Ohio Update

I’ll talk about my second town of Ohio a bit later in this entry, but first, here’s what’s going on in Forest: When I started up the game today, I got a goodbye letter from Axel in the mail.

Axel's goodbye letter.

It was raining in town, and the lousy weather put Emerald in a bad mood. She lost her will to do anything. You’d think a frog would like the rain, though.

Emerald: Now I've completely lost my will to do anything, and that is just sad, sproing!
Same.

Puck was talking about the fishing tournaments coming up in June. He’s hoping that baked beans will be the prize for the winner.

Puck: I really hope it's something like baked beans. That would be great...

Over by Maple’s house, I spotted a new house and animal: Tybalt the yellow tiger! I don’t recall having him before. He seems like a grrrrreat guy to have around town.

Tybalt: Hey! What's up? And nice to meet you. grrrRAH!

Not much else was going on in Forest today, but I do have other things to talk about. For one thing, I made this GIF recently that shows how to change the background of your inventory screen. I know it’s not a new tip or anything, and I’ve mentioned it before. But some people may not know about it…and a GIF is more effective at showing how to do it.

I’ve been playing in my second town of Ohio a bit lately. Since the town was overrun with weeds, I played after midnight several night until I was able to find Wisp. He wanted me to find all five of his kids spirits. So I hunted around until I caught them all. Wisp was clearly very grateful.

Wisp: Oh, thank goodness! You really helped me out! Thank you so much! For my reward, I told him to pull weeds. His mood quickly changed; he asked how I could let the weeds get so bad and he whined about how it would take him all night.

Wisp: Sigh... I'll probably be up all night picking weeds. Ugh...But it didn’t take him that long. All I had to do was save and quit my game, and then start back up, and they were gone. It took me longer to track down your little spirit friends than it did for you to pull weeds, so quit complaining!

Several days later, the condition of town had improved. While I didn’t reach perfect town status, I did get it up to satisfactory. And that was enough to reach 15 villagers, which is the maximum. Once I did, Tortimer showed up and offered to build me a third bridge. I didn’t like the first spot he suggested, but he told me I could try again any day but Sunday.

Tortimer: Oh! But I can't survey sites on Sunday! Why, that's a mayor's only goldurn day off, for crying in the soup! But a few days later, I found him in the spot I wanted, and I had him build the bridge. It’s still a bit tricky getting around, though. I’m not a big fan of the town layout.

Ohio’s current residents are Freckles, Stella, Aurora, Cleo, Leopold, Lulu, Cookie, Deena, Ursala, Chuck, Chico, Chief, Teddy, Yuka, and Nate. I may not keep up with this town on a regular basis, but I do like to check in on it every once in a while.

The Video

I’ve already mentioned this video in other places, but I’m going to mention it here too since it includes clips from this game. It’s called “What if Animal Crossing Sounded Like Star Fox 64?” and it features voice clips from SF64 humorously placed over footage of Animal Crossing and Animal Crossing: City Folk. Without further ado, here is the video:

Axel Arrives

Sunday was Mother’s Day, and I got this letter from Mom in the mail. She said she was in labor with me for 46 hours! Yikes! I guess that’s of the many downsides of having a huge head.

Like those fabulous, fun-filled 46 hours I spent in labor... You were worth every minute! -Mom
For her sake, I hope I wasn’t born with this viking hat on. Yeowch!

Even though it was raining, Gracie was in town looking for a car wash! It’s been a while since I’ve washed her car, but my quick index finger got the job done with a spotless wash. I’ve still got it!

Gracie: Time's up! HALT!

As a reward, Gracie gave me this orange pinstripe shirt that you can see me wearing here. Even though it’s kind of ugly, it was one of the few Gracie exclusive shirts that I needed for my catalog checklist.

Me wearing the orange pinstripe shirt I got from Gracie.Today, I got a goodbye letter from Billy in the mail. He even went so far as to say he’ll never be back! I believe him too; he’s as stubborn as a goat.

Billy's goodbye letter.

Belle told me that she started selling turnips under the table. She said she would give me 100 of them for just 1 bell each.

Belle: As a special offer, just for you, I'll sell some to you for 1 bells each, in a tutu!

I knew she wasn’t actually going to sell me any, but I played along. She then got mad at me for believing her.

Belle: What made you think I'd really sell you turnips for that price? You are SO gullible!

Up near Tom’s home, I found another house. It belongs to Forest’s newest resident, Axel the elephant!

Axel: I enjoy weightlifting and long walks by the dump. I also say WHONK all the time, WHONK!

When I visited Baabara in her house, she wanted to play a game with me. She had three bags: one contained a gray tartan, one had a peach, and one had a pitfall inside. She was only charging 470 bells to pick a bag, so I played along.

Baabara: The bags contain either a gray tartan, or a peach, or a pitfall.I picked the left bag and scored myself a pitfall. I later used it on Emerald. Nothing personal, froggy.

Emerald: Hick!

Windsock Season

Before checking my mail today, I headed up to Nook’s to sell some stuff that was filling up my pockets. On my way, I saw some windsocks near Candi’s house.

A windsock.

If you’re not aware, windsocks appear in various spots around town during the first few days of May. While there isn’t anything you can do with them, they are nice to look at. It’s one of the many seasonal touches (like the cherry blossoms in April) that provide some variety throughout the year.

After returning home, I received a goodbye letter from Tad in the mail. It’s too bad he hopped away, since I would’ve rather seen Betty fly the coop. But Tad was here for five months, which is pretty long for one of the two “temporary” villagers.

Tad's goodbye letter.

Today is also Spring Cleaning Day, and Mom sent me 1,000 bells in the mail.

I found 10,000 bells while cleaning your dad's desk. Here's your share. -Mom
So my share is only 10%? Thanks, Mom.

The villagers in town all mention Spring Cleaning Day the first time you speak with them. Puck asked me to clean his room for him! That’s not how it works, penguin.

Puck: Saaay... Why don't you come clean my room for me?

Genji got a little too excited for spring cleaning. Either that, or he’s dripping with sarcasm.

Genji: You been cleaning like mad or what? Spring Cleaning Day sure is a wiiiiiiild time!

Belle told me I should clean my house in a tutu! Uh, no thanks.

Belle: Even if you're a total slob-and-a-half, you should at least clean your house TODAY, in a tutu!
I only wear my tutu for REALLY special occasions.

I found Mayor Tortimer near the wishing well; he told me to take all my trash to the dump when I was done cleaning. He said that makes it easier for everyone to find the good junk, when it’s all in one location. Meanwhile, Static was spinning in the background.

Maybe Static was trying to spin dry his cherry shirt. Once he was done, I spoke with him and he told me that he’s the Spring Cleaning Day enforcer! Ha!

Static: Get to cleaning, Jeff! You'd best remember that I'm the Spring Cleaning Day enforcer around here!
And if I refuse, then what? You’ll dry my laundry?

On my way back home, I ran into my new villager: Billy the goat. Even though his house is near Maple’s home, he was hanging up north of Tom’s house. He seems pretty nice so far.

Billy: Uh... Have we met before, dagnaabit? 'Cause I don't remember you...

After a quick stop at the post office, I hung out by some windsocks for a couple minutes. Just so that I could make this GIF. Happy Spring Cleaning Day, everyone!
