Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog

Hello, and welcome to my Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog! I'm Jeff and here you can follow along with my adventures in the game. Unlike other Animal Crossing games, Happy Home Designer does not run in real-time. So some blog entries will cover multiple game days. If you'd like, you can start from the beginning or just jump right in! At the bottom of the page, you'll be able to find links to all of the entries. Or read my review.

Day 85

Octavian was out on Main Street today, and he told me he wanted a place that shows his mastery over squid! Maybe he should just play Splatoon!

I decided to give him his very own island where he has plenty of access to water. Once we got to the property, I was surprised by the look of his house: It's splattered with ink and it really is a Splatoon-themed house!

As for the items unlocked with this project, some of them make perfect sense: The octopus chair, squid chair, and sea-anemone bed fit in well. But I'm not so sure about the others. A manhole cover? Well, I suppose that could be a reference to the manhole in Splatoon that connects Inkopolis plaza to Octo Valley. But as for the general's fan and the steamroller? I'm not sure how they relate to anything.

And then there's a flying saucer. I know Octavian has a flying saucer in his home in other Animal Crossing games. But when there are so many space-themed requests in Happy Home Designer, it seems odd that the flying saucer isn't included with one of those requests.

The chain-link fence was unlocked with this project but I decided to use the water floor and underwater wall. I gave him a whirlpool bath, a mermaid statue, a life ring, a modern lamp and blue wardrobe both customized with sapphires, and a variety of seashells. And to give it a nice, serene atmosphere, I used underwater sounds as the sound scenery.

Day 86

Today, Michael Jackson Olaf the anteater was on Main Street. He wanted to sleep in a luxurious room with a gorgeous view of the night sky.

Since he wanted a luxurious house, I gave him the golden exterior, roof, and door. A special event rug leads to the house, and it is lined with gold roses on both sides. It's too bad this game doesn't have golden trees like you could get in the GameCube version of Animal Crossing, because they would be a perfect fit. So I put in a couple of perfect-cherry trees instead. I also added a hammock; it's far from luxurious, but it does allow for a nice view of the night sky.

The only new piece of furniture unlocked for this project was the gorgeous bed. I already had a couple of other gorgeous items in my catalog, so I used them as well. I used a rococo floor and a lunar horizon wall to combine a bit of luxury with the night sky. Window curtains would just block the view of the real sky, so I removed them completely.

Olaf insisted on a whirlpool bath, so that took up a big chunck of the available space. But I included a couple of rococo items, including a sofa that faces the window. I really wish I had more of the gorgeous set available, because the mixing of rococo and gorgeous doesn't seem quite right. I'm not really happy with how this room came out; it might be a good one to redecorate in the future once I have a larger selection of items in my catalog.

It is a bit amusing that Olaf's tail goes through the sofa, though.

Even though this definitely isn't my best creation, I still uploaded it to the Happy Home Network. The project code is 0900-7715-579.

Thanks for visiting!
