Festivale 2023, Non-Cranky!

Today is Festivale, and I made my way over to town hall to speak with Pavé the dancing peacock. Viva Festivale!

Pave: VIVA... ...FESTIVALE!

Fortunately, I remembered to wear a costume (a matching “look” like you’d wear on Halloween) to score some free candy from each of the outdoor villagers. Of course it only works one time per villager, but it helps.

Roscoe: With a costume like that, you stand out even more than usual, nay!

The object is to give Pavé three pieces of candy (of whichever color he asks for) to receive a piece of Pavé furniture. The furniture sells for 12,000 bells apiece (except for the floor and wall, which are only worth 1,800), so it can be a lucrative event. The problem is that it takes a lot of candy, in a variety of colors. If you have some leftover candy from Halloween (or last Bunny Day), like I did, that gives you a big head start!

For my first run, Pavé wanted blue candy. Once I gathered up three of them, he gave me a Pavé bed in return.

Pave: Pave must thank you! Take this Pave bed!

But once you run out of leftover candy or free costume candy, you need to play mini-games with villagers to earn more. Unfortunately, each game is a gamble. You earn candy if you win, but you lose candy (or 500 bells) if you lose. So it’s helpful to leave your candy on the ground (or attached to a letter) so you don’t lose progress. In this case, Boomer took 500 bells from me because I’m not psychic. 😆

Boomer: Since you're not psychic, I'll need to take your 500 bells now, awwwk!!!!

Other mini-games include guessing heads-or-tails, playing rock-paper-scissors, or battling out a game of “mouth soccer,” which boils down to choosing left or right in a series of exchanges.

Boomer: GUUUUUUUUUUMDROPS! It's in, awwwk!!!!!

Note: You can’t play mini-games if your pockets are full, since you’d have no place to put the candy. 😛

Hopper: Why would you need to bring so much junk to Festivale, slushie?

I saw a new house in the spot where Gaston recently vacated, and I was surprised at what I found inside: A villager that wasn’t cranky! Even better, it was Antonio the anteater!

Antonio: SWEEEEEET! Good to meet you. My name's Antonio!

Antonio lived in Forest years ago. In fact he lived here back in 2011, when I first started this blog. He was Bob’s next door neighbor at the time, which gives me hope that Bob himself could return any month now. But for now, I’m very happy to have Antonio around again. 🙂

Antonio is a jock, by the way, which makes him the first non-cranky villager to move in since last June! That was eight months ago, when Boomer the lazy penguin arrived.

Anyway, I continued playing games and taking candy to Pavé. But I eventually used up all of my blue and red candy, and by then, I was tired of playing mini-games. So when Pavé asked for red candy again, I decided to stop. With no color trading like later games, and no saving/quitting to change his desired color like in New Leaf, I wrapped up my day…even though I had tons of green and yellow candy remaining.

But I was able to sell my eight items (six pieces of furniture and two carpets) for a total of 75,600 bells. Not bad.

Tom Nook: Ah, for all of that, I'll give you 75,600 bells!

I hope you all had a good day, and enjoyed the event (if you participated). See you next time! Viva Festivale!

Harry’s Vital Mission

The snowman I built last week sent me a snowman chair in the mail. ☃️

But the snow on the ground will be gone in just a week. So I decided to buy this grass shirt at Able Sisters to celebrate the imminent return of green grass.

Mabel: Oh, that looks absolutely perfect on you! Shall I wrap it up?

Fortunately, I remembered to put my New Year’s shirt in my house. I’m always afraid I’m going to sell it accidentally, like I apparently did with the first one in 2009.

Harry asked me to deliver a gift to Tom, and I agreed to help out.

Harry: Aha! You could handle this with your eyes closed... But you'd bump into stuff. I've got a vital mission for you!

The item turned out to be some palace tile (flooring), and Tom appreciated it. When I returned to Harry and told him the news, he rewarded me with some kitchen flooring. Why is he giving away so much flooring?

Later on tonight, the northern lights appeared in town. I normally seem to pose for aurora photos on a bridge or near a waterfall, but I decided to do something a bit different this time. I took photos near Nook ‘n’ Go and the museum.

The northern lights over Nook 'n' Go.
The northern lights over the ACCF museum.

The lights are pretty, and this might be my last time seeing them for the season.

But while I was at the museum, I also dropped in for K.K. Slider’s Saturday night show. I asked for a random song, and he performed K.K. Blues for me (and Hopper).

K.K. Slider plays for Jeff and Hopper.

Note: Gaston’s replacement has not moved in yet.

Festivale is coming up on Monday! Do you plan on participating? I’m not sure if I will or not, but I’m considering it.

A Wet Cold

Today, I received Gaston’s goodbye letter in the mail. So long, Mr. Mustache.

Jeff, Thanks for being here for me. I'm a better animal for knowing you. I'm leaving Forest behind, but I'll be thinking of you in my new home! -Your pal, Gaston

My next-door neighbor Lobo was hanging out around my house, and he commented on the cold (and snowy) weather. He said at least it’s a wet cold. 😆

Lobo: It may be cold, but at least it's a wet cold, ah-rooooo.

The snow flurries must have put me in a snowman-building mood, because I decided to roll up two snowballs to make this guy. He’ll be sending me a reward in the mail.

Snowman: Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn... Oh, I've just woken from the most exquisite sleep. But...what's this?

I don’t normally run into Pete very often, but I did today. So I stopped to have a brief chat with him.

Pete: Hey, have you ever written a love letter?

Unfortunately, Queenie was sick with a cold today. But I gave her some medicine that I had with me. Get well soon, Queenie!

Queenie: I'm either wearing an outfit that clashes with my skin tone...or I have a horrible cold, awwwk!!!!.

I saw a large fish shadow in the sea, and I thought it might be a coelacanth since it was snowing. It turned out to be a tuna instead, but that’s not a bad catch either. 😎

I caught a tuna! I only wish I'd caught it soona!

I finished my day with a bus ride out to the city. Phineas was there, and he gave me a red bunny balloon. 🙂
