Elmer Returns

When I started up the game last night, I was happy to find that it was Derwin, not Rosie, who moved out of town.

Derwin's goodbye letter in Animal Crossing for Nintendo GameCube.

I started up a conversation with Candi, and she offered me some turnips for just three bells apiece. However, I knew she was lying and wasn’t really going to sell me any…so I declined her offer. She was glad to know I wasn’t one of those “greedy, turnip-trading types” (her words).

Candi: It's nice to know you're not one of those greedy, turnip-trading types!

She then admitted what I already knew (from seeing this dialogue before): That she didn’t actually have any turnips to sell.

Candi: I don't even own any turnips, to tell you the truth. Turnips are the root of all evil!

At Nookington’s, I bought myself a No. 1 shirt, and sold the zipper shirt I had been wearing.

Ursala asked if I wanted to her join her new football club, and I said yes. However, she said we now have two people…and need 20 more. Yeah, that’s not going to happen. 😛

Ursala: But we'll need twenty before we can start, right?

My new neighbor was Elmer the horse, although he was asleep in his house when I played. A few of you may remember him from GameCube Moments #3, when he fell asleep outside his house and I pushed him down the ramp (and he couldn’t get back up). 😂

But I played again today so that I could meet him and say hello. Despite that little prank ten years ago, I do like Elmer. He’s one of my favorite horses in the series.

Elmer: Um, just a sec... Yep, I've got nothing. I'll catch you later, tenderfoot.

Today is the last day of the month (April 30th), so Tom Nook was hosting a raffle. But I didn’t have any raffle tickets, so I couldn’t participate. And I couldn’t sell the fossils and fruit in my pockets, either.

Tom Nook: I just can't let you do this without five raffle tickets. You do understand, yes? I'm terribly sorry!

I asked Maple for a job a couple minutes later, and she politely told me she would like more flowers in front of her house. I blindly walked all the way up to Nookington’s and went inside, completely forgetting that today is raffle day. So I couldn’t buy any flowers for her. (And you can’t pick up existing flowers in this game).

Maple: I just wish my house had more flowers in front of it, honey.

I Dodged a Bullet

When I played briefly on March 5th, I got a goodbye letter from Valise. I only made a few stops, and didn’t make a full trip around town. So it didn’t even cross my mind to see who Valise’s replacement was.

Fast forward to today (March 30th), and I found a goodbye letter from Yuka!

Dearest Jeff! During my entire move, I was sure I was forgetting something. You know what it was? I forgot to say adieu to you. I hope this letter will ease your devastation...

So this was at least the third time she’s lived in Forest. But still, if she’s going to move in, this was the way to do it. Sneak in without me having to speak to her, and then quickly move out. I really dodged a bullet there! And now, I should have Yuka immunity for a few more years! Not bad.

The news got better when I saw that her replacement was Rosie! I like Rosie a lot, although her eyes do look a bit hostile in this pic.

Rosie: Rosie! That's my name, silly! No reason to beat around the bush!

She lives next door to Kody, another blue animal. He said he found a cow skull and asked if it was mine! Do I look like a cow that’s missing its skull?

Kody: I just found a cow skull... Is this yours, Jeff?

Of course I do, so I said yes. But he didn’t believe me, so he called me a liar. Why ask me if you already knew the answer?

Kody: Hey! Liar! LIAAAAAR! Don't you lie to me!

Several of my villagers were talking about an upcoming visit by Gracie, the fashion designer. Static is clearly not a fan.

Static: Look at me! Look at these clothes! Do you think I give a hoot about fashion? NO! Fashion's a waste of time.

I bought a speed sign at Nookington’s for 870 bells, and Ursala later wanted to buy it for 1,590 bells. Good deal!

Ursala: Only an utter moron would turn down that offer! So, I guess this means you're not a moron, unlike you.

Derwin, who moved into Forest in January, is still around. Although, he was convinced I was in an accident.

Derwin: I was convinced that you'd been in some kind of accident, derrrrr!

Tom and Hank had a fight over by the wishing well, but I assume they’ll be able to work things out. 😛

Dandruff’s Igloo

On February 1st, I played (briefly) and received Kitty’s goodbye letter. So her stay in Forest this time wasn’t nearly as long as last time. Her replacement was Bluebear, but Bluebear was already asleep for the night.

Fast forward to yesterday, and I got Bluebear’s goodbye letter. So she moved out before I even got to meet her. Oh well.

I asked Genji for a job, and he asked me to pick up a comic book that he lent to “Dandruff,” also known as Puck.

Genji: Nickname? Dandruff. 'Cause Puck's all about flaking. Thing is, I'm too busy to go get my property.

Puck wasn’t at home, but I found him in an igloo! The bad thing about that is that he only wanted to play igloo games! So I couldn’t complete my task because Dandruff was in an igloo with the comic book.

I still chatted with Puck a bit, and he said he was cold and he wanted winter to be over!

Puck: I wish winter would go away! I'm cold, and I want spring to hurry up...
But you’re a penguin!

When I spoke with Ursala, she… well, she was being herself. She wondered aloud how I spent the sunny day, and then backtracked. She said if she got me started talking, I’d be blabbing all night, and she sure didn’t want that.

Ursala: I bet you'd talk all night if you got started, unlike you, and goodness knows, I don't want that...
I wouldn’t talk all night anyway, especially to you!

Nookington’s had a retro TV for sale, and I couldn’t resist. The retro TV song is my jam. 😉

Timmy: Does a retro TV interest you?

I found a new house where Kitty lived recently, and Valise the snooty kangaroo is the new resident. While she is one of the 43 villagers that haven’t returned in later games, I can’t say the same about her time in Forest. That’s because this is a return visit. She previously moved in back in 2011!

Valise: Well, I had no idea you were such a little busybody!

Today (Sunday), I played again to get Genji’s comic book back from Puck. Fortunately, Puck didn’t send me on a wild goose chase this time, and he directly gave me the comic book.

Puck: Well, in any case, here's the comic book. Don't forget to return it, brrrrrrrrr!
Hey, there are flakes on this book!

When I found Genji and gave him the book, he rewarded me just with stationery. I should use it to write him a letter telling him how cheap he is. 😂

Belle was talking about how Forest would be cooler if there was a planetarium in town. She even went so far as to say that I should sell my house to build her one!

Belle: Listen, Jeff... I don't care if you have to sell your house to do it, but just build me a planetarium!
And I’ll use you for the “cow jumping over the moon” exhibit.

I recently posted a video combining the best scenes from my GameCube Moments series (episodes 1-10) and put them all together in one video. Here is the Best of GameCube Moments:

And just today, I posted a new entry into the series: GameCube Moments 15.

And last but not least, I recently posted a video taking a humorous look at what goes on underwater in the world of Animal Crossing. It isn’t just about the GameCube game, but it does include a look at the infamous whale. It’s a short video, so I hope you’ll check it out.

See you next time! Never Stop Crossing!
