First Bug-Off of 2018

The first Bug-Off of the year was held today, so I had a quick chat with Nat. He gave me a refresher on how the Bug-Off works.

Nat: And just to put some tea in the toaster, I'll give you a present each time you best the current high score!
Tea in the toaster? You’ll get electrocuted!

After I was done talking with Nat, Tabby happened to walk by. And sure enough, the stinky cat had a flea on her! I got my net out and caught the flea. That poor flea deserves better than to live its life on Tabby!

I caught a flea! Itchy itchy!

So I turned around and gave the flea to Nat. It only scored 4 points, which was well behind the current Bug-Off leader, Samson. Samson’s 56-point mantis was the bug to beat. But as I was still chatting with Nat, I noticed a butterfly fly by.

It was an agrias butterfly; I caught it and gave it to Nat as well. It scored 78 points, and put me in the lead! Nat gave me an exotic chair as my prize. It was kind of funny how each of those events just led into the next one.

Nat: And in return, I'll just help myself to your nice agrias butterfly. Yoink!

When I visited Drift, he told me he was too busy practicing with his extreme hockey team to clean up his house. He then asked me to slide my feet across the floor to pick up some dust. The problem is that his entire floor is all sand! I don’t think picking up some dust is going to help much.

Drift: Just slide your feet on the floor while you walk. Maybe you'll pick up some dust, tweedledee!

After making my rounds, I shut the game off for a while. But I returned after 6:00 p.m. to see the final results of the Bug-Off. My agrias butterfly held on to the top spot, and I won! I found my bug trophy waiting for me in the mailbox.

Nat: A 78-point agrias butterfly. By the king's crown! It seems that YOU caught this one!

When I was done, I switched to my two alternate characters (Guest and Scott) to clear out their mailboxes and check to see what they had in storage. I’m planning my next ACCF video, and I’m hoping to have it done in the next week or two.

Secret Patrol & Maple

Tonight, Static asked me to play a game of Secret Patrol. He really just meant hide-and-seek; I had to find the three crooks to protect the town. I agreed to play.

Static: Hey, J-rock, I know this great game I call Secret Patrol You ever heard of it, tweedledee?

He gave me 15 minutes to find him, Drift, and Midge. Whenever they give me 15 minutes, I like to take my time…and do my normal activities as I look. But I just happened to find Static almost immediately. He was hiding behind Scott’s house.

Static: There are others hiding! More than you know! We are legion, tweedledee! Or...we're...two.

I later found Drift hiding behind the museum.

With eight and a half minutes left to go, I found Midge behind Kabuki’s house to win the game. Static gave me a mini clankoid as my prize.

Static: Anyhoo, win you did! And since the odds were so insurmountable, I'll give you a mini clankoid!

After circling around town and speaking with Static again, he fell into a pitfall. It wasn’t one I planted. In fact, I didn’t even realize it was there until I heard him fall!

There was a new house next to my own house (where Champ recently lived). Maple the bear cub was inside. I’m actually not very fond of Maple in my GameCube town, but maybe I can get a fresh start with this Maple.

Maple: I just moved into town, and I really haven't had time to get settled yet. My name is Maple.

I realized I hadn’t dug up any fossils lately, so I made a thorough search around town. I ended up finding two of them. Along the way, I also caught a few summer bugs, including an emperor butterfly and this rainbow stag.

I caught a rainbow stag! Someone tell me, already! Where's the rainbow?!

The full slate of summer bugs won’t be out until July 1st, so this is just a taste of what’s to come later on.

Have a good weekend, everyone! If you’re looking for more Animal Crossing content, I recently put up a new video of Animal Crossing GameCube clips. If you’d like to check it out, here’s the link: GameCube Moments #10. See you next time!

Air Pollution

I received Benedict’s goodbye letter in the mail today. I’ll miss the guy.

Dear Jeff, It's almost time for me to leave Forest. 'Cause of you, every day I lived here was tons of fun. Thanks for everything! -From Benedict

I then changed into my Mario outfit again. Why? Hmm, maybe Mario just needed to use the phone and couldn’t find one in his own game. 😉

Near the museum, I shot down a balloon present. It contained a gas pump! How did that get up there?

A gas pump in my pockets.

The mayor (Tortimer, not me) must need to enforce some stricter laws about air pollution.

Even though I knew Benedict was gone, it still surprised me when I saw the empty spot where his house had been. He lived here for nearly two and a half years, after all. It was New Year’s Day 2016 that he moved in.

Well, at least I can fix my path back, I suppose. 😛

Over at town hall, I decided to make a new town tune. Since I recently replayed Luigi’s Mansion (on GameCube), I decided to use its theme. Luigi would hum the tune throughout the game, and it quickly got stuck in my head. 😛

Opal asked me to make a delivery to Drift, and the gift turned out to be a bad plaid shirt. Surprisingly, Drift really seemed to like the shirt. I then returned to Opal, and she rewarded me with a common floor.

Have a good weekend, everyone! See you next time!
