Mmm Mmm Good

Last Tuesday (April 7th), I started up the game to participate in the Cherry Blossom Festival. But before I headed over to the wishing well, I checked my mail. I found a goodbye letter from Gaston. So long, my rabbity mustached friend.

Jeff, Sorry if this throws you for a loop, but I'm ditching this one-human town, and I may not be coming back. Thanks for being tolerable. Maybe we'll meet again sometime. Sincerely, Gaston

Sydney asked me to pick a hand, and she gave me a free pitfall. But she told me not to bury it anywhere, because no one likes a mischief maker. Well what does she expect me to do with it, then? That’s literally a pitfall’s only purpose!

Sydney: Please don't bury it anywhere, with wings! Nobody likes a mischief-maker!

Over at the wishing well, Hank and Ursala were seated at one table. Hank was trying to count all of the petals that have fallen. Unfortunately, he lost count at 1,984.

Hank: I just lost count of the petals that have fallen! Now I gotta start over!

Ursala said all the food was delicious, so she told me to eat up!

Ursala: Now, eat up, you! Everything's quite delicious, I promise, grooomph!

Genji and Kody were at the other table.

Kody: This festival rocks! We oughta do this every day, okey-dokey!

And Belle was the dancing fiend this year.

Belle: How's my dancing? Pretty pro-style, huh? It's definitely not for beginners, cuddles!

After I left the festival, I met Gaston’s replacement: Wart Jr. has popped into town. He may be ugly, but he’s toad-ally harmless.

Wart Jr: Anyway, I'm Wart Jr. It's a pleasure meeting you, grr-ribbit!

On my way back home, I caught a bee…right next to my own statue!

Jeff, standing next to his own statue: I caught a bee! Bzzz, bzz, bzz, bzzzzz!

I played again today, and Tom took notice of a cockroach I had in my pocket. He wanted it, and he offered me a peach for it! That’s a foreign fruit, so that’s a really good deal (for me). Not so great for him.

Tom: that cockroach! I've never seen one before... I'll trade you a peach for it. That sound fair?

He thought the cockroach was the best! But I do have to question his use of the word “mmm.” 🤔

Tom: This is so great! Mmm, this cockroach is the best. Thanks, me-YOWZA.

I found Gulliver down on the beach. He said he fell off his ship because of a pirate attack. Or sharks. Or…something. (Very convincing.)

Gulliver: What I mean to say is... It was pirates! Or sharks again... Something like that...

He gave me a shogi piece for “saving his life,” which was really just waking him up.

Up at the dump, I found a perfect painting and a new spring shirt. That sounded like an appropriate shirt to wear this time of year, so I decided to put it on.

I took the painting over to Tom Nook. But surprisingly, he only paid 490 bells for it.

I posted my latest GameCube Moments video today, #29! It contains highlights from December 30th through last week (excluding the spring sports fair, since I already posted that as a separate video).

Never Stop Crossing!

Aurora and Spring

On Thursday, I found a goodbye letter from Chevre in the mail. I’m sad to see her goat. I mean, go. 🙁

Dear Jeff, I know this is sudden, but... I had to leave the village. I don't know where I'm headed, but don't worry--I'll get by somehow. Thanks for all you've done for me! Farewell! -Chevre!

I also received a letter from Mom, saying she would actually pay ten bells just to be able to sleep in later! Aww, you go ahead and sleep in, Mom!

My dear Jeff, There's an old saying that you can save three bells by waking up early, but me, I'd pay ten just to be able to sleep late... I do love my beauty rest! Time is money! -Mom

I found Chevre’s replacement, and it’s the very cute Aurora! She lived in Forest before back in 2013. Welcome to Forest, Aurora!

Aurora: Oh, hello. My name is Aurora. How are you?

When I ran into Tom, he was telling me about the sports fair. Interestingly, he called the third event a bean-bag toss, when everything else I’ve seen refers to it as a ball toss.

Tom: It starts with tough aerobics, then they have foot races, a bean-bag toss and a tug-of-war!

On Friday, I participated in the spring sports fair…attending all four events! I won’t detail everything here in the blog, because I’ve posted a video of the event, which you can check out here:

But I will point out one thing that I thought was particularly amusing: Gaston was doing some trash talking, saying that his race opponent had chicken legs. And his opponent actually was a chicken…Hank! 😆

Gaston: If that's my opponent, my victory's a complete lock! Look at those chicken legs!

