Retreat, Caroline

Yesterday, I was surprised to find a goodbye letter from Caroline in the mail. She left without warning. 🙁

So long, Jeff, I'm moving, but don't worry! Tortimer told me we're all on the same planet, so I'll be OK! Keep smiling! -Caroline

I also got my monthly bank statement from the postal division at town hall. I earned 90,250 bells in interest this month.

When I went over to Robin’s house, I saw that Truffles was also there visiting. I didn’t realize it initially, but it was actually Robin’s birthday party! Fortunately, I’ve been keeping a couple of spare furniture items in my pockets, so that I always have an emergency birthday gift on hand. So I gave her my Mrs. Flamingo. Happy birthday, Robin!

Robin: Oh, look at this! It's just what I've always wanted! A Mrs. Flamingo.
Happy bird-day!

She gave me a lovely vanity as a party favor.

Today, I got another surprise. Caroline’s replacement has already moved in! And guess who it is? Marina the octopus!

Marina: My name's Marina, and I'm your perfect textbook Cancer, blurp.

Marina just moved out of my City Folk town in October, and she lived in my New Horizons island as recently as 2023. So I’ve been seeing a lot of her in the past few years. But that’s not a problem, because I like Marina a lot! Welcome to Forest, Marina! 🙂

Robin asked me for some new clothes, so I bought her an earthy knit at Able Sisters. But when I took it over to her, she wouldn’t accept it! She said it would look better on me.

Robin: You know, I think my earthy knit would look better on you.

She said she didn’t want to make the other girls feel bad by looking too pretty in it? So why then would it look better on me?

Robin: When a pretty gal wears something like that, all the other girls feel bad.

Filbert asked me to deliver a letter to Truffles for him. But as soon as we finished the chat, Truffles walked right up to us and started a conversation with Filbert! She told Filbert that this was his chance to tell me something.

Filbert: Say something? Err... I didn't have anything to tell J-bot...

But he denied having anything to admit to me, and the conversation left him depressed. I then gave Truffles the letter from Filbert, and she told me to say hello to him (again, he was right there). But I couldn’t tell Filbert anything yet, because he was too upset.

Filbert: I'm sorry, Jeff, but seeing you right now isn't cheering me up at all.
Don’t blame me, I was just helping you out!

Once he finally started feeling better, he thanked me for delivering the letter, and he rewarded me with 510 bells.

Spare Jackhammer

On Thursday, Pippy informed me that she was finally over her cold. She thanked me for all the medicine and she gave me a fireplace. She told me to enjoy it in a pond, but I don’t think it will work there.

Pippy: Here! Your favorite! A fireplace! Enjoy, in a pond!

Robin asked me for a new greeting to replace “Where’s Batman?” I agreed to help out, but I kept a similar theme…

Robin: Batman and who?

Over by Nookington’s, Truffles told me that Tom Nook and Sable have “some sort of relationship.” Of course, that’s not really saying much.

Truffles: Yeah, apparently he and Sable have some sort of relationship, snoutie!

Pascal was in town yesterday, so I had a chat with him on the shore. He told me that love is blind like an eyeless deep-sea creature. That’s oddly specific. 😛

Pascal: Maaannn, love is blind like an eyeless deep-sea creature.

He gave me a ship cannon…presumably to fight off any eyeless deep-sea creatures that may crawl ashore. 😛

When I visited Caroline, she offered me her spare jackhammer. It’s funny to me that a cute squirrel not only has a jackhammer, but has a spare jackhammer. How does a squirrel end up with things like this? 😆

Caroline: Hey, bunny, you want a jackhammer? 'Cuz I've got a spare.

Tonight, some snow flurries greeted me as I started up the game. It’s that time of year!

Snow flurries fall from the sky in Animal Crossing: Wild World.

Curt is the latest animal to come down with a cold, so I gave him some medicine yesterday and again today. Get well soon!

Whitney’s catchphrase continues to pay dividends. She’s been told that her skin looks like fresh snow, on a pig. 😆

Whitney: I've been told before that my skin looks like fresh snow, on a pig.

After making my rounds, I finished up my night with a concert at the Roost. I asked K.K. Slider for a random song, and he performed “K.K. Cruisin'” for me.

K.K.: All right, get ready to dig the riffs on this ditty: K.K. Cruisin'!

Just a heads-up for those who follow my Wild World video series. The first seven episodes originally used Youtube annotations, which Youtube stopped displaying in 2019. So they were left without my thoughts and puns for the past several years. But I’ve started to go back and re-add those, as well as add new notes and puns, and re-upload those videos. The first two are done, and more are on the way. Episode 1Episode 2

Two Slides

Yesterday, Truffles was very excited to tell me what she found…

Truffles: What, you ask?! It's a crack on the ground! Can you believe it? A CRACK!!!

A crack on the ground. But the dialogue didn’t have much of a point to it. She was just saying that you can dig where you see cracks in the ground to find what fabulous things were buried there. Just obvious, Day 1, tutorial type dialogue. 😛

Pippy has still been sick with a cold this week, so I gave her some more medicine yesterday and again today. However, she said she’s still not fully recovered yet.

Today, Curt was being unusually nice to me. It was odd.

Curt: I don't mean to sound like a kiss-up, hon, but you're good people.
Curt: Hmm... Yeah, I like that you come over and talk to me! You're all right!

Even though that conversation felt weird, that was nice of him.

Robin asked me for some blue furniture, so I kept an eye out when I went to shop at Nookington’s. I spotted an elephant slide, which is mostly blue, so I decided to buy that for her.

An elephant slide for sale at Nookington's.

I went up to Robin’s house, but my heart dropped when I walked inside. She already had an elephant slide!

The inside of Robin's house, including her elephant slide.

I know in some games (at least New Horizons), they won’t accept a gift if they already have one. But I tried it anyway, and to my surprise, she accepted it! She liked it, and she rewarded me with a cowhide rug! But this begged the question: Would she display them both? So I left and re-entered her house…and the answer is yes!

Two elephant slides on display in Robin's house.

She even said it was weird to think about life without it!

Robin: Sometimes it's weird thinking about what life was like before I had it.

That’s such an odd thing to say, considering she already had one. 🤔 But hey, if she likes having two slides, that’s fine by me.

Frobert told me there was a lot of furniture he likes, but first he had to worry about his sweaty floors. Why would his floors be sweating? 😉 No, I guess he meant he had dripped his own sweat all over his floor, which sounds even worse. Gross…and an odd thing to say.

Frobert: But before I buy anything, I gotta do something about my sweaty floors!

At first I thought that was just (weird) random dialogue. But after I heard him say it a 2nd time, I wondered if he was actually asking me for some new flooring. So I went back to the shop and bought him some red tile (flooring). However, when I returned to him, he made no mention of the flooring in my pockets. I guess buying it was a waste of time (and bells).

At town hall, I found a birdcage in the recycle bin! Not sure who threw out a bird, but I guess they were trying to be Earth-friendly…you know: Reuse. Recycle. Re-tweet. 🐦

After selling some fossils and fruit, my savings balance reached 18 million bells.

Pelly: The current bell balance is 18,000,000.
