Pumpkins & Mushrooms

Yesterday was Halloween, and I actually decided to participate in the Halloween event in all four games that had it. In City Folk, I was able to use a bunch of leftover candy that’s been lying there on the ground since Bunny Day 2020. So I went around town, looking for Jack. I gave him candy, and he gave me spooky furniture in return.

Jack: Excellent! Thanks, pumpkin!

As you can see, I was wearing a witch outfit. 😛 Since it’s an official “look,” it counts as a costume…and I could trick-or-treat at the houses of indoor villagers to get additional candy.

Tom: Your costume is, uh, just the sort of thing I'd expect from you.
Are you calling me a witch?!

Outdoor villagers chase you in this game, but they’re not as fierce as on GameCube. So they’re not too hard to avoid most of the time. But it makes for a good screenshot when you’re being chased by pumpkin heads. 🎃

Jeff is chased by two villagers in Jack outfits on Halloween.

The spooky furniture is worth 10,310 bells apiece in this game, so it’s a nice chunk of change. I collected 11 pieces of it in all, so I made 113k. That’s not quite summer bug-hunt levels of money, but it’s just about the next best thing.

Today is November 1st, and that means that mushroom season is here. There will be several mushrooms around town. And one of them each day will actually be a piece of mush furniture.

I thought it was just a mushroom, but it was really a mush stand!

If you currently have perfect town status, you may find a rare mushroom buried in town. It’s worth 16,000 bells, making it more valuable than a coelacanth!

Look at that! I dug up a rare mushroom!

Rizzo asked me for a stupidly easy favor: He wanted me to deliver something to Goldie, who was standing just a few feet away. These are the best favors.

Rizzo: Sooo, go on and take this to Goldie for me, I'm a rat!

So I took the gift (a robo-floor) to Goldie, and Rizzo rewarded me with a toaster.

I recorded a few clips for an upcoming video today. It’s a video I’ve been planning for a long time, but the time has almost come for it. I’ll probably post it in a couple weeks or so.

A Whole Spaghetti

Saharah was in town tonight, and she was looking to recycle some old wallpaper.

Saharah: Others give you old wallpaper, and you give to me!

So I began asking my villagers for old wallpaper…but it was not going well. In fact, the first eight villagers I asked said no! Simon finally broke the trend.

Simon: You've got the right idea, Chill J! Recycling is good for the environment AND the soul!

With that wallpaper, plus two I had in storage, I was able to trade in for a new, rare wallpaper. Saharah gave me a tropical vista.

Saharah: Here...a tropical vista. Very exotic... Treasure it. It is a very rare thing.

It may be a rare thing, but not rare enough. I already had one in storage, so I didn’t see a need to keep this one too.

Of course, there was still one villager I hadn’t asked about old wallpaper yet. That was because Wolfgang locked himself out of his house (and lost the key)! Since not much else was going on, I decided to look for it. After 10+ minutes of fishing, I caught the key!

I caught a key! ...Whose key is this?

I took it back to Wolfgang, and he really appreciated it. He said I was the master of searching like he’s the master of…eating a whole spaghetti? Um, okay… 🍝

Wolfgang: You're like the master of searching! Like I'm the master of eating a whole spaghetti!

He rewarded me with 600 bells for helping him out. I was then able to ask him if he had any old wallpaper, and to my surprise, he said yes! So he gave it to me, and I put it into storage for next time. Helping him out really paid off this time!

An Elegant Gift

Mom sent me a letter in the mail, telling me that she sent Dad to bed without dinner. 😛

Dear Jeff, Your dad and I had a little spat, so I sent him to bed without dinner. Remember when I used to do that with you? It still works! -Mom

But the most interesting part is the gift she attached to the letter: It was an elegant mushroom, which sells for 10,000 bells! Wow, thanks Mom!

At the Roost, K.K. Slider performed Imperial K.K. for me.

K.K.: All right, get ready to dig the riffs on this ditty: Imperial K.K.

I took a bus ride out to the city, and I paid Katrina 100 bells to smack me over the head.

Katrina: YEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeee!
“I predict a headache in your future.”

She told me that something bad may be in my future, or it may not be. So helpful, as always.

Katrina: But remember... Even the most skilled swimmer may only swim where there is enough water.

When I returned to town, Simon told me that he recently competed in a race. Tom won first place, Big Top finished second, and then Simon was last. That’s pretty bad to lose a foot race to an elephant.

Simon: I was in a race a while ago. Tom came in first place, Big Top came in second place...

I shot down a balloon present and found a bass inside. The instrument, not the fish.
