh. I was trying so hard, too...

At the police station, I tried on a few shirts that were in the lost and found. I ultimately decided to keep the light line shirt on, even though it wasn’t anything special. I was just tired of wearing the stars, I guess. πŸ˜›

Kody asked me if I’d like to manage his new swimming team. I usually answer “yes” to these, but I wanted to see how he’d respond if I declined.

Kody: Hmm, I guess swimming isn't very popular... Watching it is such a blast...

There’s a slight mistake there, with two spaces in between “isn’t” and “very.” πŸ˜›

I later ran into Baabara again, and she said she’s going to stay up late tonight.

Baabara: I'm going to stay up late tonight, because I feel good. And because I stay up as late as I wish.

I can’t argue with her logic this time!

My latest video shows eight things I’d like to see in the next Animal Crossing game. And one event from the GameCube game made my list. Please check out the video if you haven’t seen it yet:

I’ll be back with more in April! Hope to see you then!
