Festivale, Apple Coffee

Monday was Festivale, so I just had to dance on over to the plaza and talk with Pavé.

Pave: Pave, Pave, he's our bird! He can do it! Spread the word!

He wanted some feathers, of course, so I kept an eye out for them as I played. My villagers were dressed up for the occasion too, and they were so cute! Especially June.

June: Now that you've arrived, we can truly start the celebration.

After making my rounds, I turned in my feathers for Festivale items. But the dancing peacock still needed more, so I repeated the process of hunting for feathers.

After I redeemed enough feathers for nine Festivale items, Pavé asked for three rainbow feathers. I already had two of them by that point, and an additional trip around town didn’t yield any more. So I crafted one (using the other feathers) and handed them over for a Festivale float. These things are so cool!

The Festivale float in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

I stopped trading in feathers once I earned that. But before I ended my session, I also spotted the famous (or infamous) Raymond on Forest! However, he wouldn’t even turn to face me as I introduced himself! How rude!

Tourist: Hey, you're from this island, aren't you? Enchante. The name's Raymond!

On Tuesday, I ran into a previous villager, Tia the elephant! It’s so good to see her again!

Tia: Thanks for saying hello. I'm so glad you remembered me.

I know the novelty of having tourists around will eventually wear off, but for now, it’s still a thrill to see former villagers and other animals I like. 🙂

On Wednesday, the robotic octopus tourist Cephalobot was enjoying some coffee at the Roost. But he told me something surprising. He claimed Forest coffee has a hint of apple! I hope that’s not true, because it doesn’t necessarily sound very good. 😛

Cephalobot, at the Roost: Forest coffee has a hint of apple.

I do like Cephalobot, though, and I wouldn’t mind having him on my island at some point!

On Thursday, I led the tourist Kody (one of my GameCube buddies) to the hotel. That earned me 2,000 Nook Miles for taking my 10th tourist to the hotel. That completed the “Take Tourists to the Hotel” goals for me. That is the first of the three new 3.0 goals that I’ve completed.

Take Tourists to the Hotel: Complete!

Yesterday, I found Pascal while diving. He popped up to tell me that making friends is like making music…wrong notes and all. 🎶

Pascal: Makin' friends is a lot like makin' music. It's a soundtrack for your life, maaan, wrong notes and all.

I’ve always thought oarfish were fairly rare…but last night, I caught four of them in a ten-minute span! I was shocked! But I’ll gladly take them. 😆

I caught an oarfish! I hope I catch morefish!
Narrator: He did catch morefish!

Tonight, Bones and June joined me for a K.K. Slider performance of “K.K. Ragtime.” I know it as the “knock me up” song, because that’s what part of the chorus sounds like he’s saying. 😆 It’s not a bad song, though.

June, Bones, and Jeff (wearing Majora's Mask) enjoy a performance by K.K. Slider.

Here are a few other quick notes about this week:

  • On Thursday, I played a treasure hunt game with Static. I won an instant-muscles suit.
  • Colton the horse was camping at the campsite, but I didn’t ask him to move in.
  • I helped out Gullivarrr find his communicator, and he sent me some pirate pants yesterday.
  • Last night, Bones asked me to catch an olive flounder for him. (That’s actually why I was fishing and found all the oarfish I mentioned above.) Once I caught the olive flounder, he gave me a plain do-rag for it.

Yesterday, I posted an updated version of Ultimate Quick Comparisons that compare and contrast the five core Animal Crossing games. It reflects the changes made in ACNH Version 3.0, and of course I’ve added some new comparisons too. Check it out!

Old Friends and Enemies

On Monday (Feb. 9th), my old friend Puck showed up as a camper at the campsite! I really like Puck as a character throughout the series, but something about his design in New Horizons doesn’t seem quite right.

Puck, at the campsite: What's the island specialty? Fruits? Fish? Shellfish? Fishfruit? Fruitshells?

