In Animal Crossing: City Folk (and New Leaf as well), fireworks festivals are held on Sunday nights in August. Tonight was my first time this year attending the City Folk fireworks. Mayor Tortimer can be found at town hall, talking about how great the fireworks are. He also hands out roman candles and sparklers so that you can have your own fireworks in addition to the bigger ones up in the sky.
The music that plays during the event is festive and cheery, if a bit repetitive. And yet, it gave me an overwhelming feeling of sadness. This year is the first without online play for Wii games, so the happy music rings hollow. I’m reminded of the fun I had in fireworks festivals of the past. Sliding on the beach, waxing Tortimer’s shell with Megan, Egbert pecking at my Napoleonfish, and even Ben trying to burn my house down. I imagine it might be like walking around inside an amusement park that was closed down. All that remains are memories and ghosts.

I continued my walk around town. Ribbot was determined to find out where they’re shooting off the fireworks from. He figured they must be nearby because of how loud the fireworks are.
In what was one of my primary flower breeding grounds, I found a new black rose. But what once might have been a happy discovery now means very little. I no longer need additional flowers for my town, which is a good thing…and yet a bit sad at the same time.
When I spoke with Melba, she wondered aloud what was so fascinating about fireworks. They’re beautiful for a moment, and then they’re gone.
After completing my walk around town, I stopped on my southern bridge to enjoy the fireworks.
If you missed the fireworks tonight, there’s still one more show next Sunday (August 31st). See you next time.
Further south from the museum, I saw Lily across the river and I stopped to wave at her.
A bit later on, I ran into Friga. She saw something in my pockets that she wanted: a retro fridge! I can’t say I’m surprised; she’s cool like that.
She offered to trade her bubble shirt for it, and I agreed to the trade. I didn’t need the shirt of course, but I try to be nice every once in a while.
I had a Carmen in my GameCube town before, but that wasn’t the same character…that was
I guess she’s okay, but I don’t see her becoming one of my favorites.
When I ran into Ribbot, he asked me to make a quick delivery to Angus.
Angus was in his house nearby, so it was an easy delivery. The package contained a robo-sofa. Typical gift from Ribbot. When I returned to the robotic frog, he thanked me for making the delivery and gave me a retro fridge as a reward.
