Dr. Shrunk’s First Appearance

Last night, I noticed that Tom Nook was sighing and acting strange went I went into Nookington’s. I asked him what happened, and he basically admitted that all he thinks about is money, and how to make more of it. But he said he’s okay with that, because he feels that it’s his job to show young people how hard life is! Wow.

Tom Nook: I like to think that it's my job to show you young people how hard life is!He’s trying to justify his greed, and yet the sighing indicates he feels a bit bad about it perhaps? Maybe this is the start of Tom Nook’s backstory, much like the Sable and Blathers backstories I’ve already seen? We’ll see. I’ll keep you updated.

Anyway, I donated an ankylo skull to the museum, and it completed the fossil of the ankylosaur!

The ankylosaur fossil in the museum of Animal Crossing: Wild World. The new message of the week on the bulletin board warned not to believe stereotypes. Some wrestlers hate tights! 😛

*Message of the Week* Some wrestlers hate tights. Fight stereotypes!Today, I dug up three more fossils. Two of them were returned to me, but the third one was new…dino droppings! Blathers was more than happy to hold onto the droppings, and he asked permission to keep them. Sure thing! I’m glad to dump off my finds here. That wing of the museum might need some air fresheners though, eh wot?

Blathers: Yes. Hoo. Indeed, what we have here is, quite simply, some dino droppings. While I was at the museum, I went downstairs to the Roost for a hot beverage. As I drank my coffee, I discovered that Brewster does not celebrate Valentine’s Day in Animal Crossing: Wild World. In City Folk and New Leaf, Brewster would give you hot chocolate for the holiday instead of coffee. But as far as I can tell, Wild World doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day in any way. I didn’t even get any Valentine’s letters in the mail.

When I visited Puddles, she told me she was working on a crossword puzzle.

Puddles: Right now, I am just ROCKING this crossword puzzle! I am the SMARTEST!

She asked me to help her out with a word she was stuck on, and from the list of options, I chose the word “crumble.” Apparently that was right, because she started acting very happy.

After shaking some trees (and getting stung by a bee), I was very surprised to see Dr. Shrunk walking around town! Not only because I hadn’t seen him in Wild World yet, but also because he doesn’t just walk around town like this in the other games.

The traveling therapist and part-time comedian started lecturing me on mental health and telling me I had some issues to work out. Rude.

Shrunk: All of our sessions are subject to doctor-patient confidentiality! He told me how important it is to express my feelings…before telling me to tap him.

Shrunk: Regardless, don't be shy! Go on, tap me!Once I tapped that axolotl, he taught me the shyness emotion. I can use it by tapping the appropriate icon on the keyboard window.

The shyness emotion icon on the keyboard menu in Animal Crossing: Wild World.Emotions aren’t super useful when there’s no online play, but I suppose it was nice to see Dr. Shrunk again.

At town hall, I made a 45,000 bell mortgage payment. I then continued shaking trees as I made my way back home. I got stung a couple more times, but I also found several bags of bells and a couple of furniture items: a beige box and a basic blue bed. That’s a lot of Bs. And bees.

Chilly Tortimer

The Bright Nights are still underway, with villagers’ houses (and some cedar trees) still decorated with lights. Static told me that his lights look totally professional.

Static: My lights are totally professional, unlike you!As far as I could tell, the lights on the houses were the same as last time. So I went ahead and told Tortimer that I preferred Rod’s house lights. He said he would let Rod know.

Tortimer: Nice lights, I'll say... Just a little compliment from a gracious mayor... Heh heh!I found three fossils buried around town, and the museum needed two of them. In fact, they both completed a dinosaur on exhibit! The stego tail completed the stegosaurus, and the ptera left wing completed the pteradon. Here’s a look at the pteradon.