Kody was talking about groundhogs, and how he had wanted to catch one for years.

Kody: I wonder if any groundhogs have come above ground yet... You seen any of those little dudes, okey-dokey?

But then he seemed to realize that his idea didn’t make much sense. 😆

Kody: I've wanted to catch one for YEARS, okey-dokey! Although...what would be the point of doing that?

Today, Maple told me how much she loves this time of year.

Maple: I love this time of year! The buds on the trees and flowers on the ground are starting to open up!

She’s particularly looking forward to the cherry blossoms that will start falling from trees in early April. Me too, Maple. 🌸

Belle asked me to buy her violin for 2,660 bells. I declined, and she then offered a cabana lamp for 2,000 bells. I wasn’t interested in that either, so Belle got mad and wondered how she was going to carry both items all the way back to her house. Of course, we were standing right outside her house at the time.

Belle: How am I supposed to carry them both back to my house, cuddles!?

In other news, Ursala called me a slob. Why do I put up with these animals? 😛

Ursala: Hey, you're such a slob! Don't you ever clean your house, grooomph?

That’s all I have for now, but I’ll be back again in April. Never Stop Crossing!

Gaston: Finished already?

Gaston, Green Grass

Yesterday, I received a goodbye letter from Oxford the bull in the mail. I’m totally fine with him moo-ving on.

Dear Jeff, Well, my streak continues... I just can't seem to settle down in any town for long. This is kind of odd, because I've said so many goodbyes, but this one actually hurts... Goodbye... -Oxford

Moments later, I met his replacement: Gaston the rabbit!

Gaston: Hey! Who are you? I certainly don't know you! Hmmm... Jeff??? Nice name, mon chou.

I know he may not be one of the cutest animals in the game, but I like him anyway. He’s just a classic cranky.

Interestingly, he has not lived in Forest in the past 15 years (since I started this blog). I probably had him at some point prior to that, but he was certainly overdue for a stay in town. Welcome to Forest, Gaston!

Over by the wishing well, Ursala wanted to play a game with me. She had three bags, all of which held items that start with the letter “P.”

Ursala: The bags contain either a polar fleece, or a pear, or a pitfall.

She said I could pick a bag for 1,000 bells, and I agreed to play. I picked the left bag, and I won a pitfall. That’s what I wanted! It’s always good to have one on hand, although Ursala didn’t do anything to deserve one on this day. 😛

Ursala: It's a pitfall! And here you go.

Kody let me know that Gracie would be visiting town soon. Except he did it in his own, oblivious way. Kody doesn’t seem like the smartest cub in the cave, but I like him anyway. 😛

Kody: Dude, there's this giraffe chick who comes here every now and then. I hear she gives you clothes.
Kody: What was her name again? Grape juice!

I played again today (February 25th), and the snow of winter has now melted! Yay! Here is a GIF showing the difference between yesterday and today:

On the bulletin board, I saw a notice about a treasure hunt. A pop machine is buried somewhere in one of the A acres!

Get in gear! It's time for a treasure hunt! I buried a pop machine. It's somewhere in one of the A acres. I ain't saying no more. Find it for yourself!

I ended up finding it behind Nookington’s, literally in the corner of town. I wasn’t exactly bubbling with excitement, but I’ll take it! 🥤

Check it out! I dug up a pop machine!

I then went from a pop machine to a pop quiz. Tom asked me which aquatic creature couldn’t be caught in town: a colored carp, a snapping turtle, or a piranha.

Tom: Which one of the follow aquatic creatures can you NOT find in this village? Colored carp, snapping turtle, piranha.

I didn’t remember a snapping turtle being in the GameCube game, but I knew there wasn’t a fish called a “colored carp” either. Seems like a trick question. I chose colored carp…and I was wrong. Tom told me I get nothing, and said I’ll like it. 😆

Tom: You'll get nothing and like it.

I guess he meant a carp that is colored (like a koi perhaps) and not a fish specifically called a colored carp. Oh well. 🤷

When I walked by Candi’s house, she quickly ran inside…seemingly to avoid me. So I chatted with her neighbor Chevre instead. But as we were chatting, the hourly chime went off…and Candi came right back out of her house! Just about 30 seconds after running in! I thought that was pretty funny, so it will be in the next GameCube Moments video.

That’s all for now, but I’ll see you all in March! Enjoy the start of spring and all the green grass that’s out now! Never Stop Crossing!
