Favors for Ankha

I received a goodbye letter from Penny the mouse yesterday. She has squeaked her way out of town.

Jeff! I awoke the other day with the wanderlust, so I just up and left. Wild, huh? On the road, destination unknown! Anyway, thanks for dealing with my craziness! Cheery-bye! -Penny

At Nookington’s, I bought myself a deep blue tee and changed into it. I also purchased some sky blue paint for my roof. Hopefully it will last a while.

Since last month, I realized that I can still visit the island even though my GBA SP has a dead battery. I remembered that I can use my GameCube + Game Boy Player to function as the GBA! So I hooked everything up (even though the GameCube wasn’t even connected to a TV), and I headed off to the island. I was able to chat with Ankha for the first time in a long while.

Ankha: I mean, I figured you'd just gotten bored of the island... ...And of me...

She gave me a mega strumboid back, which I apparently gave her at some point in the past. She then asked me to bring her a harp and a pachira. When I returned to the mainland, I ordered both items from my catalog.

I met up with Penny’s replacement, Pompom the duck. She lived in Forest previously, back in 2011.

Pompom: Good evening! You seem kinda lost to me... Do you live in this town, rah rah?

Hank was being his usual cheery self, and he made me smile. 🙂

Hank: I'm thinking all the trees in Forest are filled with happiness at the sunshine, buhk buhk!
Hank: I'm pretty dang filled with happiness, myself!

Today, I got my two ordered items in the mail, and I took them out to Ankha on the island. She bought both items from me.

Ankha: No way! That's fabulous! Can I really, truly have it? Wow, you are sooo gullible... I mean NICE! So NICE!

I then left the island and returned again. I wanted to see if she displayed the items; it turns out that she displayed the harp, but not the pachira.

She then asked for my cow print shirt, which is a valuable Gracie exclusive! I decided to give it to her, just because I thought she would look stupid dressed as a cow. 😆

Ankha: Oooh, that's a very nice item! Which one? Why, that cow print! Duh! It would look amazing on me!

But seeing her look like that was my only reward. She didn’t pay me for the shirt, or even offer anything in trade!

Ankha: All right! Yay me!

She bought a ptera skull that I had in my pockets, and then she asked me to sign her guestbook once again. I always like dating the notes that I leave.

NOTE: Ankha took my cow shirt. 4-30-23

I helped her out a lot more than I usually do! I then returned to the mainland and headed up to Nookington’s. Today is raffle day, so I couldn’t sell anything. But I always like looking at the raffle prizes, even when I don’t have enough tickets for an entry.

See you all next time! Never Stop Crossing! 🙂

The Trading Game

Bunnie has bounced out of town, and I got her goodbye letter in the mail today.

Jeff! I awoke the other day with the wanderlust, so I just up and left. Wild, huh? On the road, destination unknown! Anyway, thanks for dealing with my craziness! Cheery-bye! -Bunnie

Now that the snow has melted, my ugly green roof has revealed itself. I need to change that, even though I forgot to do it before the store closed tonight.

Static took a look in my pockets and decided that he wanted my tall clankoid that I just dug up. He offered 2,470 bells for it, which is about triple what Tom Nook would pay! I gladly accepted his offer.

Static: That's a pretty solid deal! Yeah, I don't think Old Man Nook would give you this kind of money for it...
That’s for sure!

Down on the shore, I found Gulliver passed out. I woke him up, and he gave me a bunch of excuses as to why he fell off his ship. He then gave me a tribal mask.

Gulliver: What!?! You think I didn't fight a giant squid at all? Then explain why my face looks like this!
maybe u just ugly. jk

Moments later, I met Bunnie’s replacement: Mickey Mouse! Well, okay, she says her name is Penny, so I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. 😉

Penny: By the way, what's your name, ska-WEAK?
Her catchphrase is a little… Goofy. 😛

She previously lived in Forest back in 2011, which was the first year of this blog. (Want to see that entry?)

Hank gave me some advice on making new friends. I don’t think I’ll take his advice, but I appreciate that he’s trying to help. 😛

Hank: You gotta be more aggressive! you gotta go to other villages and stuff, buhk buhk! And say: HEY! Be my friend!

I bumped into Baabara near the wishing well, and she wanted to play a game where we trade items. But not just once, repeatedly, until I say to stop. Believe it or not, I don’t recall playing this exact game before. I mean surely, I must have at some point, but I think it’s probably been many years. Unless I just declined when they asked.

Baabara: Now! The rules, Jeff. We'll trade items until you want to stop. Pretty basic!

