Third Stint

On Monday, Pecan told me that it was her day to moisturize. She said if she doesn’t moisturize, she’ll look like a pile of dead leaves by Sunday.

Pecan: It's Monday, so that means it's time to moisturize! If I don't, I'll look like a pile of dead leaves by Sunday.

At 11 p.m., I went on my first proper bug hunt of the season. I recorded a gameplay video of the session, and you can watch that here if you’d like:

I played again tonight, and I was chatting with Scoot in his house. He told me that he asked Cube what his favorite food was.

Scoot: I asked Cube what his favorite food was the other day. Know what he said?

And Cube replied that frozen yogurt was his favorite! That sounds about right for the chilly penguin.

Scoot: ...Frozen yogurt! Kinda figures, huh, so scoot?

Sydney was feeling (down) under the weather tonight, so I gave her a dose of medicine. Get well soon, Sydney!

Rosie’s replacement has moved in, and it’s Peaches the horse.

Peaches: I just moved into town, and I really haven't had time to get settled yet. My name is Peaches.

Peaches is alright, but it is interesting to have her back again. That’s because this is her third stint in Forest! This 2011 blog entry talks about her return, and I mentioned that she was my first returning villager at the time.

Could she now also be my first three-time City Folk resident? I’m not sure about that, because it seems like I may have had other three-timers. But I can’t be certain, because I didn’t start this blog until 2011. Sure, I made sporadic videos, but I wasn’t documenting every villager that came and went back then.

Anyway, I went over to the Roost for K.K. Slider’s Saturday night show. I asked for a random song, and he performed “Senor K.K.” for me.

K.K.: All right, get ready to dig the riffs on this ditty: Senor K.K..

After that, I went on another mini bug hunt. I made around 120,000 bells before wrapping up my game for the night.

Lucky Sevens?

Wednesday was July 1st, and I received Rosie’s goodbye letter in the mail. I hate to see her go, but that’s how life goes in City Folk (and Wild World). You can’t help but lose villagers sometimes.

Like, to Jeff, I'm gonna move. It's hard to leave, since we're BFFs and stuff... But I have a picture of you that I took when you weren't looking, so I'll never forget you! Like, from Rosie!

That night, I went on a short (30-minute) test run for bug hunting. I caught two sharks, and a staggering three golden stags in that span. I earned about 139k in that half hour or so. But more on bug hunts a bit later in this entry…

I played again today, and Willow sent me a letter in the mail. She is over her cold now, and she sent me a paulownia closet to thank me for the medicine. When I saw her in person, she said that anyone who’s anyone these days has a mosquito! Who knew a mosquito was the latest fashion buzz?

Willow: Anyone who's ANYONE has a mosquito! These bug fashions creep past so fast, it's hard to keep up!

It’s Apollo’s birthday, but unfortunately there are no birthday parties in this game. But at least he gets this notice on the bulletin board? That counts for something, right? 😆

7/4/2026 ~Happy Birthday~ Today is Apollo's birthday! Please wish Apollo well in this new year of life!

I helped him out by making a delivery to Pecan for him. Apollo then gave me a kiddie carpet. Happy birthday, Apollo!

Cube asked me for a fossil, so I gave him a dinosaur egg that I dug up today. Unfortunately, he only rewarded me with 520 bells.

Cube: Whoa... Is that thing... A dinosaur egg?!

I played again tonight, and I checked out K.K. Slider’s show at the Roost. He performed “K.K. Marathon” for me.

K.K.: All right, get ready to dig the riffs on this ditty: K.K. Marathon.

Okay, let’s talk about my summer bug-hunting goals for 2026. Last week, I mentioned that I finished June with 77,350,000 bells in savings. My summer goal has typically been to earn around 2 million bells by September 1st. Even though I actually made nearly six million last year, I’m going to stick with a fairly conservative goal of 2.65 million…so that my balance reaches 80 million. But again, there’s a decent chance that I’ll exceed it.

I went on another 30-minute mini-bug hunt tonight, earning about 146k. And even though I wasn’t going to give an update so soon, I just had to when I saw I was close to doing this:

Your current balance is 77,777,777 bells.
I had to go back out for a few more catches to reach it, but it was worth it.

I still haven’t had a full, proper, hour+ long bug hunt, but I’ll be sure to do that sometime next week. And yes, I’ll record a long gameplay session of it, too. So keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, check out my video comparing all five versions of Forest, if you haven’t seen it yet. It’s updated for July 2026, and includes a few categories that weren’t in the previous 2024 version.

Unfortunately, I didn’t catch a mosquito for Willow yet. Maybe next time…if she still wants it by then.

So Long, Cat!

When I started up the game today, I received a letter from Big Top, thanking me for the medicine I gave him last week. He sent me a red drum.

I was glad that the letter from Big Top wasn’t a goodbye letter. But I soon found out that another one of my favorites actually was leaving town: Rosie! 🙁

Rosie: Oh, J-love! I'm glad you stopped by...'cause I'm totally MOVING! So long, cat!

I hate to see her go. She has lived here for just over a year, but it seems shorter than that. So long, Rosie! I hope we meet again!

Big Top’s sickness has now moved on to Willow. I gave her some medicine too.

Willow: I feel chills, my throat hurts, my nose is stuffed up... I'm normally SO sweet, but now I'm a mess.
Aww. Get wool soon!

It was raining in town tonight, and I caught a couple of rainbow stags. I can’t wait for the peak bug-hunting season that starts next Wednesday, so I can catch all the good summer bugs! Woo!

I caught a rainbow stag! Someone tell me, already! Where's the rainbow?!

As for my villagers, they had a wide variety of opinions about the rain today. Cube loved having fun splashing around it!

Cube: Splashing around in the rain is pretty fun, huh!

While Sydney has just had enough of the rain already.

Sydney: On GameCube, Super J! You know, I've had enough of this rain. I hope it's sunny tomorrow.

Once 8:00 rolled around, I went over to the Roost to check out K.K. Slider’s Saturday night show. I asked for a random song and he performed “K.K. Etude” for me.

K.K.: All right, get ready to dig the riffs on this ditty: K.K. Etude.

After the show, I ran into Big Top just outside the museum. He said it would be nice for him to have a memento of me. So he asked if he could have my rainbow stag! I didn’t want to give it away for free, but I asked if he’d like to buy it instead. And he really came through: He offered me 14,038 bells for it! You got a deal!

Big Top: Hm... OK, will 14,038 bells do, in a coma? >That works!

Assuming tonight was my last time playing for the month, I’m ending June with 77,350,000 bells in savings. I haven’t yet set my summer bug-hunting goals for this year, but I’ll be sure to decide on that next week. I’ve also (finally) cleaned up my leftover candy on the ground from Bunny Day. So my town is all ready to start bug hunting!

See you next week! 🪲