In the older games, his helmet kinda looks like it’s his head. And here, it’s very clearly a helmet…and his pink skin seems more prominent and noticeable. Maybe it’s just because I’m so used to seeing him on GameCube for so many years, but it doesn’t fully look like him to me. I did not ask him to move in.

I’ve submitted 300 DIY goods now, earning me the 4th (of five) stamps on the “DIY Goods Wanted” Nook Miles goal. But I still need to submit about 200 more (for a total of 500) to complete the final goal.

DIY Goods Wanted! 301/500

I tried out a new feature of Version 3.0 where Isabelle can suggest a town tune. (Thanks again for the tip, Joshua!) Even though I didn’t use her choices, I think it’s a great feature (much like La-Di-Day in Wild World) that gives you new options for town tunes without requiring you to manually enter in notes.

Isabelle: You want to know what tune I'd suggest?

Nintendo posted a photo of a Game Boy standee design on Twitter, and I decided to download it and display it in my town. If you want it too, the code is MO-VVQ5-GW6D-1X5D.

Majora's Mask peers through a Game Boy standee, which sits among three snowboys (snowmen).

On Tuesday, Mint was in town as a tourist. She was sitting on the Big Man bench eating a sandwich. So cute!

On Wednesday, a former villager showed up as a tourist: Claudia the tiger! I know she wasn’t my favorite, but I eventually felt like I let her go too soon. She was only in Forest for about a month, after all. I could’ve at least earned her photo first, but I didn’t.

Claudia: I thought I'd drop in and see who still lives here that I can reminisce with, ooh la la.

She was wondering who still lives in town that she’d remember, and only two of my current villagers were here back then: Louie and Agent S. I could just imagine Claudia catching up with them (Agent S in particular), just gabbing and laughing about the old days with Rizzo, Tia, Hornsby, and Apple.

I found a scallop while diving, so of course Pascal popped up again to ask for it. He told me that we need a new word to describe tasty leftovers, and he suggested “re-licious” for that word. 😛

Pascal: We need a new word to describe tasty leftovers. I think we should go with re-licious, maaan...

He gave me two pearls for the scallop.

On Thursday, I was surprised to see Isabelle telling me that Resetti was in town! She said he has a cheaper deal than usual, which was also a surprise. I didn’t know Resetti did discounts!

Isabelle: Our friend Resetti is here today, offering his Reset Service.

Moments later, I found him down on the beach. He was offering his Reset Service for just 30,000 bells, which is half the normal cost. That is a good deal, but I didn’t need the help.

Resetti: today, as a special deal from me to you, I'll do it for half the usual price: just 30,000 bells!

Interestingly, I noticed that Saharah was also in town. So Resetti’s presence doesn’t bump other characters from their normal days. That’s good to know.

One of my New Leaf enemies (Eugene) was in town as a tourist, so I showed him the Forest way of life. Stay out.

Eugene struggles to get out of a pitfall, as Jeff (wearing Majora's Mask) watches on.

Yesterday, Static asked me for a new catchphrase to replace “in my tail.” I told him to say “or I will” instead. I could imagine him using it after telling me to do something unpleasant, like “Go clean up your trash, or I will.” But he hasn’t used it in any interesting ways just yet.

Today is Valentine’s Day, and I received valentines in the mail from all my villagers and Isabelle. They sent me a lot of chocolate! 💖

I also went up to the Roost for another Valentine’s Day tradition that’s been around since City Folk: Brewster served me some hot chocolate instead of coffee. Sweet! ☕

This hot chocolate is warming my heart...

Deirdre the deer was camping at the campsite today. She’s nice, but I didn’t invite her in.

Deirdre, at the campsite: I kinda came out here on a lark, but this place seriously rocks. I'm in love, whatevs!

