Vanishing Rainbow

When I started up the game this afternoon, I was treated to a rainbow on the title screen! 🌈

A rainbow on the title screen of Animal Crossing: Wild World.

But since I started recording my footage a bit late (after the title screen had already booted up), I decided to reset it to see it from the very start. I wanted to see the logo fade in, on top of the rainbow. I thought it would’ve made a cool GIF. But when I reset the game, something unexpected happened: The rainbow was gone!

Now hue see it, now you don’t.

I always thought of rainbows as basically weather conditions in the game. Like if it was raining, resetting it wouldn’t change the weather (unless a new hour started, but that wasn’t the case here). So there must be more randomness to rainbows than I thought. 🤷

Once I started up the game, I found a note in a bottle down on the beach. There was a horoscope inside, telling me to wear a hockey mask while I’m running around like a shovel-wielding maniac. That sounds like good advice for this time of the year. 🎃

Katrina was in town today, so I decided to ask her to tell my fortune. She dealt her cards and saw a waterfall symbol in its natural state (whatever that means). But then she spoke of a raccoon who is successful in business…clearly referring to Tom Nook.

Katrina: Successful in business, a raccoon laughs wildly, clutching his great belly.

She said nothing can threaten his future, and it would even be more likely for a waterfall to reverse its course!

Katrina: There is nothing that can threaten his future.
Katrina: More likely would be a waterfall reversing its course...

She mentioned the words “confidence,” “rights,” and realism,” but I have no idea if it was supposed to be a positive or negative fortune. I’m guessing it was just neutral, because it was so vague. And now I remember why I don’t normally get my fortune told. Most of the time it’s entirely pointless. 😛

When I visited Angus, he remembered something that made him laugh. He apparently saw Pippy fall down on the ground, and he’s still laughing about it. 😆

Angus: Heh heh heh heh heh... I'll never forget the sight of Pippy falling over!

I know I’ve seen this dialogue several times before, but it’s still funny to see them laughing at other animals.
