First Rainbow!

It was raining in town yesterday, and Truffles told me that she’s not into water polo when it rains. That seemed like a weird thing to say, because she’s not into water polo anyway. But I’d think the rain wouldn’t bother you as much when you’re already wet. 🤷

Truffles: Helloooooo! Know what? When it's raining, I'm just not into water polo...

Whitney told me that her favorite thing about catching bugs is the bugs’ sound of defeat when she catches them.

Whitney: What I like best about bug catching is the sound of defeat it makes when I win.

I don’t know what to make of that. My villagers are weird.

Pippy wanted to have a contest to see who could catch a horse mackerel first, but the joke was on her…because I already had one.

Pippy: So, you gave me your horse mackerel, in a pond!

I gave it to her, and she rewarded me with a pastel dot wall.

Drift has still been sick with a cold this week, so I gave him some medicine yesterday and again today.

Drift: I live again! YESSSSSS!

When I started up the game today, I was met with quite a surprise: A rainbow!

A rainbow appears in the sky in Animal Crossing: Wild World (ACWW).

This was my first time seeing a rainbow in Wild World! I have now seen a rainbow in Wild World, GameCube, New Leaf, and New Horizons. But apparently I haven’t seen one in City Folk yet, as hard as that is to believe! At least I can’t find any screenshots of it, or mentions of it in my blog!

At any rate, I changed the Virtual Console screen settings to view this rainbow in standard DS mode as well:

A rainbow in Animal Crossing: Wild World.

The rainbow gradually faded as I played. I’m not sure if I got to see it at its peak or not, since it was already underway when I started up the game. But it was nice to finally see it in this game!

Anyway, Saharah was in town today, and she asked me to make some deliveries for her. I took carpet packages over to Mabel and Pelly for her. She rewarded me with an ancient wall.

Saharah: Done! It is finally done! Thank you so much for your help, friend!

Right after the rainbow vanished completely, I spotted a balloon present overhead. I shot it down, and I found a clothesline pole inside.

I listened in on a conversation between Pippy and Curt, and Pippy was singing a song. 🎶

Pippy: I love puppies! I love candy!
Pippy: (Maybe a little more than) I LOVE YOU!

But Curt was definitely not a fan. 😆

Curt: Ha! Laaaaaame! That song is lamer than a llama!

Pippy replied that the song was popular with the girls in town, and they both insulted each other’s taste in music. But the conversation left them both feeling depressed.

Pippy: Believe it or not, it's hard work being so chipper... And I'm overworked.

Fireworks Festival 2025

Yesterday was August 1st, and I received my monthly bank statement from the postal division at town hall. I earned 83,200 bells in interest this month.

Truffles asked me to deliver a letter to Pippy, and I agreed to help out. Pippy wasn’t sure why Truffles would be sending a letter unless it was a fan letter. 😆

Pippy: From Truffles, huh... Maybe it's a fan letter, in a pond!

She said that the letter was “totally Truffles,” but she didn’t show it to me. Most letter recipients tend to show me the letter afterwards, but that’s okay. When I returned to Truffles, she rewarded me with 510 bells.

Tonight, the first fireworks festival of the year was held!

Hey, everybody! The Fireworks Show is today! KA-BOOM!

This game, and the later games as well, will have five fireworks festivals this year! So even if you miss it this weekend, you’ll have four more chances! Wild World’s fireworks are certainly the most pixelated, but they’re still pretty.

Green and purple fireworks explode in the sky during the fireworks festival in Animal Crossing: Wild World.

However, Drift wasn’t able to enjoy the show because he’s sick with a cold. I gave him some medicine, but I’m guessing his illness will likely carry over into next week.

When I spoke with Pippy, she apparently couldn’t hear me over the fireworks. So she told me I’d have to yell. 😆

Pippy: THE FIREWORKS ARE TOO NOISY! YOU'LL HAVE TO, LIKE, YELL!

Over by town hall, Tortimer finally popped his head out of his shell for the event. He gave me a Roman candle, and told me to scamper away.

Tortimer: A Roman candle! Now scamper on, you little beastie!

But I didn’t listen. I used that Roman candle to light a fire under his…shell. You’re on the hot seat now, Tortimer. Someday, I’ll be the mayor!

Jeff uses a Roman candle to try to burn Tortimer, all in good fun of course.

Filbert was enjoying the fireworks, but he really wanted some snacks.

Filbert: Do you have any snacks? I'm suddenly feeling kind of hungry, bucko.
If you have some nuts stashed away somewhere, this is the time to haul them out!

And Truffles was just shouting like a crazy person. So…just a normal day for her.

Truffles: Heh heh... I dunno why I'm shouting like a crazy person, but it feels good!

I wasn’t necessarily bug-hunting, but I did catch an atlas beetle and an oak silk moth that I spotted while playing.

Enjoy the fireworks, and I’ll be back with another entry next week!

Drift, Pippy to Battle?

On Wednesday, I listened in on a conversation between Pippy and Drift. Pippy asked if Drift has been watching her!

Pippy, to Drift: Hey! You've been watching me, haven't you?!

Drift admitted to it, because he wants to prepare for an epic battle against her.

Drift: Of course! How else do you expect me to prepare for my epic battle against you?

Pippy was confused by this, because she had no plans of being in a battle against him.

Pippy: Epic battle?! Uhhhh, haven't you noticed that I'm a cute girl, not a gladiator?

So, she thought he was a psycho. And she’s probably right. 😛

Pippy: What kind of a psycho are you, li'l hare?!

Drift tried to justify it by saying he imagined himself losing to Pippy. I don’t know, my villagers are just weird.

I thought I’d try a late-night bug hunt, like the ones I do in City Folk. I started before 10:30 p.m., so I’d be able to hunt for half an hour before the shop closed. But in that span, I wasn’t finding many rare bugs. I caught a rainbow stag, a goliath beetle, and an atlas beetle…but everything else was a 1,000-bell bug or less!

I only made 36k in 30 minutes, and I probably could’ve done better than that by just gathering fruit! So I won’t be posting a video of that. However, after the clock struck 11:00, I was suddenly seeing more (and better) bugs! So I decided that I would try again Thursday night, but at 11:00 instead of 10:30. The bad thing is that I’d be unable to sell my catches, so I could only fill up my pockets once. I recorded a gameplay session of that… Update: Here it is.

Today, Filbert told me he had been looking for a popeyed goldfish. I thought this was going to be a request (or a competition), but it was just dialogue. Apparently, he felt a bit dumb because he hasn’t been able to find one yet. Aww, poor guy.

Filbert: It's like a contest between me and the fish to see who's dumber, bucko.

I saw a big fish shadow in the river, and I fished out a giant snakehead. That’s a fish I don’t see very often! I think I best remember it as the last fish I caught in the GameCube game (when I first completed my fish collection, in 2007).

I caught a giant snakehead! ACK! It's got a huge head!

I actually found two items in the recycle bin at town hall today: a kiddie stereo and a Nintendo bench. Nice!

Curt has still been sick this week, so I gave him more medicine Wednesday, Thursday, and again today. Get well soon, Curt!