A completed pteradon in the museum of Animal Crossing: Wild World.I visited Puddles the frog, and she was all packed up and ready to move out of town. I tried to change her mind, and I think I did, but I’m not 100% sure. She was worrying about a cancel penalty. Oh, is there such a thing? If only I was the mayor, I could cancel the cancel penalty. 😛

Puddles: What am I supposed to do about the cancel penalty, splish? When I visited Chevre, she offered me a spare mummy shirt she had. Do I have to unwrap it? I accepted, and put it on.

Who’s your mummy?

I went to the Roost to check out some live music. But I accidentally said that I wanted to request a song, and I couldn’t back out of it. I requested “Two Days Ago,” and K.K. gave me the aircheck when he was finished. Unfortunately, that’s a song I had already received. Oops.

Back over by town hall, Tortimer was shivering in the cold night air. He said that one shell isn’t enough to keep his body warm. He would prefer to also have one in front, and two on his feet.

Tortimer: You know, sprout, one shell is hardly enough to keep a body warm.I wrapped up my night by shaking some trees and doing some fishing. I didn’t catch anything new, though. See you next time!

Bright Nights

As I started up the game tonight, I was informed that Bright Nights are underway. Yay! 🙂

Hey, everybody! The Bright Nights are here!I caught a glimpse of lights on Kiki’s house, but I quickly headed over to town hall. This was my first time experiencing Bright Nights, so I wanted to chat with Tortimer to hear what it was all about. I figured he would explain what’s going on.

He asked me if the lights were gorgeous or lame, and I said they were gorgeous. He then asked me which house looked the best.

Tortimer: Then perhaps you could tell me which house looks BEST?

I hadn’t seen a good look at any of them yet, so I wanted to decline the question for now. But there was a problem: I couldn’t exit out; Tortimer forced me to pick someone. So I picked Kiki, figuring I could probably change it later (like you can change your mind during La-Di-Day).

I began my walk around town to look at all the lights. Many of the cedar trees have lights on them (much like on New Year’s Eve), and all of the villagers’ houses are also decorated, whether they were home or not. It’s like Christmas in February! 😛

The lights may be on the front of the house, the fencing around the house, and/or the roof of the house. The lights even made Yuka’s house look nice!

Yuka's house decorated with lights for Bright Nights.Static, who still lives in Forest after a close call last time, was standing near town hall. He was boasting about how great his lights were.

Static: My lights are awesome, huh, unlike you?I checked the bulletin board, and a notice mentioned that the Bright Nights run through next Monday. But another post, the message of the week, was more interesting. It said you only get one first chance…unless you have amnesia. 😛

*Message of the Week* You only get one first chance. Unless you have amnesia! All of the houses looked nice, and it was hard to decide on a winner. Here’s a look at Puddles’ house.

Animated GIF of Puddles' house during Bright Nights. After I circled around town once, I noticed that animals were talking about Kiki’s house. Apparently, the word has spread about my initial decision. Static said he wanted to go check out Kiki’s lights for himself.

Static: I hear they're not too pathetic, unlike you.
Why did I save you from moving?

Ultimately, I decided that Rod’s house was probably the best. I chose it not just because of the house, but also because there was a decorated tree out front. Even though that was just a coincidence.

Rod's house lit up with lights for Bright Nights. A cedar tree out front is also lit up.So I went back to Tortimer, but there was another problem. I was not able to tell him my choice again! Apparently, the answer you give him when you first speak to him is final. That’s an odd decision by Nintendo. He should have said something like “go check out all the lights and then come back to tell me your favorite.”

I guess that message of the week was more applicable than I realized. Oh well. At least now I know what to do next time. Enjoy the win, Kiki.

Tortimer: You don't happen to have a little crush on Kiki, now do you?
Oops. Is it that obvious?

I went inside town hall to make a 30,000 bell mortgage payment, and then I went home for the night.

Bright Nights is pretty cool, and it’s probably my favorite Wild World exclusive event so far. I would love to see them bring the decorated houses to other games in the series, whether it’s for Bright Nights or just during the holiday season.

If you have Wild World, you have until Monday, February 13th to check out Bright Nights for yourself. Just remember not to talk to Tortimer until you’re done seeing all the houses. 😉
