Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog

Hello, and welcome to my Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Blog! I'm Jeff and here you can follow along with my adventures in the game. Unlike other Animal Crossing games, Happy Home Designer does not run in real-time. So some blog entries will cover multiple game days. If you'd like, you can start from the beginning or just jump right in! At the bottom of the page, you'll be able to find links to all of the entries. Or read my review.

Day 127

Rudy the cat was out on Main Street today, and he wanted a chess room. I've always enjoyed playing chess, although I haven't played it lately, so I agreed to help Rudy out.

I picked a snowy location up in the mountains, for no particular reason. But I can imagine it would be nice and cozy to see snow falling outside as he plays a game of chess indoors, where it's nice and warm.

I chose the "small fortress" house, just because it resembles the rook in chess. I went with the "sweets roof" because it looks like a chessboard, the elegant exterior just because I like how it looks, and a metal door. An ivy fence protects the property from Rudy's unruly neighbors that prefer checkers, and two gold knights stand watch. Potted black roses were unlocked for this project, so I placed a few of them out here, along with some cedar trees.

Inside, Rudy insisted on a knight, bishop, and king. But of course, I used the entire chess set (which I had already unlocked with Tank's house a while back). I also used the chessboard rug (naturally) and the backgammon wall, and I put black blinds on the windows. I wanted to place the chess pieces on the left and right sides of the board, so that Rudy could still walk down the center of the room from the door. However, there was no default 8x8 room, so the 8x6 shape of the room necessitated that I put the pieces on top and bottom. Rudy is going to have to climb over them to get in and out of his house. :P

I uploaded the room to the Happy Home Network. If you want to visit it, jump over to project code 0920-7709-496.

Day 128

The next day, I called up K.K. Slider. He is one of the Amiibo figures I got for Christmas. (Want to see my December haul?)

K.K.: Groovy, cat. This is why I want you in my band.
He didn't have a preferred vision for his home; he left it all up to me! I wasn't sure what kind of location to give him, but I ultimately decided on a beach home that has an odd cliff in the middle of it. I gave him a fairy-tale house with a white stone roof, white brick exterior, and a white zen door. I also used a lattice fence in front of the property. A few palm trees fit in nicely, and I also gave him a tree stump to sit on as he plays the guitar (much like how he performed in the GameCube version of Animal Crossing).

Sadly, no new furniture was unlocked for this project other than K.K.'s pic. I decided to make the inside of his house look somewhat like the Roost, where he performs in later Animal Crossing games. I used wood paneling on the walls, block flooring, and no windows.

I put in a piano, some amps, some counters, stools, chairs, and everything else I needed. I even used a tall brewstoid to represent Brewster. I really like how it came out.

If you don't yet own Happy Home Designer, you can buy a digital download code for it at Amazon.com.

Even though this blog doesn't have a regular schedule and this is the first update in a year, I do have a few more Amiibo figures that I want to use. So the next update shouldn't take as long to arrive as this one did. Thanks for stopping by, and feel free to leave a comment describing your latest creations, or even post your lastest project code for people to check out.
