Beetle Wrestling

I received Carmen’s goodbye letter in the mail today. She said it was time to move on, but where in the world was she moving to? San Diego, perhaps. 🌎

My dearest Jeff, I'm sure you've become an emotional wreck looking for me, but I'm gone now! I'm sorry I left without a word. It isn't like I don't like you. It was just time to move on. Fare thee well! -Carmen

Unfortunately, I couldn’t clear out my pockets at the shop. Today was raffle day, and I didn’t have any tickets for it. Based on the prizes, I don’t think I was missing out on much this time.

Raffle Day for July 2022

Maple was talking about summer being the best time to catch bugs, and of course that’s true. But I was a bit surprised when she seemed to endorse the practice of forcing beetles to wrestle each other! 😂

Maple: You can even catch beetles and make them wrestle each other, honey!

I actually caught a few tree beetles tonight, but I couldn’t sell them since it was raffle day. 😛 But that didn’t stop Genji from asking about one of them; he wanted it because he was hungry! 😮

Genji: What's that? A mountain beetle? Is that edible? Is it delicious?
I peaked his curiosity by telling him it has a range of flavors, but I think he knew I was bluffing.

Unfortunately, he didn’t want to buy it. He wanted to trade it for a shirt (a gray tartan). I was not interested, so he called me rude and then erupted in anger. 🌋

Belle asked if I was an early bird, and I said no. She said she’s not one either, so she basically laughed at all the suckers who do summer aerobics early in the morning. It feels like this is the first time Belle and I have ever agreed on anything, but that might be a stretch. 😉

Belle: Ha ha! Really? We have more in common than I thought! Those early birds can do all the aerobics they want!

When I spoke with Baabara, she had camping on her mind. When I told her I would like mac ‘n’ cheese while camping, she told me had her recipe for it printed in Animal Chef magazine! I wonder if that’s a true story, or if she’s just pulling the wool over my eyes.

Baabara: In fact, one of my recipes for it was printed last year in Animal Chef magazine, daahling!

I guess Animal Chef is another magazine in the Animal Crossing universe, along with Ms. Nintendique and Fauna. 😛

I found a new house in one of the free spots in Acre B-1. Carmen’s replacement is Portia the dog. That’s not a bad trade.

Portia: My, my, my, my, my. Hello there, ruffian.

She also lived in Forest a decade ago (in 2012). That’s more than 101 months ago! Actually it’s more like 127 months, but who’s counting? 😀 While Portia isn’t one of my favorite dogs, I do like her. Welcome (back) to Forest!

Bummer of Summer

I received a goodbye letter in the mail today, and unfortunately, it was from Rio (not Carmen).

Rio's goodbye letter to Jeff in Animal Crossing for Nintendo GameCube.

Candi had the “Nintendo Power maze” dialogue for me tonight. It’s the one where you have to pick left or right to help her get through a maze. It took me a whopping nine tries to get through it. This is one of the most annoying bits of dialogue in the entire series. And I don’t even get a reward for it. 😡

Candi: ...That's still not quite it, in my ears...

Dotty the rabbit has just moved into town. I found her fresh off an argument with another rabbit, Genji. In fact, Genji’s umbrella was slicing through my head as I spoke with Dotty. 😛

Dotty: Oh. Jeff, huh? Well, I'm Dotty. Now that we've met, does that mean we're friends?

Static asked me for a new catchphrase to replace “krzzt,” so I told him to say “get zapped” instead. He then complained about the heat, saying that it was the one bummer of summer.

Static: You could say heat is the one bummer of summer...if you wanted to sound like a complete dork, that is.
Well, you said it, so…

Maple asked me to get her a pear to snack on, and I agreed to help out.

Maple: Let me think... Oh! Well... It's not like I have to have it, but I sure wouldn't mind a pear to snack on.

After fetching a pear for the bear, she rewarded me with 527 bells. That’s a whole 27 bells more than Tom Nook pays. Now I’m rich! 🤑😂

Carmen was talking about how much she loves summer, especially with the fireworks festival coming up on Monday night.

Carmen: Seriously, though, I just love the summer... Beaches, sunbathing, and fireworks, bumpkin!

As I walked around town, I noticed a lot of arguments going on tonight:

  • Dotty and Genji
  • Belle and Ursala
  • Puck and Genji
  • Hank and Baabara

And of course, most of them took out their anger on me, even though I had nothing to do with it. 😛

Ursala: OOOHH! You... You make me soooo MAD!!!

I wish this game had more pitfalls, so that I could give them a reason to be angry. 😂

See you all next time!

Jeff the Fruit Smuggler?

I got some good news in the mail today: Tabby has left town! 🙂

Guess what, Jeff! I realize this is a little cuckoo, but I've decided to move. Have I lost it? No!!! I've just got to try to get a fresh start. I don't even know where I'm going yet! See ya! -Tabby

When I ran into Genji, he reminded me that the fishing tourney is coming up soon. Actually, a bunch of fishing tourneys are coming up: One is held every Sunday in June. (The same thing happens in November, too.)

Genji: Once we get into June, there's gonna be a fishing tourney each and every Sunday, Jeff.

Puck was also talking about the tournament, and he warned me that he views me as a rival until he wins.

Puck: Just so you know, until I win that fishing tourney, you and I are rivals!

Carmen was nagging me about paying back my debt to Tom Nook. She even called me a burden to society! 😮

Carmen: You seem to be a little touchy, Jeff! I guess you're still just a burden on society!

Time to go buy a mousetrap.

I found Gulliver washed up on the beach, and he gave me a Chinese lion.

Gulliver: Yawn... What a great nap! What!? It's 2022?

I visited Tom, and he wondered where I had been lately. So naturally, he assumed that I got arrested for smuggling exotic fruit. 😂

Tom: In fact, I had convinced myself that you'd gotten busted for smuggling exotic fruits, okey-dokey.

That actually reminded me of New Leaf, when Squishy used to bring her oranges to my town to sell them for a better price. I joked that she was smuggling oranges. 🍊

In the southwest part of town, I found Tabby’s replacement: It was Rio! She’s my favorite ostrich, and I almost added her to my New Horizons island recently. But I’m glad I got her here!

Rio: My name's Rio. So, like, what's yours?

Unfortunately, she didn’t wait long to ask about my Chinese lion…under the guise of recycling.

Rio: It's very important to recycle! You can't throw something away just because you don't need it anymore!
Rio: I see that you're not using your Chinese lion, li'l chick.

She wanted to trade it for a rose wall. Even though I didn’t want to stick my neck out, I declined the offer. But still, I hope Rio stays in town a while.
