My First Winter

Winter has arrived now, with snow covering the trees and ground. Except for the many dirt spots all over town, of course. Snowballs (for making snowmen) have also started appearing.

Snow covers the winter ground and trees, as I walk towards a snowball.I saw Chevre walking around, so I was a bit relieved to see that she didn’t move out. She didn’t have anything interesting to say tonight, though.

I made sure to check the bulletin board for the new message of the week, and it did not disappoint.

*Message of the Week* History? Written by winners. Message boards? Losers.I ran into Pudge outside of the museum, and he asked if I wanted to buy his plaster wall for 1,180 bells. After I told him that was too much, he gave it to me for free. I was grateful, but only for a moment. Until he called me scary, that is. What do you mean by that?!

Pudge: And don't worry about thanking me... You're scary right now!Puddles was also nearby, and she wasn’t being any nicer than Pudge. She was making fun of me for being poor, and she joked that I would be her best friend if she gave me one bell.

Puddles, laughing: Hey, if I give you one bell, will you be my best friend, splish?!I tried making a snowman, but I wasn’t having much success. Twice, I (apparently) crashed or otherwise destroyed snowballs behind trees. But I eventually found two of them fairly close together, and I was able to make a snowman. But, it was facing the back of Baabara’s house. Hopefully there’s not a window back there.

Snowman: Foooooooore! Say hey! Nice work putting me together like that.
What’s with Puddles giving me the evil eye in the background?

I found three fossils on my walk around town tonight. I think the snow makes buried items easier to see. Two of the fossils were donated to the museum, while the other one was returned to me.

I then made a 25,000 bell mortgage payment at town hall before ending my game for the night. See you again on Saturday!

Messages of the Week

I had a chat with Kiki tonight, and she told me about something that Puddles did recently. Apparently, Puddles threw a temper tantrum on the beach.

Kiki: I've never seen anyone stomp around a beach so furiously, kitty cat!

A message posted on the bulletin board warned of the coming snowstorms. Winter weather is just hours away!

- Heavy Snow Warning - A big snowstorm will arrive here tomorrow. Please make sure to dress warmly when you go out. While I was at the bulletin board, I decided to glance at the some of the other posts on there. And I’m glad I did. Many of these posts are entertaining, and even funny. Here’s a poem about eating:

- Poetry - Just one bite won't hurt. Yum bite gobble gobble. Yum. I ate twelve cupcakes. And this message seems to have been written by whoever buries all these pitfall seeds around town. Phyllis, is that you?

*Message of the Week* Ha ha ha. Hee hee hee. Oh, pitfalls. I love thee. These “messages of the week” and other posts are one thing that Wild World does better than any other Animal Crossing games. There may not be a bird that tells you when a new message has been posted like in City Folk and New Leaf, and there may not be clues to buried NES games and other gifts like on GameCube. But for sheer entertainment value, you can’t beat random messages like this.

*Message of the Week* It never hurts to ask. Unless you ask for hurt.I’ll have to remember to check the bulletin board more often.

Yuka told me she wanted to have a competition to see who could catch a dung beetle first. She’s probably going to win, because the beetles will probably flock to all her dung.

Yuka: Tee hee! I'll never lose to a loser like you!
Behold the queen of dung.

Since it’s Saturday night, I headed over to the Roost for some free music. The song this time was K.K. Marathon. It doesn’t have a lot of vocals, and the song was slow and repetitive. It may as well have been a lullaby, because it was literally putting me to sleep!

K.K.: All right, get ready to dig the riffs on this ditty: K.K. Marathon! When I visited Chevre, I saw that she was all packed up in boxes! She said there was a family crisis of some sort.

Chevre: I don't want to say much, but there's a bit of a family crisis, it'sa me.I kept talking to her repeatedly, telling her not to leave. And eventually, she agreed to stay. Kind of. I guess we’ll see.

Chevre: Jeff, if you want me here so badly, I'll think about it. But no promises!I found two more fossils tonight, and I donated both of them to the museum. The store was already closed, so I couldn’t sell anything. I’ll have to do that (and make a mortgage payment) next time. See you then!

Pudge Moves In

I found a new house in Forest tonight, and it belongs to Pudge the bear cub. I guess he’s okay, but I don’t think he’s going to be one of my favorites.

Pudge: Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Pudge, pudgy.
Not the most creative catchphrase.

Down on the beach, I discovered another note in a bottle. This is the third one I’ve found so far. It was from a company called Beautychem Labs, offering to pay 3,000 bells for hour to try on cosmetics.

SIT THERE AND GET PAID! All you need to do is test some fine cosmetics. Over 3,000 bells per hour. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!! -Beautychem LabsI had a chat with Bill, and he asked if bigger is better when it comes to houses. I said yes, and that pleased him. He said if I called the shots around here, Forest would be big-time. Hmm, good idea. Maybe I’ll even be the mayor some day! 😉

Bill: Dr. J, if you called the shots, Forest'd be big-time in no time!
Careful what you wish for. I may enact the “Duck Season” ordinance.

I happened to notice that when you hit a tree with your shovel, it’s not just the tree you hit that shakes. Other nearby trees also jiggle.

Nearby trees jiggle when one tree is hit with a shovel.I found two fossils in town tonight, but the museum already had both of them. It was a pretty uneventful night overall, but I’ll back again on Saturday with more. Hope to see you then.
