Hornsby’s Jam

It was raining in town yesterday, and Midge wondered if we’d see a rainbow!

Midge: Do you think we'll see a rainbow after all this rain, for lunch?

That’s something I haven’t even thought about much. I don’t think I’ve seen a rainbow in New Horizons yet, and they’re generally pretty rare throughout the series. It kept raining into the night though, so my rainbow-less streak continues. 😛

Hornsby was in an unusually bad mood; he was really upset. I’ve never seen him in such a dark place before.

Hornsby: Folks keep asking if things are OK. I'll tell ya what's OK! Nothing! Everything in life is real un-OK!

I hate seeing my buddy so sad. 🙁 Even if he was only feeling so bad because he couldn’t find his jar of jam.

Hornsby: These are dark days...real...real dark. Tell your jam you love it while you still got the chance.

I’m wondering if the recent update added new dialogue. Because lately, I’ve been seeing a number of things I don’t recall seeing before.

Redd was in town, and he had a real wistful painting, a fake scary painting, a sinking painting that looked real, and a wild painting left half that I wasn’t sure about. Since I already had the two real ones in the museum, I took a chance on the wild painting.

Xavier came over last night for a test run on the obstacle course. We discovered that during online play, it is possible to come out of the same warp pipe that you went into (at least if multiple people are using pipes at the same time).

I have three pipes, let’s call them A, B, and C. Xavier went into pipe A and came out pipe C. I went into pipe B, and came out of pipe B. I’m guessing the game determined we would both come out of pipe C, but since C was occupied, it sent me back to B. However, I don’t think it’ll be a problem during races, because everyone will be going into pipe C and coming out A or B. So two pipes won’t be in use at the same time.

Today, I received my wild painting left half from Redd in the mail. Unfortunately, Blathers informed me that it was a fake.

I listened in on a conversation between Louie and Tia. Apparently, Louie called her “Miss Tia,” and Tia said it made her feel like a teacher. 😛

Tia: I feel like a teacher, because he just called me Miss Tia!

Tia responded that maybe she should call Louie, “Mr. Louie.” But Louie said he’d rather be called “Boss,” so he could feel like he’s in charge of something. 😛 It was a cute conversation.

Flick was in town, so I grabbed some insects out of storage and sold him over 150,000 bells worth of bugs.

It was raining again today, so I postponed my initial obstacle course race. I’ll try again tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully Mother Nature will provide some (Super Mario) Sunshine for the race. 🙂 If all goes well, I might even post my video of the race tomorrow evening.

But my anniversary party will be held tomorrow night regardless of weather. Anyone on my friend roster can come at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

Anniversary Update

Yesterday, I received my latest reward from Gulliver in the mail. He sent me this turban.

Last night, Wisp and Celeste were both in town (at the same time). Wisp ultimately gave me some cute red-tile flooring, and Celeste gave me a DIY recipe for a star clock. That star clock recipe is exactly what I had just been hoping for! 🙂

SWEET! I learned a DIY recipe for a star clock!
Look at Celeste’s footprints. ❤️

Today is Shamrock Day, which of course, is better known as St. Patrick’s Day in real life. Unfortunately, New Horizons does not have a Shamrock Day event (unlike New Leaf). But I did shoot down a balloon present that contained a recipe for a shamrock wand.

C.J. was in town with a new seasports challenge for me. He wanted to see some big-time fish, so I caught a black bass, a squid, and a dace to complete the challenge. When I checked my storage, I only had five fish saved up for him. But he paid me 38,700 bells for them.

Apollo asked me to deliver a package to Louie, and Louie asked me to guess if it was clothing or furniture. I guessed clothing, and I was right…so Louie gave it to me. It was a striped tank.

At about 9:00 tonight, the one-year anniversary update went live. I downloaded the update, and I received a letter from Nintendo. Uh, I mean, from Nook Inc. 😉 They sent a first-anniversary cake, and I’m actually a bit surprised they’re sending it early…instead of having it arrive in the mail on March 20th. But I’m not complaining.

The first-anniversary cake in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This is the equivalent of the sapling clock in New Leaf.

At Resident Services, there are two design upgrades you can purchase with Nook Miles. One lets you access the custom design portal with your NookPhone…so you can upload and download designs without having to go to Able Sisters! Very helpful for night owls like me, playing mostly when Able Sisters is closed for the night.

The other upgrade adds 50 regular design slots and 50 pro design slots. Awesome! It also allows you to make designs for face-cutout standees, umbrellas, handheld flags, and fans. I’m going to start using the extra design slots right away to add more patterns to my Mario obstacle course!

Lots of blank design slots waiting to be used.

Speaking of which, here are my plans for that. I’m going to try to finish up my obstacle course by tomorrow night. On Friday, I hope to host my first races either in the late afternoon or early evening.* I’ll probably ask for four contestants on Twitter…but try to have one of the Mario outfits ready to wear if you plan on joining in. It can be Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Wario. I have a couple outfits in case someone doesn’t have one, but I don’t have enough for everyone.

*Update: Due to rain on my island Friday, I decided to postpone my obstacle course race at least until Saturday afternoon, pending the weather in Forest (follow on Twitter for further details). However, my anniversary party will go on as scheduled, rain or shine, at 9 p.m. Eastern on Saturday!

See you all soon!

Dreaming of Ninten

Yesterday, I had a little chat with Rizzo at Able Sisters. He said that the pressure to look stylish without copying other people was enough to make a guy stop wearing clothes. WHAT? Don’t you dare start running around this town naked, Rizzo! OMG!

Rizzo: But you gotta look just like 'em or you're not in style! It's enough to make a fella stop wearin' clothes!

Last night, I visited Nintendo’s official dream island (Ninten) at dream address 6382-1459-4417. It has some Mario-themed areas, including Mario’s name spelled out in mini-islands.

The land mass spells out MARIO.

And of course, it showcases the new Mario items and makes good use of the warp pipes. You can teleport to several spots around town.

Luigi jumps out of a warp pipe.

It’s a good island, but I was actually a bit underwhelmed. I guess I just expected something amazing coming from Nintendo. In fact, I think AT&T beat Nintendo at their own game! The AT&T Land island that I featured in Dream Island Hopping 4 was much more impressive.

Today, I found a lost item that was stained with drool! That’s kinda gross.

This looks like someone's diary. Is this stain from drool? Maybe they fell asleep on it while writing.

I figured it probably belonged to a lazy villager (Hornsby or Bones). So I asked Hornsby about it, and he admitted it was his diary. He thanked me for returning it by giving me a denim jacket. Fortunately, there was no drool on the jacket. 😉

Gulliver was in town, so I dug up the five pieces of his communicator. He will be sending me a reward in the mail tomorrow.

Gulliver: You're the best! Thanks for all your help. I promise to return the favor.

When I spoke with Midge, she said that my face is a real work of art today. Just like Tia the other day, Midge seems to be under the impression that I’m wearing makeup or something. I don’t understand where this is coming from. I even double-checked that I didn’t pick the rosy cheeks option and I’m not wearing any patterns on my face either. 🤷

Midge: Your face is a real work of art today, burrito.

I’m going to be busy finishing up my Mario obstacle course over the next couple days. See you all soon! 🙂