She said the trading was limited to furniture, wallpaper, and carpeting. I agreed to the terms, and the trades were automatic and random (I couldn’t choose which items to give or receive).

The first trade was my gyroid for some modern tile (flooring). The second try was another gyroid for a citrus wall. After that, I stopped. I didn’t want to give away my tribal mask from Gulliver for more wallpaper. 😛

Once I was done making my rounds, I pulled all the remaining weeds I saw, and made sure my town status was perfect again. I then returned home and saved my game. Goodnight, everyone! See you next time!

Lighthouse Duty

When I played earlier this month (on February 9th), I received a goodbye letter from Blaire in the mail.

Dearest Jeff! During my entire move, I was sure I was forgetting something. You know what it was? I forgot to say adieu to you. I hope this letter will ease your devastation... All the best! -Blaire

Her replacement was Cleo the snooty horse. She previously lived in Forest back in 2012.

Cleo: On a different subject... My name is Cleo! Well? What do you think? Isn't that a lovely name?

On February 12th, I found Tortimer over by the wishing well. It turns out it was time for his winter vacation!

Tortimer: I'm going to be taking an official vacation to this tropical island tomorrow... Oh...the sea turtles...

He wanted me to turn on the lighthouse each day from the 13th through the 19th, and I initially turned down the offer.

Tortimer: Every mayor deserves an occasional tropical frolic. That's not asking so much, now, is it? Noper!

But he didn’t take “no” for an answer. And by the next day, I had changed my mind. I decided to load up the game and turn on the lighthouse.

Turning on the lighthouse in Animal Crossing.

On the 14th, I received a bunch of valentines in the mail from my female villagers. Each one had a gift attached, but Emerald sent me a scale. A scale! What kind of Valentine’s Day gift is that? Is she calling me fat?

Maple and Sydney both sent me this letter, saying I’m the one they like the most.

Dearest Jeff, You're the one I like the most. Don't tell anyone. It's not right to boast! -From Maple
Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone. 😉

Sydney sent me a maple bonsai, which would have been funnier if it came from Maple. 😛

I continued turning on the lighthouse each evening. Last Thursday, I went into an igloo and found Sydney inside. She wanted to play a game where I picked a card to determine the price she would pay me for my mega buzzoid.

Sydney: Promise me you won't be a sore loser if you don't like the price, OK, okey dokey?

The card I picked showed 880 bells, so she paid me roughly what Nook would have paid me anyway.

I later found a buried item and dug up an Arwing! Nice! (It was a treasure hunt item that Puck buried.) I put the Arwing in my house for now.

On Saturday, Hank tried to convince me that his igloos are better than everyone else’s igloos. 😛

Hank: If you think my igloos look the same as anyone else's, Jeff, then you just don't understand art!

Yesterday, I received a goodbye letter from Cleo! She sure didn’t stick around long! Her replacement was Mathilda the kangaroo. She previously lived in Forest in 2013-14.

Mathilda: Mine is Mathilda. Well, nice to meet you, wee baby!

Today, Tortimer returned from his vacation! He was pleased that I turned on the lighthouse every night, as he asked.

Tortimer: But enough about that! Vacation's over, after all. I've heard that you...did exactly what I asked you to!

He gave me some chocolates as my reward for completing the mission. 😉

Tortimer: It's chocolates. Just a little something I brought back for you from the sun-drenched tropics.

Genji later offered me 1,530 bells for the chocolates, and I agreed to sell them.

Candi was in an igloo today, and she was talking about her chowder. She asked if the morsel of fish (in her chowder, presumably) had a lot in common with her.

Candi: Don't you think that morsel of fish and I have a lot in common?

After I shot her a confused glare, she said that she and the fish are both sweet and tender. Uhh, if you say so.

Emerald said that she was tired, and she asked me if she should go to sleep. I said yes, and she got furious! She thought I meant she should sleep out in the snow (which she does do sometimes anyway), and she took it as the biggest insult.

Emerald: You know, I'm not going to forget this! Someday, it's going to come back and haunt you!

And Emerald is usually one of the nicer villagers, too. Sheesh.

Last week, I posted this video of all 218 villager houses in the game. I hope you’ll give it a watch if you haven’t seen it yet. 🙂

One other note: I tried charging my Game Boy Advance SP so that I could visit the island, but it simply will not hold a charge at all. After 18 years, the battery is now completely dead. And I can’t just keep the system plugged in, because the GameCube-GBA link cable covers the spot where the adapter plugs in. So probably no more island visits for a while. I may get a new battery eventually, but it’s not a priority right now.

See you all next time! 🙂
