I got a letter in the mail from Gulliver today. Even though I guessed his destination wrong yesterday, he still sent me a gift: a chocolate coin. I ate it up.
Katrina was in town, so I went to see her. She told me that zap boots were the key to unlocking good fortune.
Near the river, I heard a mole cricket. So I started digging holes, and I found it on my third attempt. I switched to my net and just barely caught it before it could reach the river. The game makes a reference to Resetti when you catch it.
It was well after 8:00, so I went up to Club LOL to watch K.K. perform. I asked for a random song and he sang Señor K.K. for me.
In the Dream Suite, Luna told me that Lauren from Itaport was my most recent dream visitor. Hi Lauren!
I went into my house, and in my sleek room, I found my missing monster mask! It was in a place that wasn’t quite visible by the default camera angle. It didn’t cause any problems on Halloween by not having it though, since none of my indoor villagers that night were scared of it anyway.
Aurora hollered out for me while I was in there. I went to my main room and she came in to visit. After talking to her a couple times, she gave me an alpine bed for free.
While looking through my storage, I saw three gold nuggets. I took them to Cyrus and he turned them into a golden wall. It was an item I already had, but thanks anyway, I guess.
I went fishing for a few minutes and I caught my first blowfish.
I went up the museum to donate it. Oh hootie hoo, it’s a blowfish. Blathers and that fish should start up a band. I know the perfect name for it…
While shopping at T&T Emporium today, I saw a harvest chair for sale. Apparently they’re selling harvest furniture in stores this year, just like they sold the spooky set in stores.
And up on the third floor, Gabi was hiding behind a sweets chair. She looked like she had seen a ghost. Or maybe her reflection.
Autumn-leaf chair DLC
While I was on Main Street, I went into the post office to check for this month’s DLC. The item for this month is an autumn-leaf chair.
This is what the autumn-leaf chair looks like:
Mushroom Season
November is mushroom season in New Leaf. I spotted this elegant mushroom in my town; it’s worth 10,000 bells.
I spoke with Big Top and he asked me to fetch Benedict for him. I was a bit surprised by that request, as I don’t recall anyone asking me to get someone else and bring them back before. But I found Benedict and had him follow me to Big Top’s house.
When we arrived, Benedict was a bit afraid that Big Top was going to chew him out.
But Big Top only wanted to return something he borrowed. Interesting. Why didn’t he just ask me to make the delivery? Maybe he doesn’t trust me. Is this because I accidentally opened his time capsule before? It’s not like I would have taken the item and defiantly hurled it into the ocean or anything. But at any rate, Benedict was relieved that he wasn’t in trouble.
Benedict then left, and Big Top rewarded me with a modern wood lamp. After that, I headed over to the cafe to work a shift. An out-of-towner came in for coffee that I recognized quite well from my City Folk town: It was Avery!
After I was done working, I saw a tent at the campsite. I already have the maximum of ten villagers, so I was hoping nobody I really wanted was inside. Fortunately, the camper was Ed.
Back outside, I found out that–just like in City Folk–one mushroom each day will actually be a piece of mush furniture. Today, I plucked a mush closet.
Eventually, I returned to the Emporium. Rolf was in the gardening section, telling me he can relax when he’s surrounded by plants…up a tree.
Missed Opportunities
Gulliver was down on the beach, so I used my megaphone to wake him up. He told me he was headed to a country that gets cold in the winter and is the home to the Nobel Prize. That wasn’t much to go on, and I didn’t know the answer. I guessed Switzerland, but I was wrong.
When I went back up the ramp, I saw Benedict over by the lighthouse. I heard the sound effect of a flea jumping on him, so I got my net out and caught it. He told me I could keep the flea as a present. Thanks, pal.
I then went diving in the ocean. After I caught a scallop, Pascal popped up and asked me for it. I agreed to give it to him, and he gave me a barrel in exchange.
While I was still out diving, I heard a balloon present flying overhead; it was a silver slingshot. But it was traveling out to sea, so I wasn’t able to shoot it down. All I could do was watch it sail on by.
Happy Halloween, everyone! Tammy moved into town today, so I went to go meet her. She came from the town of Granvale, which is the town of someone I StreetPassed.
To prepare for the Halloween festivities, I began trapping my villagers around 5:30 p.m. That was a very useful strategy in Animal Crossing: City Folk, and I was hoping it would be just as helpful in New Leaf.
As expected, outdoor villagers put on their pumpkin heads when the festivities began at 6:00.
They couldn’t chase me down because they were trapped. If you give them candy, they will give you hints about what the indoor animals are scared of.
It wasn’t long before I met up with Jack himself. The first time you speak to him, he just explains how it works.
You have to wear masks to scare the indoor villagers. But each of them will only be afraid of one of the six Halloween masks (werewolf hood, bug mask, mummy mask, ghost mask, skeleton hood, or monster mask). If you choose correctly, you’ll scare them and they’ll give you a lollipop. You can then give the lollipop to Jack for a piece of creepy furniture.
But if you guess wrong, they won’t be scared…
And then you’ll have to play a game with them, such as rock, paper, scissors. If you win the game, they’ll give you a piece of candy. You can give it to Jack for a piece of furniture (it may be spooky or creepy) or one of the six Halloween masks mentioned above. But if you lose the game, the animal will play a prank on you such as turning your clothes into patched clothes or giving you an old wallpaper/flooring, which is considered trash.
It took some hints from villagers and some trial-and-error, but I discovered that Tabby was afraid of werewolves, Molly was afraid of ghosts, Skye was afraid of mummies, and skeletons scared Rolf, Aurora, and Benedict.
But I’m a skeleton underneath!
Tammy, who was in the process of moving in, did not participate at all.
From down on the beach, I saw one of my trapped villagers and took a picture.
While I was out enjoying the festivities, I would hear, and shoot down, a balloon every now and then.
After playing solo for a while, I opened my gate and Wendy came over to visit.
I eventually completed my collection of creepy furniture. I actually played longer than I needed to, but I forgot that the creepy set only has ten items: eight furniture pieces, a wallpaper, and a carpet. The creepy furniture first appeared as DLC in ACCF, which explains why it’s not a typical furniture set.
Back For More
I took a break from playing, but I later returned when I realized I forgot to get a pumpkin head! You can get them from the outdoor villagers or Jack by refusing them candy and losing their games, while not wearing any headgear. There are several different colors of pumpkin heads, so I went around losing games on purpose.
Teddy thinks he’s playing a trick on me, but it’s actually quite a treat.
I then saw someone in a Phineas costume! Oh wait, it was actually Phineas. It turns out the balloons I shot down throughout the evening have qualified me for the silver Balloon Buster badge! I’m a balloon-popping monsterrrrr!
I then continued my quest to get a bunch of pumpkin heads.
I’m not sure how many colors there are in total, but I was able to get the regular orange ones (from Jack) as well as red, yellow, purple, and green. I turned my back room into a creepy room, and I displayed my pumpkin heads in there as well.