Here are some other quick notes about this week:

  • On Tuesday, I sold 21 bugs to Flick for 99,750 bells.
  • I caught a dab for Static on Wednesday, and he rewarded me with some simple sunglasses.
  • On Thursday, I returned a lost item to Bob. He gave me a snowy knit cap as a thank-you.
  • Yesterday, I sold 27 fish (mostly sturgeon and football fish) to C.J. for 286,800 bells.
  • I led two tourists to the hotel this week: Jacob on Monday and Teddy today. They both got standard rooms.
  • I returned a lost journal to Merengue and she handed me a raincoat.
  • K.K. Slider performed “Wandering” for me and Louie tonight. I wish tourists could sit and enjoy the concerts!

I posted the latest New Horizons Moments video this week. I hope you’ll check it out!

Happy Valentine’s Day! I’ll see you next time! 💌

Update: I’ve added a new page where I’ll answer some common Animal Crossing questions. It may be more helpful for new players, but I also have some of my catchphrase ideas on there too. Check it out: Animal Crossing Q&A.

Tabby Tourist

Last Monday, June asked me for a new catchphrase to replace “in snow.” I’m a bit tired of winter and snow myself, so I decided to look forward a bit. Her new phrase is “in spring.” Hopefully we’ll get there soon. 😛

June: Thank you so much! I feel like I've discovered a whole new side of myself, in spring.

Because of all the crafting I’ve been doing lately (for the donation box submissions), I’ve also started going to Kapp’n’s islands again to stock up on materials. Believe it or not, weeds are one of the materials I’ve been frequently running out of.

Me wearing Majora's Mask on Kapp'n's boat.

On Tuesday, I ran into another unwanted tourist in Forest: Tabby! She even called herself a gorgeous tourist! Wow.

Tourist: Despite appearances, I'm not an A-list celeb, but a gorgeous tourist by the name of Tabby!

Of course, I just had to pitfall her. She almost dropped her sandwich. 😛

Tabby falls into a pitfall while holding a sandwich.

On Thursday, Klaus was camping at the campsite for the 4th time. I keep getting ugly campers and they keep coming back again and again. 😛

Klaus, at the campsite: Ahoy. Klaus is my name, and traveling, making playlists, and dance are my passions three.

On Friday, Pascal popped up after I caught a scallop. He told me he had a nightmare that a scallop was eating him!

Pascal: I had a nightmare once that a scallop was eating me. But when I woke up, I thought about it, and...fair play.

Over the past week, I’ve led three new tourists to the hotel: Bluebear, Anchovy, and the super cute duck, Molly. 😍

Standing with Molly at Leila's desk at the hotel.

I’ve put them all in standard rooms. I know I’ll need to design more rooms at some point, but I’m not in a rush right now.

Yesterday, one of the bonus items at the shop was a pile of cash! I decided to make one to see how much it would sell for. It requires three 99k bags of bells to make it (297,000 bells). I crafted it and took it over to Timmy and Tommy. But even with the double bonus price, it sold for…297,000 bells. So all I did was break even. 😛

Timmy: A pile of cash! I'll give twice the usual amount, so... 297,000 bells. Is that OK?

I suppose it would be a different story if you had the bell boom ordinance. And that would work particularly well now that we can multi-craft items. But in my case, there was no benefit.

Today, Static was sick with a cold. I used his own workbench to craft him some medicine (using materials from my storage). He took the medicine and started to feel better right away. He thanked me and gave me a patchwork tulip hat.

Here are some other quick notes about the past week:

  • I returned a lost item to Kid Cat last Tuesday, and he thanked me with a peacoat.
  • C.J. was in town, and I sold him 32 fish for 251,250 bells.
  • I recovered Wisp’s spirits for him, and he rewarded me with a bathroom sink.
  • I helped out Gulliver on Wednesday, and he sent me an elder mask.
  • Friday, I played a treasure hunt game with Bob. I found the item in time, and I won a pleather trench coat.
  • I returned a lost book to Ankha, and she said I should have some head bandages! 😛
  • Last night, K.K. Slider performed “K.K. Flamenco” for me and Bones.

See you next time!
