Summer Solstice

Today is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year! The game celebrates the occasion in an unusual way: The sun doesn’t set all night! I really wish they would just make days longer in summer instead of just putting all the extra daylight into one day, but it does make for a unique night.

Isabelle: Hello, Mayor! Today is the Summer Solstice, so don't expect to see the moon at all tonight!Isabelle acts as the Tortimer of old, giving out gifts on holidays and special occasions. Today, she gave out ladder shades.

Me wearing the ladder shades I got from Isabelle during the summer solstice. The animals also talk about the occasion.

Molly: That means the sun won't set at all tonight! And I caught my first stinkbug today.

I caught a stinkbug! Yup, yup, that stinks all right! In Club LOL, Shrunk taught me the sleepy emotion. In other words…*YAWN*.

Shrunk: Have you heard? Yawns are contagious.Aurora was asking me some questions; when I was done, she said my key to happiness was raisin bread. She couldn’t be more wrong.

Aurora: According to your answers, you only need one thing to be truly happy. And that's...raisin bread!I tried to go work at the cafe again, but Brewster didn’t need my help today!

Brewster: Sorry... I don't really need any help right this moment...Later on, at 10:00, I opened my gate for Friday Night Forest. Nick came over…but we soon got disconnected. It was a different Nick from last week though. I reopened my gate, and Wendy came over, followed by Nick. But we soon disconnected again. I opened my gate for a third time; this time, Kyle, Dash, and Wendy came over.

Kyle, Dash, and Wendy join me in Forest. We first headed up to Main Street for some shopping.

Me and my visitors on Main Street. Wendy is entering the shoe shop Kicks.Next, we went into Club LOL for some dancing.

The four of us dancing at Club LOL.We stopped in the cafe, and then visited my house. Outside, the sun was still shining. Molly was busy doing her “business.”

Molly: All this extra daylight is making me very productive. I'm taking care of all kinds of business, agent #1!It was weird seeing fireflies in the sunlight.

Fireflies in daylight, thanks to the nighttime sunshine at the summer solstice. We soon headed out to the island. Interestingly enough, it was night on the island.

A dark sky on the island, despite it being the summer solstice. After some fishing and bug-hunting, we did a scavenger hunt tour and then returned to Forest. Even though I didn’t notice it earlier in the day, there was a cutout there to celebrate the summer solstice.

Using the face-cutout standee for the summer solstice. And somehow, I accidentally got pushed onto the edge of the town tree. And then I saw something that really surprised me! Once your tree is big enough to sit on the border of it, you are treated to a scrolling history of your town! Wow!

-The History of Forest- May 2nd, 2013: Mayor Jeff took office. May 4th, 2013: Tex moved to town.It tells the dates of when you started, when animals moved to town, when stores opened up, and how many visitors you’ve had. I was not expecting that at all. A nice surprise, for sure.

Of course, there’s always time for hammer fights.

Fighting with toy hammers.Around midnight, I ended the party multi-player session. Wendy wanted to see if her town tree was big enough to sit and see the town history, so she invited me over to try it out. Unfortunately, hers isn’t big enough yet. But we stopped to take a picture at her summer solstice cutout.

Me and Wendy poking our faces through the Summer Solstice cutout standee in her town. She also had some other visitors come to her town. James, Thomas, and Kyle stopped by at various points.

And I couldn’t help but notice that with this strange lighting, Isabelle resembled the Joker. I pointed it out and Wendy saw it too.
